Closet Maid 3 inch corner support brackets do work. Their metal construction provides better support than plastic alternatives. They work better if you use another metal plate, hex nut, and machine screw or bolt to hold them in place; otherwise, they fall out of place if you bump a wire shelf up enough. My preference is to use Closet Maid universal joiner plates with a length of 3/4" EMT (electrical metallic tubing) to provide additional vertical support when needed.

It takes a bit of manipulation to get the bracket in place but it is an ideal tool to keep the adjacent shelves even.

Strengthened the corners of my pantry shelving. They are a little expensive for a little metal bar but they help.

My pantry had shelves on two walls and these brackets allowed for them to link to each other and provide support between them... to make them work as one shelf. These were a small price to pay for even greater stability.
