quality of build stood out to me, Dewalt has always been about that! My corded heatgun has same btu output as this DCE530 with NO extension needed! uses include shrinkwrap of but joint connectors and my gloves when left in vehicle overnight! will return to HomeDepot to purchase more battery's though. has a trigger lock to free up hands for holding other things while tool sits upright on battery base.

Not feeling too hot about this purchase?
Doesn’t produce the heat I thought it would; not sure what the product could be used for?

Do not buy
Bought these because I had accidentally left my spare battery DC9096 and charger behind and would not be back for 3 months to where they were. So I purchased these, big mistake!!! They do not hold a charge for very long. I can fully charge one, set it on the shelf for 2 days go to use it and it’s dead!!! Will not even power my flashlight for an hour!!! Wish I could return but did not keep receipt!!!!

I was excited to get my first ever cordless heat gun. I've had corded heat guns before and used them for a variety of tasks, but mainly for stripping paint. In a minute I'll tell you why this isn't the best single-use reason to get this heat gun, bit at the same time tell you why you should get it.
Basically the only time I use heat guns is to strip paint. It is time-consuming and more heat is better. This cordless heat gun is neither incredibly powerful nor has much adjustment, just high and low settings, and comes with just a couple attachments. It does strip paint, don't get me wrong, but it does it slowly and the portability of cordless is negated by the fact that I always stay in one place to do so.
HOWEVER, that being said, heat guns have a variety of uses and because of the desert climate I live in the uses I use mine for are very few. Anything to do with ice, thawing, freeing, deicing and similar tasks which constitute large portions of the lives of others simply do no apply to my life, but it certainly applies to others. If you need a portable heat gun for heating thing sup safely, automotive work, deicing your locks, or whatever is recommended for this product (check the manual) and need portability this gun works great. I chose it because as a bare tool I already have the 20V Dewalt batteries and it fit perfectly.

A really nice cordless heat gun from DeWalt to add to my tool container. It's cordless with a small compact design. It can be used in tight places and has many applications including heat shrinking wire tubing to putty and paint projects and and decal removal. The max temperature out put is up to 990 degrees Fahrenheit and has two temperature settings, hi and low. It also features a lock on and off for hands free use. The standard nozzle allows you to use attachments from corded units and many brands to fit this gun.
The gun also includes a flat nozzle and hook nozzle attachment .The run time is about 42 minutes. My first project will be removing small areas of peeling paint from a couple door jams and casings then I can light sand and paint,. Looking forward to using my new heat gun for this project.

The DeWALT 20v Max Cordless Heat Gun Part# DCE530 (Bare Tool) is an extremely handy tool. For starters, it is very very light weight. What makes this handy is the ease of taking this tool to the vehicle or project you are working on. Without being tethered with a cord, getting into tight areas such as under a dash for example almost makes the work pleasurable. This heat gun has a trigger safety, low & high settings and most importantly, a lock-on switch. The bare tool includes the heat gun, owners manual and two heat deflectors. Two thumbs up!

First off, this product does not come with a battery, so please be sure that you either purchase one or have one from other DeWalt products. I needed to replace our current heat gun that is wired. This product definitely does everything that my old one has, but cordless! "Borrowing" my husbands battery from his cordless drill, the heat output is very impressive for a battery operated unit. I use it for crafts and to get those pesky stickers off of things I purchased, husband said that it will definitely be easier to insulate the windows in the winter. Please remember to let it cool down before storing, the tip is hot!

I'm a homeowner / DIY'er so this review of the DeWalt DCE530B heat gun comes from that perspective, not from a skilled trades viewpoint.
This is the 'bare tool' version - no battery, no charger, no case or bag. The tool does come with two nozzles (flat and hook) and accepts nozzles from other guns that have standard size nozzles. It's nice when manufacturers don't overdo the "proprietary" features on accessories.
In use the gun is very quiet, with not much noise from the fan - and not much force, either. The gun has to be fairly close to the work (YMMV, read the instructions that comes with the tool!). I don't have a thermometer that goes that high to confirm the temperature, but DeWalt claims a top output temperature of up to 990 degrees Fahrenheit. I don't think it gets as warm as my old corded heat gun did, and it definitely doesn't have the same fan power as my old corded unit.
That being said, the DeWalt does seem to be getting the jobs done for me. I've seen a couple of reports that the gun doesn't get hot enough to really remove paint, but that's not been the case in my testing. However, I've not tried the gun yet on a major project (like taking paint off the woodwork trim in an entire room of the house!) so YMMV. Getting paint off scrap lumber in order to reuse it in my basement shop hasn't been a problem - stain is something completely different and may require a little chemical help, not a heat gun.
No battery is included but once I started using the heat gun with one of the 20v batteries I have on hand I was hooked. It's lightweight, easy to maneuver, and not having to trail a cord around is priceless. (See the photo of gun with battery).
There's a safety trigger - you need to push up on the trigger release and then back on the trigger itself to get things started. Once going you can lock the gun in the 'run' position by sliding over a lock button in the handle in back of the trigger (see photo where I'm pointing to the lock button below).
The gun offers two levels of heat output, High and Low. Either level can be chosen by sliding the switch on the top of the heat gun.
As noted, I don't have a major project on hand that requires paint removal, so I can't really comment on battery life in a 'real use' environment. I have a number of DeWalt batteries on my tool shelf so it’s not an issue for me, but I would recommend that anyone purchasing this heat gun have at least one spare battery on hand. It's aggravating when a job is held up because you're waiting on the battery to charge.
I’ve gotta admit, I'm really pleased with the overall size/weight, fit and finish of the tool. For me (YMMV) it works as advertised and I'm giving my older corded unit away. The DeWalt hasn't been here very long but it has me spoiled already.
HTH
Regards,
Jim
I bought this in april it is now august. Ive used the battery maybe 5 times and now it wont hold a charge for longer than 5 minutes.

Gets the job done, fast charging, good buy for the whole set (tool/battery/charger) with the sale price. It's a small saw but cuts most wood sheet thicknesses. I've cut down up to 2inch panels. Only had it for 2-3 weeks and already did over 30 cuts but still works fine. Just didn't like that the sawdust blows everywhere, can cover up where I am trying to cut.

Only complaint I have is the battery life. I'm sure if you have or use the bigger batteries it's less of an issue. I'm using the 2 Amp hour batteries because that's what I have. Lasts about 15 minutes on a full charge.

store is very unprofessional
I came into the store to pick up my tool. They told me that my tool was picked up five minutes before I walked in. The lady help me with the locker box because I never used it before looked in there and it was gone. They told me that they was gonna look at the cameras to see who stole the item spent three days, no one said nothing to me about anything. I don’t understand what’s going on and nobody’s really explaining it. Take two minutes to look at a camera to see who stole my tool associate gave my tool away and just not admitting that they messed up the store is very unprofessional and ghetto, it is $180 and now I got to order another tool out-of-pocket because these people don’t want to do the job
