A:  I don’t see why not. That’s what it’s for. As long as it has no power to it, no batteries, no power it should be fine.

A:  It might. It is unlikely to attack the plastic or rubber parts on the controller. If you have trouble with the controller, this would be a good place to start.

A:  I have used the contact cleaner on many things, including my favorite digital camera, on every switch button- it has always worked well. It sounds like the rubber roller, as wide as the cd, is slipping. It is usually the small gear on the side or the rubber roller starting to come loose on the rod that supports it, but there is a slim chance it is grease. I would only use contact cleaner as a last resort. You would do better to use You Tube video to take the unit out and look at that roller.

A:  Hi, thanks for your question. WD-40® Specialist® Electrical Contact Cleaner is great for cleaning electrical contacts on things such as printed circuit boards, controls, switches, precision instruments and electric panels. For the operating mechanism of a CD player, the efficacy would be dependent upon the troubleshooting specifics. We recommend powering off the device completely before making the attempt, and following manufacturer guidelines during the repair process.

A:  Its a greaser and removes oxide layers nicely. Rust seems a stretch, but I'd use it. Spray some on, use a wire brush if you can get to the contacts, if not just plug and unplug it a few times, spray it again. You get so much spray for the money you'l have it for a long time, for a number of things.

A:  Yes unless they are rusted beyond a normal connection. May take more than one spray. Use a wire brush where possible.

A:  Thank you for your question -- we appreciate the description of the issue and hope to answer adequately. WD-40® Specialist® Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray is an excellent product for cleaning the electrical contact points with a fast-drying formula that doesn't leave any residue, but for the surrounding areas of the housing that are caked with dirt and dust you may elect to use a product such as WD-40® Specialist® Industrial-Strength Cleaner & Degreaser. This water-based cleaner has a unique bio-solvent formula engineered to be powerful yet safe to use across sensitive surfaces. For the actual contact points of the electrical components though we would still recommend our electrical cleaner spray.
