Q:I have drywall paper torn. But this is located in Bathroom. Can I use this in bathroom? Does it protect it from mold / mildew?

Answer This Question

A:  Use this first to seal/smooth down torn paper, then mud/texture as needed, then use another mild primer before painting. If you specifically want mold prevention there is one in the Kilz brand.

A:  Great question! Rust-Oleum Zinsser Gardz Primer can certainly be used in a bathroom over torn drywall paper. However, it does not protect against mold/mildew. For that, you would need to use the Rust-Oleum Zinsser Perma-White Interior Paint. https://www.homedepot.com/s/perma%2520white?NCNI-5 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

      Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help! We recommend removing any loose primer on the surface and at least using Rust-Oleum Zinsser Gardz Sealer on the damaged areas. Gradz can be used on the whole surface, but any loose or blistering primer does need to be removed first, as this is not a binding sealer. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

A:  Thanks for reaching out Debbie. Zinsser Gardz Problem Surface Sealer is designed for application to porous surfaces prior to painting, texturing or wallpapering. If the wallpaper is not sticking this usually indicates some type of contamination on the surface. Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help. Rust-Oleum Zinsser Gardz Problem Surface Sealer can be used to seal textured walls and popcorn ceilings. It penetrates soft or crumbly texture material and hardens it, creating a durable, water-resistant barrier that prevents primer or paint from softening texture material underneath. This product must be topcoated for full durability. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

A:  Happy to help, Gina! While Rust-Oleum Zinsser Gardz Problem Surface Sealer can be used on popcorn ceilings, it does require an opaque topcoat for full durability. This product is designed to help prep problem surfaces to make it easier to paint. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

A:  Gardz can be applied to the popcorn ceiling to seal, however, it has a gloss shine that is very reflective in light. I primed my whole house with this stuff. It is very watery and runs easily if overapplied, however it dries extremely fast. have always topcoated with a water based paint.

A:  Apply thin coat 1st, then the zinzer.

                      by|Apr 26, 2021

A:  Skimcoat then apply Gardz for drywall. Tile should be going on cement board. Remove the drywall and install cement board to the studs.

A:  You can technically apply the Rust-Oleum Zinsser Gardz first and skim coat after; however, if you apply your skim coat first and then apply the Gardz product, it'll seal it all in. That's going to be your best case here if you're able. We hope this helps! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1
