A:  If I did my math correctly, approx. 42 1"X6"X8' boards would cover 170 sq ft. Recommend the purchase of a few extra boards to allow for cuts, etc.

              Answer This Question

A:  Hello DMB1, You do not have to do anything to the wood, BUT, any steps that you can take to increase the longevity/appearance of the wood is a bonus. We suggest that you go to the boxed-off Info & Guides section of the Weathershield product page and click on the link called Use and Care Manual. There you will find 2 full pages of everything you've ever wanted to know about how to treat this wood.

A:  Can be stained but not necessary.

A:  Mata, You can use this wood for that purpose. Make sure that you use treated-wood fasteners (the screws or nails, that is).

A:  Actually, the 1x6x8 Lumber from HomeDepot is twice as expensive as this one. I too thought that this treated lumber would be cheaper.

A:  While I'm sure you could use pressure treated wood for this purpose, I would instead use non-pressure treated wood. It would be somewhat cheaper, the wood boards you have a choice of would probably look nicer (less knots) and as long as the boards are stained or painted they should hold up to any type of weather..

A:  Yes, if you wet them down and let them stand overnight before drawing them slowly into the desired shape. It will also depend on the grain in the wood and any defects like knots particularly if they are in the center of the bend.

A:  Hello Tester, You are referring to soaking the wood in water, we assume. According to our treated wood specialist, you can do this without harm to the wood. Please send us a photo of you project once completed.

A:  The chemicals for pressure treated wood needs to cure for at lease 3 months(4 to 6 is best for 100% bonding) before applying paint or stain or very good chance of it flaking off within a year.

A:  You've got that right, Oldbarn; that wood will be wet and heavy coming right from the store. Give it a good drying, possibly a couple of months, depending on your climate and the environment that you store it in.

A:  I have used this kind of treated wood to build multiple pieces of outdoor furniture. When I get the wood I will usually let it sit in my garage for around 4-5 days. I will then construct my project (2-3 days) and let it sit for another day before I either stain or paint it. I've not had any issues with stain or paint coming off, with several pieces being outdoors for about 2+ years now. For what it's worth I do 2 coats of the stain or paint (latter with built-in primer).

A:  Wolverine, Our recommendation is that you contact your preferred Home Depot location's Pro Desk associate and explain that you'd like to order Model #253935 online with curb-side pick-up to follow. The associate will tell you whether this is possible or not. If it is not a possibility, you might request placing the order through another method. As for the pick-up, if you explain that you are in need of assistance with loading due to a health or physical challenge, it is likely that Home Depot would do its best to accommodate your needs. Best of luck to you.
