They got this generation right
I'll keep this short, I owned the gen I DCMW220 and both the gen II FWD DCMWSP244 and RWD DCMWSP255 models. This gen III model has fixed all the flaws of the previous generations. Power is up, runtime is up, lighter, smaller, more maneuverable. The one caveat is that the self propelled feature is now an electric motor, so you cannot feather the speed as much as you could with the old belt/pulley design of the gen II. Still have a variable speed dial, but not a variable speed trigger so to speak.

Absolute garbage
For the first two years, you may be able to get about 30 minutes of mowing in. So if you have a very small yard, or just need to do a little touchup, it will probably get you by. But after that, the batteries won’t keep the mower running for more than a few seconds. And replacement batteries cost almost as much as the mower. Run away!

Transitioning from a gasoline to an electric lawnmower
My grass has been cut by a gasoline lawn tractor for the last 23 years. I’m a bit skeptical of an electric lawnmower but was surprised by Dewalt’s 20V self-propelled mower. Assembly of the Dewalt lawnmower was very easy since it’s 99% assembled at the factory. The assembly and operating instructions could use some help since most instructions and assembly diagrams were on different pages making it hard to follow the instructions. The first thing I noticed was the quiet operation which allows me to cut the lawn at 7:00 am versus 9:30 am on Saturday mornings. There are no oil or fuel filters, spark plugs and pneumatic tires to keep inflated during the mowing season. The controls are ergonomically designed to aid with the operation of the lawnmower. The two batteries are sufficient to cut a large lawn without having to worry about “range anxiety”. The self-propelled feature makes cutting the grass effortless and the state of charge indicator LED status warns when the batteries charge are running low. Overall the Dewalt 20V Max self-propelled lawnmower is a great buy if you are transitioning from a gasoline to an electric lawnmower.

A good mower with some drawbacks
I like most of the features of this mower however it has a few cons as well. First The mower cuts well and has plenty of power to go through tall grass. The self propelled feature is really nice. The variable speed control lets you move at whatever pace suits you. Also you can use the self propelled feature without the mower motor running. That is really great. Another good thing is that if you have other 20v DeWalt tools the batteries are interchangeable. Some of the cons about this mower. I don't like the fact that you need two batteries and two chargers. The batteries take a long time to charge with the included chargers. The mechanism to unfold the handle is kind of awkward. You have to squeeze the lock button which allows the handle to extend slightly. Then you can unfold. However the handle doesn't extend correctly all the time and therefore the handle won't unfold. The battery gauge on the mower doesn't show how much battery is left it shows how much juice is being drawn. So while it shows it being close to full that's not really accurate. When the motor works harder in taller grass and battery gauge goes down. It goes back up when the motor isn't working as hard. All in all if you are looking for an alternative to a gas mower this is a good choice.

A Quiet Breeze Through Thick Grass: My Experience with the DEWALT DCMWSP256U2 Battery Mower
I have been considering a battery-powered mower for a while now, and I am very pleased with it after only two uses. Aside from charging the batteries, the mower worked perfectly out of the box. The self-propelled feature made cutting the grass on the hill in my backyard a breeze. The speed setting when walking on a flat surface was impressive, even on setting number 2. The mower is also significantly quieter than other gas-powered mowers I've owned. Stopping and starting the mower was very easy to do, and the dual blade worked well on my taller, thicker grass. Overall, I'm very happy with the DeWalt Battery Powered Mower and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful, quiet, and easy-to-use battery-powered mower.

