CalFlor BronzeStep Underlayment for Floating Laminate and Engineered Floors
The small space that I used this underlayment for floating laminate planks has had water issues in the past, so this waterproof product sounded good - just in case it happens again. Also, the surfaces had a lots of tiny imperfections - staples, splinters, gouges, gaps, etc. - a prefect application for CalFlor BronzeStep, which kept these imperfections from telegraphing through to the planks. I rolled the underlayment out, snapped the planks in place - done. The underlayment feels so flexible in hand that I was worried that floor would feel squishy, but it feels solid under the laminate planks.

Warm up the room and the underlayment will lie flat with no effort… no curling like other films
This was our first time using the CalFlor Underlayment with our Lifeproof Laminate flooring. Easy to handle. Very simple to cut and place. The Underlayment has a simple design with an adhesive strip making it simple to move and shift as needed when placing the floating laminate. Ours went directly on the wood subfloor and it helped smooth out rough areas of the plywood and imperfections, especially at the joint seams. It has a film on both sides to ensure no moisture can get through. The material is mold and mildew resistant. I would highly recommend the CalFlor BronzeStep Underlayment for any engineered wood or laminate floor project.

Works well for planks with no pad. And provides moisture barrier.
The bronzestep is easy to use. Just roll it out on the prepared floor. You will need to use the self-stick side to connect different layers together to maintain waterproofing. Also, it has a flap at the starter end which allows you to hold the pad in place. It has moistureproofing as well as padding . Only for planks that do not already have backing. Important: do not stick the barrier to the floor. It needs to float just like the floor. It is a bit tricky to roll out the barrier pad, and then lay planks on the pad, while working on top of the pad. They recommend you keep a roll of packing tape to use to patch any damage in the barrier to maintain waterproofing. Please read the instructions. You will need them. Overall, it worked well, and we had no issues with it. Do NOT overlap the padded foam. It will cause a height difference in the floor. So the best solution is to buy planks with the attached pad. But if you cannot, then use this BronzeStep to give you pad and moisture barrier in one.

Helps seal and cushion!
It is always a good idea to add an extra level of vapor barrier and insilation to snap together flooring. This is thin enough that it will not make the floor feel squishy. It comes with a flat piece of plastic on one end and a peel and stick trim on the opposite end. It would be a good idea to add your own shipping tape to the lap areas to make sure it stays sealed. As inexpensive as it is this is not an issue!

Perfect for textured bases
When I removed old mosaic tile to install vinyl plank flooring in my bathroom, the mortar underlayment was embossed with the tile’s mesh pattern. Although the new flooring has its own foam backer, I thought I should probably feather coat to smooth the surface so the backing wouldn’t catch on it and get torn during, or hinder expansion and contraction. But then I saw this and thought it would be easier. It’s barely 2mm thick, which is all that’s needed to smooth a rough-textured subfloor. It has the added bonus of cellophane coating both sides. The instructions are on the back of the roll label. To make watertight seams down the length of the roll, you butt the foam edges together and overlap the 2in. cello flap onto the pre-taped other edge. To join seams that had to be cut, you must have packing tape with good adhesion to tape those together. The only issue I had is that the roll edges wavered sometimes, so the roll edges couldn’t butt up against each evenly and flat in some areas of a seam. Because those seams are along the roll length and also this foam has slight thickness variations along the length, I recommend installing it so it runs 90 degrees to the floor planks. Laying this down is much easier and cleaner than feather coating! I bet it also provides a little extra sound dampening, not to mention slight pressure absorption.

Underlayment for Floating Floors
This “floating” underlayment for laminate flooring is suitable for going under glue-less flooring. It can be used on wood or concrete subfloors. I am using it in a finished basement because it has good moisture resistance with a laminated moisture barrier attached to both sides of the foam. This is a 100 square foot roll that is 4 feet wide. It comes with a moisture resistant flap with self-sealing tape for installation.

Easy to use
This underlayment is cut well and it lays nicely. I have used other underlayment that I had to fight with a little and this was easy to work with. The tape connection was the only thing that threw me a little because the whole tape cover and tape pulled up initially, but once I got the tape cover separated from the tape it pulled off nicely and connected to the other plastic end with no problem. Handles and feels fairly durable.

Easy to install, double moisture blocking underlayment
I got this underlayment for some floating laminate flooring. It’s very lightweight and the rule was 100 ft.² of coverage. You can use this underlayment over radiant heated floors and it has a double sided moisture barrier that protects your floor from moisture. There is a pre-taped flap on one side, make it quicker to install. You basically roll it out and peel the protective liner off the tape and press the flap to the previous rolls tape. Very easy to install. It’s pretty thin and simple to cut with a razor knife and will fill in minor gaps and cracks.

