At the end of this review is a link to an overview/demonstration video I made for the lights. The lights are slim so they don't require you to move the light location based on a joist or other obstruction (for the most part, details later in review). The lights also allow you to select from five common colors so you are not stuck with a specific color light and can change based on your taste (Warm White, Soft White, Neutral White, Bright White, Daylight). They are also relatively easy to install if you are familiar with electrical. The lights are also rated for wet areas like bathrooms, are dimmable and are IC-rated so they can be installed around insulation. Each light produces 540 lumen and of note, they do not have a baffle, they are just flat. I installed these lights in my basement ceiling tiles. They brighten the basement up nicely and made installation much easier since I did not have to worry about avoiding joists. The lights are also lightweight so they dont weigh down the ceiling tile. These lights and their clamps can be installed into any material (drywall, wood, etc.) that is up to 1" thick. The template for the hole these lights go into is 4.25" but I find you can get away with a pinch (~1/8") less or more. I used an exacto knife to cut the ceiling tile but a hole saw or jab saw works good on drywall. The light goes only .04" into the ceiling so it takes up little room. The clips can be easily positioned to clear any obstructions. They wire with standard 14-2 wire and the have these convenient little metal junction boxes with quick-connects that make wiring easy and saves a lot of time. Each junction box has two 1/2 knock-outs and the quick-connects can support two wires, so you can run these lights in a chain, but not more than two wires going into the box. You do not need much wire going into the box, 2" to 3" is fine. The junction boxes can be screwed in the ceiling cavity which makes no sense so I just put mine loose in there so they can be accessed easier if need be. The wire from the light screws onto the wire from the junction box and you are all set, just set your light color and clip the light in. Of note, the length of the wire from the light to the junction box is about 26" which gives you plenty of slack. As far as dimmers, there are several that are compatible. The list can be accessed on this product page un Product Overview and just click the link on the right to the "Specification" document that lists them. I used Lutron TGCL-153PH-WH. Some considerations when installing these: 1) While the light will fit in any hole you make, the junction box will not. In one hole I had a joist and a pipe and was barely able to fit the junction box in. In three other holes, I had furring strips crossing the joist and had to cut the furring strips out. 2) The kit does NOT come with wire clamps for the junction boxes so be sure to pick up some 3/8" wire clamps in addition to wire and all. I used the plastic clamps. 3) Figure the color you want the lights to be as early as possible as removing and installing them will create dust and mess from the hole you cut. 4) If you install these in blown insulation, put a piece of parchment paper or tin foil over the light so if you have to remove it, the insulation wont come pouring out of the hole. 5) If you do not know what you are doing, hire an electrician. These lights look GREAT and installation was fairly easy. Running the electrical wire was the hardest part. The only negative I have is the instructions. It tells you to thread the wire and lock it in THEN it mentions to use a cable clamp. You have to install a cable clamp to the junction box BEFORE you thread the cable and lock it in place. I did not have the cable clamps and did not know that I couldn't add it after the fact until I had installed everything. That's a very serious oversight on Home Depots part. It should have mentioned installing the cable locks first and told you what size is used.

It's not to often I buy a product these days that I'm inclined to write about. Its got to be either really good or really bad. Commercial electric got this product absolutely right. Its easy to install and looks great. In the pictures I tried to capture how bright these lights were. I was thinking about adding a third but the lighting is almost perfect as is and they are dimmable. Now all that's left is to see how long they last. For the install I used the brackets to span the joists and installation took about 20 minutes total.

Only after getting home and opening the box did I realize I was required to have a cable clamp. The box had three knock-outs...nothing else. Luckily I had one laying around, otherwise this thing would have gone back to the store. Fairly easy to install. If you are installing under a joist, make sure you have about 1 1/2" of lateral clearance from the joist so the spring mechanism fits. It sticks up about an inch higher than the light body. The spring that holds the light to the ceiling is pretty strong. It will damage sheetrock if you just pull the light down without assisting the spring. Excellent light level- especially for a 4" light. The attached pic shows the light half-way in the ceiling (still have to paint). The 3000k color is close enough to my other 2700k lights that I don't really notice. Side by side might be a different story.

After setting several light boxes above the ceiling in our basement, I discovered this lighting option. It’s so much easier to set this system in. I also love the option of changing the color spectrum of the light in any room. From bright to dim. Just cut a round hole in the drywall after wiring and setting the little box. Beautiful system.

These were simple to install and rather bright. Was hard to decide how to place them, but after that, with the recommended hole saw we installed 10 in an afternoon.

Replaced a current recessed light with this light. Installation as easy and it looks great.

Easier install than traditional light fixtures! Easily clamps to drywall or any edge where it is installed. I don't know about its longetivity because I just installed them a month ago!

Love the option that you can change the color.

Looks great, slim profile and love that you can adjust the color. The lighting is great.