    Very impressive mower
This was my 1st battery operated mower I’ve ever used so I wasn’t sure what to expect. After using it for the first mow I was very impressed. The mower came via truck and was packaged well, the unpacking was a breeze with no real assembly required. The mower runs on two batteries (included) and also comes with two chargers. I fully charged both batteries before my first mow and I was curious as to how the batteries would hold up after that initial mow. I was happy to see that after mowing my approx 2,500 sq ft of grass yard the batteries were only halfway drained. It was easy to read the control panel which early shows how much charge you have left. This means I should be able to mow twice before recharging. The pluses of this mower were many including, it’s lightweight, its much more quiet than a gas engine mower, the dual blades seem to cut through my St. Augustine grass without bogging down at all, the mower did amp up during thicker patches powering through with missing a beat. You can audibly hear the mower motor spin at a faster rate. I used the mower in mulching mode although the package did contain a bag for clippings and a side discharge chute if that’s what you prefer. I really the speed dial on the control panel as well, you can adjust your walk pace to your liking. I kept mine at a 2 to 3 only because I wanted to go slower while mulching areas with heavier leaves that had fallen. I found the rear wheel drive very useful as well although the mower seemed easy to push with engaging the rear wheel drive as well. The only con or negative issue I had with the mower was it didn’t seem to mulch through the leaves that well, I had to go over some areas 2 to 3 times before the leafy areas were mulched to my liking. Leaves aren’t a problem here year round so I’m not too worried about that, the mower cuts through grass easily. When I was was finished the mower folded up easily for storage taking up minimal space in my shed. Very impressed overall.

DeWalt DCMWSP256 2x20V Cordless Lawn Mower Review

Single Point Height Adjust system with 6 settings for a variety of grass conditions and cutting preferences 85% Quieter than comparable gas mower Bag fills up to 95% full before needing to be emptied Adjust your walking speed with ease using the speed dial This is a cordless, brushless, battery-powered lawn mower. The battery charge time is eight hours, that provides eighty minutes of cutting time. This DeWalt lawn mower uses one single lever height adjustment point on the rear wheels, 6 settings for a variety of grass conditions and cutting preferences, it makes height adjustment a snap. It is lightweight and very easy to maneuver. The blade speed increases in tougher grass, the drive speed steps up with it. When you encounter thicker grass, I found that I had to be prepared to ease up on the drive bars a little so I can slow down. The rear-wheel drive is not a bad call in and of itself. There is a dial to set the speed you want to match the grass height and your pace. I found that due to the width of the mower deck and wheels the overlap is a little more than you think you need for an even cut. It is just an easy adjustment that you need to make from some other mowers. You can bag, rear side discharge, or mulch the grass with this mower. The handle is easy to fold to store the mower taking up very little space.

    Quiet Neighborhood Mower
I was not sure what to expect from the cordless Dewalt mower. I was not expecting how quiet the mower was nor the ability to adjust the speed for this self propelled mower. In fact, it’s much faster than the gas version I previously owned. Assembly was easy right out of the box and the ability to lower the handle bar and fold it inward was a nice bonus for smaller storage spaces. My yard is fairly large as my home sits on almost a 1/2 acre lot and the grass is on the thicker side. With that said the two supplied batteries were still over half charged upon completing the yard. I did try out the mulching, discharge, and bagging features for my first usage. If you’re looking for something to cut brush, yard trimmings, or bag up leaves, I would look at other options as it seems to lack power for those type task. The engine does kick into what I call a turbo speed, or a more powerful gear when it encountered a higher / thicker amount of grass. This is a great mower for the average neighborhood yard and the person not needing to mulch or bag lots of leaves.

    Slick Self Propelled Mower
I’ve had gas self propelled mowers in the past and currently have a battery powered mower that gets me by but is a measly 16” wide deck. This DEWALT 21” wide double blade mower is a great mower! I wasn’t sure what to expect from only 20V batteries for power compared to other brands that have higher power, but these provide more than enough ‘juice’ to move this mower. Pro’s - The ease of use is a plus, as it’s ready right out if the box. Opened, put the batteries on the charger and within 2 hours, batteries were fully charged and ready to go. Adjustable handle for height that allows for comfortable hand positions. To raise and lower the deck is simple and little to know force to move it. Starting it up is straightforward. Installing and emptying the bag is a breeze. Con’s - I get a little ‘blow’ back from using the bag at the top left and grass escapes. And this is more of getting used to the mower, but having to turn the blades ‘on’ after each start up is a slight hassle, but will get better as I use it more. All in all, a great self propelled mower that had zero issue cutting some over grown grass/weeds or mowing short and picking up leaves. One of the best features is one button push to fold the mower up and slide against a wall so it doesn’t take up room in your shed or garage.