Does it's job!
Installing laminate flooring and picked up this Calflor underlayment. It is your basic underlayment which does it's job. Thin and lightweight but adds that little but of custioning and leveling to prevent squeaking between the laminate and subfloor. The adhesive that is along the side that allows the sheets to be laid next to each other is thin and not the best adhesive so I give the underlayment a 4 out of 5. This underlayment is easy to use and perfect for those high n dry spaces such as a bedroom.

Double Moisture Barrier
I have a slab built house near the gulf coast of Florida. Last years massive hurricane, Ian, did a number on much of the laminate flooring through out the home. Water damaged four of 7 rooms. Because of the ease of installation and low cost of laminate products, I am replacing with like products. This underlayment provides 2mm of foam padding which is enough to keep the floors quiet. As important as that is, the deciding factor for me was the top and bottom moisture barrier. It installs easily and there is a pre-taped edge for maintaining that protection at the seams... although I will double tape those points as well... My laminate flooring has been in the house over ten years and survived many lesser storms.

Poorly made
Accepting that it is low end product comes with the price. However, the manufacturing process ruins the last four to five feet of the product. Similar products offered by other manufactures have figured out how to roll the product up without ruining it. Also, the “tape” strip is of little to no value. Buy something of higher quality.

This CalFlor brand BronzeStep 2-in-1 polyethylene foam underlayment for floating floors is very light weight, the 100 sq ft weighs only 1.4 lb, and ti's made in China. This 1 mm thick underlayment can be used on cement floors as it has a vapor barrier as well as a thin padding which helps with sound transmission if used on a 2nd story floor. It includes a pre-taped flap which helps speed up installation. It was not delivered in a box and the foam was in a flattened roll about 6" round x just under 48". I wish the manufacturers of the these underpayments would ship 150 or 200 sq feet at a time as even a 10x10 bedroom plus a double closet will need more that 100 sq feet to complete. Be careful when putting it down that you don't tear or rip it, also be carful when taking the label off, it's glued on and if taken off quickly will ruin the first 2' of underlayment. The instructions on the back say to run the product 3" up the wall and to add 5% for loss due to cutting. You'll also loose 3" on every overlap, so take those into consideration when figuring the amount you'll need. End seams (butts) will need to be taped, so don't forget to buy underlayment tape. The instructions say you can use packing or duct tape, but to me buying the correct underlayment tape make more sense. This product provides both padding and a moisture barrier in one. Installing my first laminate floor, I evaluated several options. I selected CalFlor's Bronzestep because it offers the moisture barrier required for my concrete slab installation along with the padding. The product has the moisture barrier layered between two layers of padding. Great design and you only have to buy one product to get both benefits.

I just received the BronzeStep 100 sq. ft. 3 ft. 4 in. x 30 ft. x 0.078 in. 2-in-1 Underlayment for Floating Laminate and Engineered Floors, it is just a little difficult to work with, you have to be very careful walking on it. It was laid over a concrete floor and wood laminate flooring put down. Worked ok, hopefully will control the moisture for me. The finished floor seems fine with this under it and is quiet to walk on. If you are on a tight budget then this will work with extra tape, else upgrade to something better.

Intuitive in application. A bit delicate and easily tore a couple times, once when walking across and once when I dropped a box of flooring. Definitely evens out flooring and feels cushy underneath the feet. Price very reasonable for quality. Would recommend and use again.

Glue strip detached form the padding in MULTIPLE locations requiring additional taping to secure together during installation, It was also difficult to get it to lay flat and stick together properly due to an additional plastic flap/strip interfering with the glue strip. Would NOT purchase again.

The Bronze step 2-in-1 Underlayment is excellent for floating floors! The Polyethlene foam and double sided wrapping creates a moisture resistant barrier which protects the subfloor. It provides cushioning and dampens noise. It is easy to cut and lay down, with an adhesive strip along the overlap. It can be applied under floating wood floors, laminate, cork and bamboo as well as over floors with radiant heat. It is also lightweight so it is easy to work with.

This underlayment is absolutely perfect for floating floors. I used this in my kitchen for a vinyl floating floor and it is so quiet and the installation was easy. I would definitely purchase this product again. This was easy to unroll and measure out, didn't have to fight to keep the underlayment flat when measuring and cutting for the corners and door ways. Will buy again to use in another room. Extremely light weight as well.
