Q:How long do you need to let the treated lumber acclimate before using
by|Feb 22, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Sprinkle some water drops on it. If the wood soaks it up, it's ready for a coating. If the drops bead up, allow it to dry longer.

Q:Can I use this lumber to make a picnic table? Is it safe?

      Answer This Question

A:  I'd think long and hard before I ate off a new pressure-treated picnic table. Quite simply, the chemicals involved should not be breathed-in or consumed in any manner. You should wear gloves when handling them and a mask when cutting...

        A:  Yes. It is.

Q:Can I stain this wood right away without weathering? Is it Kiln dried?
          by|Nov 14, 2023
          1 Answer
          Answer This Question

A:  It is Kiln Dried BEFORE treatment, but not AFTER treatment, so it does need to be allowed to dry some before staining. Add a few droplets of water to the boards. If they soak it up, it's ready to accept a stain. If the water beads up, allow it to dry longer.

First of all, it is lumber. Normally I would rate Home Depot lumber as better than other lumber yards. The boards I got were straight and looked great. It wasn't until I started my project that I noticed that the width of the 2 X 6 varied slightly. When you are using lumber to make a square bow that is when you will notice things like that. It still looks great and I hid the slight differences.

              2 x 6 x 12' Pressure Treated Trip Hazards
After three weeks, the 2 X 6 X 12' pressure treated boards from Home Depot are so warped they present a obvious TRIP HAZARD and will have to be pried back up and replaced again. Also very displeased to look at my receipt and find that Home Depot does not honor the Veterans Discount on lumber --- pitiful!

One of your employees in the paint department stated that I should leave it out in the sun to dry for 5 - 7 days as it will be wet. It was quite wet and green when delivered. So, I did as he suggested. I broke the pallet of wood supplies apart and set the pieces on flat ground. Then I left for 5 days to go to my brother's funeral. When I got back 5 of the 2 x 6 x 8's were warped. Luckily, I was able to use them as I was cutting them down anyway to fit my project, (although I had to use one that was quite warped, but not as bad as the others. Just manhandled it into place). As for the 2 x 6 x 12's that were also in this order - 2 of them were so warped that they were unusable and will be going into a burn pile as soon as the burn bans are lifted. Very dissatisfied with the order. This will also be the last time I listen to an employee's suggestion.

Still Very Wet. Once dry they are great.
Used for exterior stairs near the pool. Once dried and cut they work great. I spent some time in the store selecting this boards I purchased. The majority of the boards were extremely wet from the pressure treatment to the point they were dripping. Most of the boards also were not in good shape. But I found 3 that would provide a good face on the stairs I was building. Because of wetness I had trouble cutting the boards before letting them sit in the sun and dry. Saw keep kicking back. Also these were 5.75 inch wide not 5.5. I notched the boards on the stairs to make them fit properly. I gave this a 4 star in spite of the wetness and size because I understand the shortage of lumber and the speed these were rushed to the store. They dried in the sun in 2 days. The stairs look great, very solid and yes I would purchase this again. HD did cut the boards for me although the cutter did not hold the lumber when pulling the saw and a few boards were cut crooked. I had to trim 3 boards.

                Absolute Junk
The pressure treated boards at my local HD are junk. I picked through the lot and found the best that i could, and the pics are some of the best i could find. I shouldnt have to contemplate putting the “bark cup” up because the other side looks so bad.

Nice boards. Some did have open knots, but most boards are very smooth and nice
