[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This thing leaked oil from everywhere I bought it for my wife and now I have to deal with repairs after first use.

    Great saw
Very handy to use. I also use a gas powered saw for the really big stuff, and this battery powered Dewalt is a great edition to complete the work flow. If you are not a pro, cutting just sometimes, this saw is all you will ever need.

      20v DeWalt chainsaw leak
Purchased this saw after reading all the reviews. One simple O ring and it hasn't leaked since. Large pine tree branches cut to short lengths and wife learning to carve tree trunks. Simple fix that should have come from DeWalt.

Easy to use, even one handed. Also more power than I expected. Obviously quieter than gas models. I’d say be pleasantly surprised unless you expect the same performance as gas for the size.

        Money waisted
It is really not a useful tool. A handsaw cuts faster. Don’t waist your money. I have many DEWALT XR and all are delivering the work but not this chainsaw. If you need a chainsaw buy a real one🙂

Great saw for small/medium sized jobs
Needed to cut a 30’ tree down to make room for a new sidewalk. Already had the 20v batteries so went with this. It made short work of taking down the tree and slicing up the firewood and branches for composting. Yes it drips oil, that’s not a fault of the saw. As another reviewer mentioned store it on its side with the oil fill cap facing up and it’s all good. Pull back the hand guard all the way, a few inches to activate it. Don’t forget to buy some oil, it’s not included.

            Little beast!
This chain saw surprised me. She cut extremely well. Battery life is great. Cut up 3 trees with 2 batteries. The chain adjustment is so easy. Light weight.

I DON'T USUALLY DO REVIEWS, BUT HAD TO AFTER USING THIS SAW. BOUGHT THIS SAW AFTER STORM BLEW DOWN OUR WALNUT TREE. WAS IMPRESSED BY OTHER REVIEWS. IT CUT THRU BRANCHES AND TREE TRUNK WITH NO PROBLEM. BATTERY HOLDS UP GOOD. HAVE HAD NO PROBLEM WITH OIL LEAK AS IN OTHER REVIEWS. LEAVING SAW ON SIDE WHEN STORED. IMPRESSEVIE CUTTING THRU 6 TO 8 IN TREE. SEE PHOTOS

                Great deal, great tool.
Love the saw. Works great for farm cleanup, cut down about 40 willow trees and a bunch more caragana already.

Great chainsaw, easy to use, very safe
Great chainsaw for diverse levels of experience. My husband and I had never used to chainsaw before and purchased this one after seeing a review on YouTube that said it was quite versatile and light weight . We both have really enjoyed cutting down two 70 foot spruce trees with it.

                  Good little saw
Picked this up to cut down a decent sized tree in front yard. See photos. Saw did just fine. Already have a bunch of dewalt tools but picked this kit up because it’s only a bit more then just the tool itself. Definitely need the 5.0 ah batteries. 4 works good too. tree I cut down was probably 14 inches diameter and I still managed to get it done. The bar and chain oil cap will leak if stored upright. So I tip the saw on its side (cap facing up) to store it. Good for what it is

