If you are a nosy person like me, that is, you have noticed that five models (colors) of the NewGen Toasters in Charcoal, Chrome, Canary Yellow (Citrus Yellow is NewGen), Petal Pink, and Red (not to be confused with Apple Candy Red) have Dualit Classic Vario toaster model numbers. The Vario toaster looks very similar to the NewGen toaster but the Vario has fewer features than the NewGen and the one feature you can spot immediately if you find one online is the red toggle switch for slot selection on the Vario above the timer dial rather than the NewGen’s slot selection large round black dial found on the NewGen toaster model. The Dualit Classic NewGen toaster is simply the best toaster made anywhere, period. It doesn’t have some of the features of other toasters that have everything known that a toaster can do—reheat, automatic pop-up, automatic riser that lowers bread for toasting by pressing a button, to name three things. But, it does possess five features that no other toaster has that makes it the phenomenal toaster it is. Along with the things it has that many toaster have such as a bagel setting, a defrost setting, a crumb tray, wide slots for extra thick bread, IT HAS FIVE FUNCTIONS THAT OTHER TOASTERS SIMPLY DON’T HAVE AND PROBABLY NEVER WILL. THESE ARE: 1. PRO-HEAT ELEMENTS to eliminate uneven toasting. These heating elements are wrapped around a board continuously from top to bottom. Instead of the other toasters’ dozen at most heating elements strings toasting bread about 1/2” apart each, the PRO-HEAT elements number 31-32 rows of elements on each side of the card shielded by a sheet of mica keeping the elements “clean and…unbreakable.” This extreme heat toasts the bread very evenly from top to bottom, and right to the crust on all sides. 2. NO AUTO POP-UP: The Classic NewGen does not pop up the bread or pastry after toasting. After the toasting cycle is complete, it turns off but leaves the bread deep in the toasting well to keep the item warm until it’s removed. 3. ADJUSTABLE FOOT: The toaster has one adjustable foot in the case the countertop is not perfectly level. 4. REPAIRABLE: Instead of throwing this toaster away after a few years of use, the Classic NewGen is totally repairable by a qualified Dualit technician. This will allow the owner to buy one toaster virtually for a lifetime. 5. SELECTABLE TOASTING SLOTS: May be the most unique feature of the Classic NewGen is the feature that allows you to select the number of slots you will be using. Only those slots will be heated. Put your bread in the far left slot for Slot #1, with #4 slot ends up being on the far right. Only that number of selected slots will heat up for toasting those slots. Uneven toasting can result if the number selected on the dial does not match the number of slots filled. These five features found on the Dualit Classic NewGen two-slot and four-slot toasters propel them into the stratosphere well above the other brand name toasters, some of which reach into the atmosphere, while others never except Earth’s gravity pull. Extremely recommended.

