    This product is pink!
I was looking for a warm dark brown, picked this color based on the picture on the label, and it turned out pink! I’m going to have to get something else to put on top of this because it’s really awful.

Hi Jenn, thank you for your review. I’m sorry to hear that the color didn’t turn out as expected. Although the color of the wood can affect how the final color will turn out, it isn't typical for the Amaretto color to turn out pink. It is a great idea to sample colors first when possible. The stain-plus-poly product is easy to use, has very low-to-no odor, and exceptionally easy clean up. I was applying it over previously-finished oak cabinetry. I was a tad disappointed that even two coats changed the blonde finish to a honey oak tone. In defense of the product, it IS "semi-transparent. The color was darker when applied to a previously unfinished side of the cabinet. Since the desired color was much darker, I took a stab and applied two coats of Espresso over the two coats of Antique Walnut, and the result was much closer to the desired shade. The photo shows the original color (door) and final color (Antique Walnut + Espresso)(drawer front)

      Refinished hardwood floor
It was fairly straightforward to apply using a rag. I did 3 layers on the freshly sanded floor and love the final result. You have to be a bit careful to apply with the wood grain and immediately wipe away any streaks /brush strokes or they will stay through multiple layers.

        Sticky uneven mess
It’s great on smaller items. A table top? Forget it. I wish they had this color in actual stain and not the 2 in 1. Dries too quickly and looks terrible on our 8’x8’ table, botchy and uneven, and nothing I can do

Stain and poly in one Honey satin
Planned to use for a kitchen table refinish. After stripping and sanding/cleaning I attempted to stain with the Behr Honey Satin stain and polyurethane in one product. Temp about 82F, 34% humidity. The table had dried 24 hours since cleaning. Maybe the wood was super dry or something but I couldn't get 12" without having to re-apply, which led to numerous brush marks and imperfections. Any time the liquid touched the wood surface, that pattern was there to stay. Drip? Tough. Brush marks? They never go away. The material dried in seconds and could not be reworked. Just out of desperation I put on 3 coats trying to overcome my obstacles. Later coats were easier as they didn't suck right into the wood, but all I was really doing was making it darker. 3rd coat brush marks with the stain were very dark and looked like brush marks, not wood grain. The multitude of imperfect brush marks from the first coat were still there and couldn't be hidden. Guess I get to practice stripping and sanding again. In the trash it goes.

Hello Hopper, thank you for your review. I’m so sorry the brush marks were still coming through even after 3 coats. Since the brush marks are still visible and multiple coats have been applied, it may be best to remove the stain and reapply as you mentioned. I recommend sanding the stain off, cleaning the surface, conditioning the wood with our Water-Based Wood Conditioner, letting the surface dry, then reapplying the stain. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to reach out to our Customer Care team directly for further assistance. Our team is happy to help you! -Joni Behr

I stirred this for several minutes trying to convince myself that it didn't look purple like. I tested it on a small peice of pine wood that I was going to use for window trim, did the two coats like it suggested on the can, and it still looked purplish to me. Not at all like the pecan color I was expecting or what it looks like on the can.

The combination of an oak stain and a polyurethane coating in a water-based formula was the perfect solution to how I could conveniently and comfortably protect and finnish my newly re-caned kitchen chairs without having to remove them from the kitchen. Previous refinishing I had done utilizing two solvent-based formulas required I apply the stain and sealants outside the house because of their odor, potential, surrounding damage and the resultant, cleanup mess.

I used the classic oak satin semi-transparent water-based poly, a little different, i am ac-costume to the oil base, i feel like this product has a lot of potential, just because you can not see the bubbling on the poly as it is being apply does not mean it is not going to work, my worry was is it going to last? am i going to be able to clean it up? well the answer to all was YES, durable, easy to clean up. I will definitely recommend this product

The ease of use and application of this stain are good, I just was not happy with the final color of it compared to what the stock picture shows. It may have just been the wood I was using but the color was a little off for me. Other than that it was easy to use and being water based it was easy to clean up as well. With that being said since I only applied 1 coat I was able to sand it off pretty easy as well.

BEHR Water-Based Stain and Poly in 1 truly delivers a rich color and protection coating in one easy step. This Classic Oak satin formula provides a warm look and durable protection to any interior wood surface. This high performance stain and poly in one dries quick to a uniform finish, allowing you to shorten your project time and achieve beautiful results. I acquired this to stain some replacement Oak wood flooring and I found that that this stain and poly in one was a perfect match. This material is very easy to work with and brushes and pads clean up nicely with soap and water. It is easily removed from your hands with soap and water if you grab a wet can without gloves. I do recommend using gloves when working with this material.

Behr is just a quality brand you can trust. Whether you like modern and trendy looks or more traditional tried and true styles, you can't go wrong with Behr. They meet or exceed the quality of paints and stains double their price point. This oak color is rich with a full pigment. It matches my existing original Arts and Crafts style decor very well, and handles heavy use very well.

I wanted to update my 1990's orange toned wood work in the house. So I used the Behr mission oak. The color after a one coat application turned out similar to the Behr antique walnut. This went on easily after a gentle cleaning of existing finished wood with soap and water. I occasionally had to do a light hand sand in areas with a previously glossy finish to dull the surface. Easy clean up with water. It turned out beautiful!

This, BEHR 1 QT. #TIS-612 ESPRESSO SATIN SEMI-TRANSPARENT WATER-BASED INTERIOR STAIN AND POLY IN ONE, BROWN came out stunning on a stand that we use. It applied on great and for a deeper stain and luxurious appearance, I applied 2-coats. This stain looks closer to the swatch shown on the web site. I ended up purchasing more to finish the job. I probably wouldn’t have needed to but I did 2-coats. Behr has a great product and it shows!