Maybe the easiest 5 star review ever
So after crying about the death of the 18V Dewalt line a bunch of years ago, I decided to 'live in the now' and go all in with the 20V line. Glad I did. Of the dozens of 20V Dewalt tools I have purchased (never gotten a freebie or dime from Dewalt or anyone else) the little chainsaw might be my favorite!! I have owned it for about 18 months and am blown away by how handy this thing is. I bought it for the acreage mainly to limb fell trees instead of using the big gas one that can be a killer on the forearms. Not only does it accomplish that with ease, I tried it on larger dead fall... no problems... tried it with smaller live trees (3 - 4")... easy peazy... went up to approximately 9" standing poplars... just as easy as my gas saw. All this in a little 20V power tool. I was pleasantly surprised by the power of this tool. There are 2 of Dewalt line that I believe everyone should own if you own property and any sort of vehicle. This chainsaw and the tire inflator/compressor. As with the compressor, I highly recommend at least a 5 mah battery. I have many 2 mah batteries that came with drills and circular/jig saws, and have used them and they work fine, just not for as long as you probably want to use them for. Now that I've talked it up so much, and for the price... to me this is a no brainer if you require any sort of basic landscaping tool. I will make a couple notes that you should be aware of though (maybe Dewalt reads these and will update the next model...): First, the chainsaw oil reservoir is really small (I understand that this unit is not for a lumberjack but needs oil after almost every cut). This leads to the amount of chainsaw oil it bleeds, the only chainsaw that I've ever used that goes through this much oil... and the reservoir does not seal very well. A better cap, or maybe O-ring could fix that. Second concern is replacement chains... I'm at a point where I will be neeed to replace the chain soon and according to some posts, a 12" Oregon chain does not work and other posts say yes. Have been unable to get absolute confirmation on this. To summarize, this is a great chainsaw!! Small, light, reliable, hits way above it's weight class. Maybe the easiest 5 star review.

                      Leaks Chain Oil
Just bought this unit and it does work well. I should of read more of the reviews about having to drain the chain oil out when not in use. This is a pain in the rear-end and also messy. This is a very poor design, the only reason I don't return it is I don't use it a frequently as a lot of the others

                        I love Dewalt, but…
To start, I just want to say that I am a huge fan of Dewalt and their products, but this chainsaw is horrible. The main reason is, IT LEAKS OIL EVERYWHERE! Sadly, I know it’s not a fluke, because THIS IS MY SECOND ONE!.. First one fried after like 10 uses, because oil got into the electrical, thankfully, Dewalt replaced it.. I have been babying this thing, emptying the oil out, cleaning it regularly, yet oil is still seeping from every crevice.

                              Awesome saw
I’ve had this saw for a little over a year and use it all the time to cut down hardwood for fire wood. I put a 16 inch power care blade on it and there’s no issues with power. Biggest tree I’ve cut with it was probably an 18 in red maple that was leaning over my house. I have a bunch of dewalt batteries but I never seem to run out of power. I’ve converted a couple buddies letting them borrow this to cut trees who said it would never match gas. Honestly it’s better than gas.

                                Great chainsaw for light-medium jobs!!
Picked this unit up to replace an older 14" gas powered chainsaw. Overall, absolutely love this saw to replace my gas chainsaw. There are LOTS of positives with this tool, BUT a few things to consider to make sure you maximize your satisfaction! :) PROS -Super simple design! Chain adjustment is turn of a knob, chain replacement one bolt. Seriously easy. No spark plugs, choke, or pull cords. Thank goodness! Squeeze the trigger and off you go! -Save $$$. Even with the cost of batteries, you'll easily save by not having to buy gas over the life of the chainsaw. -can handle some high volume! I was able to cut through a 9" thick tree quite easily. I expect it could handle even thicker... At this thick, it is not a fast cut, but consistent! I found "walking" the saw back and forth was the most effective method for very thick cuts! -In about 120 cuts, no kickbacks! From a safety perspective, very nice to see. -easy to handle, very light weight. Did not feel tired at all from handling the chainsaw. Couple things to consider: 1. it sucks a lot of juice!! You will need at least 2-3 5Ah batteries (or a bunch of 1.5 Ah) to keep work flowing, especially outside in colder weather. I used a generic chinese 5Ah and DeWalt 1.5Ah battery in a garage and was able to cut all the wood in the pictures in 20-30 mins. I had to switch between the 5 and 1.5 Ah battery twice. 2. Oil O-ring Lots of reviews talk about the missing o-ring for the oil cap. Yes, mine leaked a little oil too if tilted toward the oil cap side, but I threw in an R-13 o-ring and no leak. Easy peasy. 3. Oil consumption I made about 110-120 cuts and needed to refill the oil reservoir. Most chain saws use a lot of oil, especially with self-oiling the chain. Just keep a close eye on the oil level and always have chain oil close by. 4. Still noisy I was surprised by how loud the chainsaw still was. Certainly MUCH quieter than a gas saw but may want to wear hearing protection depending how long you are using the saw.