    Excellent mower
This Dewalt mower is a beast of an battery powered lawn mower. I currently was using a Kobalt mower prior to getting the dewalt and i have to say the Dewalt gives a much cleaner cut. There is no assembly required and comes with batteries and chargers. The steel deck is a must for me and the design is great. Only things i think they could improve on is how the batteries slide in and not needing a plastic insert key. To me the key is not necessary and I'm probably gonna zip tie it in place so it doesn't get lost. With that said i don't know why anyone would want to buy a gas powered mower. The first time i used it the battery only went down 1/4 bar, plenty of extra juice afterwards. I would highly recommend

Get up and go-Dewalt XR RWD battery mower
This is a really nice battery powerd mower. It came with 2-20v 10amp batteries and 2 chargers. It took 2.5 hours to charge the batteries. The RWD has speed settings. I was comfortable using the number 3 setting. The wheel height lever is easy to use. One thing I don't like is the battery door doesn't stay open when inserting/taking out the batteries.

    Worst lawn mower ever
I have been mowing my yard for 50 years and this hands down is the worst lawn mower I have ever used. Don’t buy your wasting your time and money.

Waiting a long time for this mower.
I have used 60V flex tools for a year now and I love them all. This mower is no different. I have a large yard that is just under the size of needing a lawn tractor. I use this mower and it takes me 55 minutes from start to finish. I have HALF the battery remaining when I am finished 2-60V Flex 12ah. Use the remaining battery power in my blower, trimmer, edger. The bag fills packed full and heavy. I also have very heavy thick grass that I fertilize 4 times a year.

assembled when it came out of the box, just needed to finish charging the batteries, and it was ready to go. much lighter than the gas model by about 150 pounds, so that's a plus. i will have to keep the small section that i am mowing with the dewalt cut, as it will not handle the grass if it's too long without raising the blade and the lowering it and cutting again. i would not want to use this for a whole yard. suits our purposes just fine.

        Don’t waste your money
I love Dewalt products and for years it’s the only tools I would buy. But this is one I would not recommend. I’ve had for less than 2 years and have had problems most the time. I’m finally giving up and buying a new one. The power stops almost every time now. Red flashing light and won’t start. Both batteries fully charged and working great on other tools but the mower glitches and doesn’t work. Have tried looking it up a bunch of times and seems to be a common occurrence. Disappointed

          Well worth the investment
This is my second electric mower, after my first one (Ryobi) didn’t last longer than 6 months. The reviews on this were promising and I use Dewalt for all my tools. This mower is smooth! Any kinks previous models had seemed to be worked out, great battery life, self propel works great, hasn’t died once even in thick grass. Its very promising and hope it continues to live up to my expectations!

Pretty happy with this purchase although was a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews on past models. Quiet operation so the lawn can be mowed at 8am in Sat without annoying the neighbors. Battery life seems good. Can easily mow 3200 sqft of lawn on a single charge. The drive is nice on the slopes. No complaints so far.

So far so good. Many positive and negative reviews about other dewalt battery mowers. The battery life is excellent for me. Blade was not sharp out of the box, but that's ok. The mower over all is much lighter than my old gas powered which i really like. Makes it easy to maneuver around my landscaping and planting beds. Overall happy with the purchase.

            No suction power!
Was hoping to love this mower and my switch to electric. However, although it does enough to cut the grass, absolutely zero suction power. Put the rear discharge and all the air the blades generate go right back down to the ground. Maybe if they had a high lift option, this would be awesome but just not for me. I like the mower to suck the grass into the blades and sling it out the discharge. If that doesn't bother you, cuts okay, storage is great.
