Killer Force Drills (KFD) have a heavy duty 135 degree split point; Self - centering and you use less pressure to start and finish your job. Excellent for stainless Steel and other high tensile strength materials. Example: Titanium and Inconel. What is Inconel? Inconel is a family of austenitic nickel-chromium-based superalloys. Inconel alloys are oxidation-corrosion-resistant materials well suited for service in extreme environments subjected to pressure and heat. When heated, Inconel forms a thick, stable, passivating oxide layer protecting the surface from further attack. Inconel retains strength over a wide temperature range, attractive for high temperature applications where aluminum and steel would succumb to creep as a result of thermally induced crystal vacancies. Inconel's high temperature strength is developed by solid solution strengthening or precipitation hardening, depending on the alloy.

Got a set of these bits. They are designed for quick change and that part works well. These bits are built with two pieces. I tried to drill in hard metal which they say they are supposed to do but I went through two of the bits. Both the bits broke before I could get the holes drilled. I'm sure they would probably work OK with wood or a softer metal.

There are a couple of sizes I use a lot. I primarily use my impact driver so having the ¼” Hex Shank makes it quick to change. Because they have a 135° split point they are supposed to self-center when drilling, so far they has be true for me. Most of what I’ll be drilling into is mild steel and some wood, so I’m hoping they’ll last a long time since they’re designed to drill into stainless steel and hard metals. I like to keep several on hand so if I have a problem on a job site I can just can change out. When I get back to the shop at night or in the morning, I’ll take some time to sharpen them.

1/4 in. Quick Change Drill Bit with Hex Shank (12-Pieces). Made by Drill America. I like the way it handled, Made of Very hard metal, it only took me seconds to bore thru steel with speed and ease. It also keeps itself center with no problems, I could keep going without having to worry about the tip of this bit getting rounded anytime soon. Plus the Hex shank is a perfect fit for my impact driver. Yes, I would recommend it to my friends.

but, i am just a home do it yourselfer. my only application is to make pilot holes. this prevents me from spliting wood when using my impact driver as a drill. i have two, 1/4" quick change impact drivers with 3 torque settings, one for making pilot hole, the other for driving the wood screw. this bit, worms out the shaved wood, makes for less time, of cleaning out/prepping the pilot hole so that the wood screw does not have to deal with a plug/pile of shavings,

These bits seem to be holding up very well. They are HSS (High speed steel) bits. So far I have used them on wood substrate mainly as I build a lot of things out of wood. I have also used these bits to drill plastics, PVC pipe, and I have drilled some holes in steel. I like that they are quick change so that I can use the different sizes in my quick change shank adapter, or my impact driver. I haven't used them in the impact driver very often, because I generally have my drill handy when I am building anything.

Product: Drill America KFD Killer Force 5/16" Drill Bit w/Hex Shank/Country of Origin: Unknown///// The Drill America KFD Killer Force 5/16" Drill Bit w/Hex Shank is one darned good bit. It's made from high speed steel and features a 135 degree split point which permits drilling into most wood and metal without fear of the bit walking around your project. It's been surface treated for use on stainless steel and other extremely hard metals and, generally speaking, is a good choice for general drilling purposes. The hex shank permits its use in quick-change chucks and the bit stays sharp for quite a while. Unless your needs are specific, I'd recommend this bit to anyone looking for a good, long lasting, general purpose drilling solution.

Whoever invented the quick change drill bit is a genius. Although these bits cost a little bit more than their competitors' bits, they are well worth it. The construction and materials used are excellent and unlike other cheaper bits, they spin true with no wobble. They are much sharper and stay sharp much longer than their competitors' bits. The bits drill extremely clean holes with little to no tear out even in soft woods like pine.

If you need 12 of theses bits, this is the deal for you. The bit is strong and can go through just about anything you trow at it. The tinsel strength is better than I've seen in a bit in a a long time. The metal that it made from will allow the bit to last a long time. The only thing I believe is the way the description led one to believe that you were getting different sizes of bits and the shank was 1/4".

Drill America KFD Hex Drill Bit Review All of us who drill a lot of holes understand that not all drill bits are created equal. How do they differ? 1. The quality of the material. These bits are made of High Speed M2 steel, coated with a black and gold finish - titanium. Very good quality high speed steel and titanium coated! 2. How well are the bits machined. These bits are well machined. When I hold them in my hand, I feel the symmetry and the sharpness of the cutting edge. 3. Point. These bits have a 135 degree point, which helps keep the bit from wandering as you start the hole. 4. Consistency. These bits are very consistent. I measure the diameter of randomly chosen bits out of my set of 12 and they are very consistent. I like the way these bits cut through both the hard stuff and the easy stuff. Here's what I tested them on. First, I drilled a hole in a pine/fir 2X4. Easy - cut through like butter and no heat on the bit. Second, I drilled a hole in a old cedar 2x4. Nice clean hold, cut relatively quickly and the bit did get hot. Third, I drilled a hole in a 1x4 piece of Red Oak. This one surprised me. It cut through very easily - quicker than the cedar 2x4. Clean hole and the bit got hot, but not as hot as the cedar. Fourth, I drilled a hole in a piece of 22 ga galvanized steel. I put a small dimple in the metal and drilled a 1/8" hole before drilling the 5/16 hole. It cut through surprisingly well. No walking and not too grabby when it punched through. A little bit of deformation of the metal, but much better than many of the bits I own. Fifth. I drilled a hole in a piece of scrap 18 ga stainless steel - from a dryer drum. Again, I put a dimple in the metal and drilled a 1/8" hole (wow, this stuff is pretty hard), then I started to drill. I used water as a coolant/lubricant. I also used a low speed vs high speed. Also, quite a bit of pressure. It was pretty quick for drilling stainless. I am very impressed. These bits work much, much better than regular Black Oxide bits. After drilling through all the materials, the bit is still sharp. The hex end makes it easy to change bits and there's no slipping in a chuck. I have a feeling that these bits will stay sharp for a long time. The biggest bonus is if I hit a nail while drilling in a stud, I don't have to worry about the bit. One final item. These bits have pretty deep flutes, so they are great when clearing drilled material, but if the bit jams, I wonder if the bit will snap easier. Deep flutes mean less material down the center of the bit. Just a though. Highly recommended!