                                  The little Dewalt Chainsaw
The chainsaw works well. The 5 amp battery that came with it was not adequate for the demand . It would have been nice if the oil came with it so I didn’t need to make another trip to the store . I recommend a bigger battery.

Worked great clearing downed trees from hurricane Ian. I am completely impressed with this little chain saw. Bought it on a quick whim 2 days before the storm hit, and it arrived the day before. We ended up being in the path of the storm and the devastation is unimaginable. So to be able to give such a high review means this is an amazing must have tool.

                                  What the Dr. ordered (2)
Not sure if we're allowed to post a second review of an item favorably reviewed after first using. I wanted to comment regarding a complaint I read about this saw, voiced by earlier unhappy sounding buyers; specifically, that the saw leaks oil if you leave it sitting? Their complaints struck a chord. I own a gas-powered chainsaw that has this problem and its oil leakage has many times created horrible messes. So before buying this DeWalt, I definitely took note of the negative reviews people posted about it leaking oil. Because who wants that? Despite the operational conveniences I imagined it delivering, I hesitated buying it because I did not want to saddle myself with TWO chainsaws that leak oil and create nasty messes. My purchase of this DeWalt 20 was a gamble. What I finally reasoned out, after experiencing the same problem of chain bar oil leakage with the DeWalt, is that chainsaws must be designed with the assumption that most users will perform vertical downward cuts; hence ALL commercial chainsaws are designed to exploit gravity as a means of delivering lubricating oil from the reservoir down onto the bar chain. Vertical cutting strokes by users, in other words, is the assumption made by chainsaw designers, therefore chain bar oilers are built accordingly? At any rate, there is a way to avoid annoying oil leakage: simply store your saw tipped over until it lays onto its right side. To where the bar chain oil reservoir's fill cap is facing UP? I tested this method and it works to prevent chain bar oil loss. Maybe if I leave it on its right side for a longer time I'll see leakage. But there's been nothing so far, not a drop that I can see. This technique would likely work on my gas-powered chainsaw, too. However, I'm now convinced of the effectiveness of this battery-powered DeWalt to satisfy my property's needs and I won't be going back to a gas-powered chainsaw again. No offense. An effective battery-powered light duty chainsaw lubricated by a small amount of heavy oil and "refueled" by area wind farm electric. On a place small as mine? How cool is that?

                                    What the Dr. ordered
I bought this saw four days ago and I'm powering it with the battery that powers my DeWalt string trimmer. I used the saw today cutting down tall Osage Orange hedge tree volunteers, some over 10 feet tall. (Then after felling the trees, treating each stump with Tordon.) This work was in a grazing pasture. I am satisfied with the saw's cutting ability; hedge wood is dense stuff. This job entailed lots of walking between trees, which if I had been using a gas chainsaw the job would have required shutting down/starting up many times. Not having to yank on a pull cord to "start the engine" without fighting to stabilize the machine -- being liberated from that clumsy exercise felt weird at first but I got used to it real fast. The saw easily cut down one tree whose stump diameter was in the 6-to-7 inch range. All but two cuts made today were with the chainsaw held on its right side with the guide bar held horizontal and down very close to the ground. I followed the advice of earlier comment posters (Thank you!) who advise letting the saw cut at its own easy pace. Don't try to horse it through the wood, so's not to bog it down? Everything went great. I have more trees yet to remove, and this chainsaw will make the job much easier (and I would contend safer). This is a very useful saw.

Not as powerful as a gas powered BUT it has plenty of power to trim trees and cut firewood!

Would highly recommend for anyone doing medium to heavy duty ‘around the house’ landscape trimming or wood cutting. 4 stars because electric units do not come close to the ease of cutting provided by gas powered chainsaws.