The Finest Toast Made for Home Use—Period!
Before my review, I want to warn everyone that reads this that there are three models of this toaster that are shown to be Classic NewGen toasters but in actually are Classic Vario toasters which have less functions and are made in China and may not be repairable. The Vario model looks exactly like the NewGen, and thus, they are advertised as NewGens but are not. These are the Charcoal, Chrome, Canary Yellow (Citrus Yellow is NewGen), Petal Pink, and Red (Apple Candy Red is NewGen). Look at the Model Number in the Title. Vario models begin with 40xxx whereas NewGen model numbers begin with 47xxx. This is the easiest way to tell. You can’t tell by price because price is driven simply by demand. The more popular the color, the higher the price. So, one Vario color may be priced at $240.00 while another may be $270.00. *********************************************************************************************************************************** The Dualit Classic NewGen toaster is simply the best toaster made anywhere, period. Great Toaster That Does What It Is Supposed to Do! Toast Bread Well
I won’t go into a long, drawn-out description of the toaster and what it can do other than to say it toasts bread, all kinds of bread and does it perfectly. This toaster is more like Inspector Morse’s Jaguar in that it has manual transmission and no electrics. It does not do the things such as automatic lowering and raising the bread before and after toasting. It doesn’t have an automatic Lift and Look—one has to manually push down on the lever to see the toasting level. It doesn’t have a “little bit more” toasting setting in case you want a little more brown color. But, what it does have makes up for what it doesn’t. It leaves to toasted item in the toaster after it has completed the job, therefore, keeping the toasted items warm. It does have its own patented heating elements with far more wires to evenly toast the bread or whatever rather than a row or heating elements 1/2 inch apart vertically and horizontally. And, you can’t even see these elements at work. Instead of an LED bar that counts down from say 6 bars to none to tell you when it’s finished toasting, or an actual timer telling you the amount of time left until the toasting is completed, it has a dial that you turn to start the toasting process and it rotates backwards until it gets back to where it started. This is an attended toaster that begs you to stay near until the toasting has ended. Finally, and this one is great—the NewGen is repairable. All parts can be replaced with new ones. This is basically a toaster for a generation. And one more thing, it’s NOT made in China. It’s handmade in England. Now, this only goes for the Dualit NewGen toasters. All other Dualit toasters ARE made in China, but the NewGen toasters in all 20+ colors and finishes are HANDMADE in England. I just wish it came with more than a 1-year warranty. If my coffeemaker made in Holland has a 5-year warranty, why can’t my toaster? Thank goodness for Extended Warranties. There is one more great thing about the Dualit NewGen toaster that needs mentioning, but it’s somewhat different from the list in the above paragraph. This toaster has a smaller footprint than I imagined. Compared to other 4-slice, 4-slot toasters, the NewGen is very compact. It allows one to junk up the countertop with useless kitchen toys. HAHA Dualit even puts a small black dot on the dial that should give you the perfect piece of toasted fresh white bread. I tried it and it is the perfect setting if you like toast crunchy on the outside and soft and pillowy on the inside. OK, so there must be some downside to this toaster. Some will say the price is one. Mine was in one of the new colors that Dualit labeled as Neutral—Shadow. That bumped the cost up by $40.00 over the other NewGen models with their well-known colors such as Candy Apple Red and Matte Black. With tax, mine came to $346.00+ and I could only find these new colors, Naturals and Neutrals and one US outlet—and no, it’s Home Depot. I always find it amusing why people lower the number of stars of an item when writing a review because it’s costly or expensive. One knows the price before purchasing it so why complain about it in the review and then lowering a 5-star review to three stars because of its price? Goes to show you that most don’t really know how to review a product after purchase. Well, this price is what I paid and I got what I paid for. And what I got is a darn good toaster in a neat color that fits on my countertop and looks great and toasts great as well. There are two good options that can be purchased for this toaster: a sandwich cage and a warming rack. One can use the cage to make and toast buttered sandwiches in the toaster. It will even melt cheese between two pieces of bread to make a toasted cheese sandwich. Personally, I will toast Kellogg’s PopTarts in each of four sandwich cages to insure the Tarts don’t fall in between the riser and the toaster and also will help insure that if a PopTart were to drip any filling, it would fall into the bottom fold of the sandwich cage and not the toaster itself. The other is a warming rack that sits on top of the toaster that warms bread, rolls or pastries from the heat of the toaster during the time the toaster in in use and even afterwards while the toaster is in cool-down mode. So, are there any downsides? Yes, a short cable that is terribly placed. By that I mean it “exits” the toaster on the right bottom side. So what if your electrical outlet is not to the right of your toaster? I had to rearrange my countertop so that the cord could reach the electric outlet. Why not put it in the middle of the back of the toaster? That would at least satisfy half of the buyers. Other than the one downside, the old saying still holds true. “You get what you pay for” and in this case you get a great toaster for a price equaling the value of the toaster, so far as I can tell. If I can amend this review at a later date, I shall do so to let everyone know how the NewGen is holding up. I had had my NewGen for all of five (5) hours during which time I put it through the ringer filled with toasting all kinds of breads. I had to have some baseline from which I review this product. I did in three of those five hours, more testing than most consumers would do in three months. So, I feel that I am qualified to write this review as I have. I hope this has helped you make a decision in purchasing a Dualit NewGen toaster.

      Won't buy another toaster
Our first Dualit came to us by chance but it has been choice since then. The thing that I love about our latest, Dualit nextgen canvas, and the other chrome one that we own, (can't speak for wedding presents), is that they are truly beautiful on the outside, gorgeous mechanically, have never ever let us down, and are flexible to our toasting needs. I am a huge advocate of the sandwich cages and will never go back - each toaster has two, and am also a fan of the little griddle that sits above the toaster, making sure that that heat energy is used for something productive.

          Great toaster
Old throwback styling, great color and construction. Like how you can toast one or three slices of bread and not have an extra slot cooking as well. Recommend the optional sandwich maker. Great for making grilled cheese quickly. Easy to clean with pull out crumb tray.

Simple, heavy duty, and not made in China
OK, its a little expensive, but if you want a no frills heavy duty toaster this is it. Supposedly you can even get replacement parts if you need them. I bought this model because I was tired of buying a new one ever 2-3 years. I'm hopeful this is the last one I have to buy. I recommend getting the sandwich cage to make a no mess grill cheese sandwich.