I wanted to try this stain plus polyurethane in one for a while. I decided to try it on a simple wall planter shelf before I used it on my classic desk project. I'm kind of glad I did. First off, the advantages; the color is true to what I would consider American Chestnut, It appears as if the polyurethane offers a good amount of protection against dust, water damage, etc, and the cleanup is simple and easy with water. Also,I made a little boo-boo on the front of the planter and needed to use Plastic Wood. Behr Stain and Poly in one, masked it very nicely. The disadvantages? I found the finish very susceptible to streaking. I had to be very meticulous about brush stroke direction and making sure the finish was evenly distributed. Also, every coat makes the finished product darker. Typically a woodworking project will soak up 3 coats of poly in order to protect the wood from the elements. Three coats would make this finish very dark (The picture shown has 2 coats). I feel that it's easier to use a stain to get to the desired color, then protect with a polyurethane. While I'm sure this product has numerous uses, a custom furniture finish probably isn't one of them.

I really wanted to like like this stuff... unfortunately it wasn't meant to be. I have never been a fan of the "all in one" stain and polly and this just cemented that opinion. The finish went on easy enough with a foam brush but was very streaky and never leveled out as it dried. This definitely is not a penetrating stain as sanding with the recommended 400 grit between coats if you are not very careful it will take the finish completely off.. It definitely works better with oak and poplar, not good at all on maple, cherry or birch. I will say this, I personally do like the color and believe if it wasn't a polly blend it would be a good stain

Hi Dan2, thank you for your review, and I am sorry to hear you didn't get good results on some of the woods. To help the stain level out, make sure to use our Wood Conditioner before applying the stain. Keep in mind that this is a penetrating stain, as it can only go on to bare wood. The sanding is necessary to help give a smooth shiny finish from the poly. Also, I want to share that we have our Interior Stain and Polyurethane sold separately. Either way, to help with this, please reach out to us directly; we'd love the opportunity to make things right. -Edith Behr

The colour is Rich. Easy to apply. The picture shows one coat, and the other one has two coats. I sanded the wood down, to where it was smooth and grain still showing. I was happy with the results. A little darker than I thought. I think the colour would be good for accenting a room. The rich colour would go well with the warm setting. I use Cedarwood to check out the colour And smoothness

This stain and poly is easy to apply and to clean up. I put it on oak-stained kitchen cabinet doors that had been bleached by the sun. First, I sanded lightly with 400 grit sandpaper, just two strokes over each spot. I vacuumed off the dust, then wiped the cabinets down with an alcohol-dampened washcloth to remove dust and any possible grease or kitchen oils. The alcohol dried quickly, and I applied with a three-inch polyester brush the stain and poly. It went on easily, with the grain, and I smoothed over each section with long across-the-door brush strokes. In an hour the cabinet doors were dry and looked much better — an overall oak color, with no white sun-bleached spots. Cleaning the brush was easy — I painted it dry on newspaper, cleaned it off in warm water with liquid soap, rinsed it with clear water, and painted it dry again on newspaper. There is no odor to the stain and finish, none of that good-smelling-but-brain-cell-killing odor of oil-based stains and finishes. This stain and poly is really practical — just one application does two jobs, and the water cleanup is easy. This is an easy-to-use and functional stain and poly.

The " BEHR #TIS-312 ESPRESSO SATIN SEMI-TRANSPARENT WATER-BASED INTERIOR STAIN AND POLY IN ONE " is a really nice product. I have tried others and the issues was always seems to be spotting. When I used this on my stairs it actually took on the second coat with no sanding in between (used 3-coats). I made sure of course that the prep work was done correctly, clean and dust free, oil/dirt free. You really need to use the correct kind of brush and follow wood grain for the best effect. Clean up was a bit tricky . I had to clean a bit more than I thought with water base. It looks great and I hope it holds up.

The Behr Espresso B6212 stain is a really great stain. This stain has a quick drying time (about an hour), goes on nice and easy, and no super noticeable smell (mask for safety, you know just in case). Prep your surface, apply the stain, let dry and then add your clear coat. The directions for this suggest you do two coats to be complete, however I still can't decide myself if I like the one coat look, or the two coat look, but if you like to see a little more grain, give the one coat look a try.

I did not like the color of this particular product as to how it came out. Normally I love Honey colored stains but when I opened the can it looked way darker than a honey color; also even after mixing the can with wood paint stick for over 20 minutes the product did not mix well. Normally it takes only 2 to 3 minutes to stir a quart can, but in this case it still did not mix well. Then instead of applying this stain to the medicine cabinet I was intending to do, I applied it on a piece of birch & the color did not come out to look like honey - it came out more to look like walnut color. It went on like a mid to dark walnut & when I brushed it and wiped it off it was more like a light walnut color.

I have used stain for many years to make plaques for Boy Scouts. I have found that I enjoy doing these in different colors and levels of transparency. Something that I have been challenged with is how many coats. This stain, I had to still use more than one coat, however I only did two coats. This was a nice feeling. This particular stain has a poly coat built in. I really liked this feature because the stain still feels natural almost like it isn't there. It does repel water though.

One of the best parts of this Behr stain is the "two-in-one" with the stain and poly within this singular product. Love the time saving with having the two within this single product. Like the other Behr stains we tested out, this one dried just as quickly as the others. The product states the stain will dry in one hour, but it took much less time (closer to 20 minutes) for any of the Behr stains we used to dry. Again, love that this helps with saving time when working on a home project. The product itself states it is satin, but it has a bit of a sheen to the color, likely due to the addition of the poly. We didn't mind this finish, but definitely something to consider if you choose this Behr stain & poly in one.
