Works Great
We bought ours when power went out during a bad storm. This thing works great. Because the top is flat, I was able to cook on it too. I noticed some complaints about the wick being smoky, the directions clearly state you need to fill with karosene and let sit outside for an hour. While it's still outside, you light it for the first time and let it burn for 10 minutes. Then you can take it indoors without any problem. And the directions say to always ignite it outside when you're getting ready to use it. It's not really high maintenance. It's like anything else that's either never been used, or rarely used. Note.... make sure to use K-1 karosene only. If you're concerned about using karosene indoors, use a carbon monoxide detector and leave a window cracked.

Easy to set up but it is not clear that the top lid goes on top and sits there. Yes the brackets keep it level and slightly snug. The top does not snap in nor lock in. Don’t try to force it. Other than minor assembly, it is ready to go. Caution: you cannot load kerosene then turn the wick up and light it. You will need to first-time let the wick soak the kerosene up. That is 15-30 minutes. Then the wick will light. My garage is 23 x 23 with 16 foot ceilings. I leave this on for a couple of hours and when it is 10 out, it is 50 in the garage. Garage is uninsulated. Caution. Light it up outside and let it heat up for a few mins outside for the ver first time to avoid smell. Teu to turn it off and not let is die off for the same reason: smell. Smell is not bad but those are two simple things you can do to make the heater less noticeable. Heat is steady!

The top plate is held in place by the handle passing thru the two small openings in the top plate.

The heater met my expectations by heating the rooms very well. The only problem is when you turn it off, I can’t tolerate the awful smell. What can be done about that?

      Response from DuraHeatJan 16, 2023
This odor can be caused by several things. Be sure to shut the heater off by turning the wick adjuster knob down and not by using the auto extinguish shut-off. Poor fuel quality can also add to the odor. Putting Kero-Klean kerosene fuel treatment into your storage container can help reduce odors as well.

Just what eased my mind. With bad weather and power outages I needed to be sure to have a back up plan in case of emergency.
      Perfect for emergency heating needs

First time using one of these. Easy to put together. The starter instructions were a little unclear. When pushing the starter switch you don’t need to push it very hard. Just push it almost to the wick to light. This did provide good heat after our furnace went out. Kerosene odor was minimal. 2 gallons of kerosene lasted about 12 hours of use.

This heater gives out good heat when working. The wick doesn't last long at all. The ignition is another sore point with me.

      Works great
This heater puts out a good amount of heat that travels straight up. We started it outside to keep from smoking up the house, which paid off as the wind cover was tilted and caused a lot of smoke. Once we tapped it back into place, it worked great. Easy to fill with kerosene.

Thank you for your comments. As explained in the owners manual, the burner chimney should be checked for proper placement, every time that the heater is lit.

      Works well in an emergency
Works very well-purchased as emergency in case of power outage. It is easy to light and lightweight. It consumes fuel very quickly-since this is my first experience I am not sure if this is the norm.

Easy assembly. Puts out good heat. Only complaint is the ignitor takes too long to light the wick causing odor when lighting. I use a grill lighter to avoid the issue.

Please check that the igniter is hitting the wick correctly. It is possible that the igniter arm is slightly bent.

      Well made fuel burner.
Good quality. But the fuel usage rate is high. If one was trapped in a "bad weather event" they would need a lot of kerosene to survive. On the lowest setting a tank full is equal to about eight hours runtime.

This heater really cranks out the BTUs. I was extremely pleased with the heat output. Put it in the living room and it heated pretty much the entire house. We live in a 2 bedroom house, and you could feel the heat even in the furthest bedroom. If there is a downside it is the fumes. The fumes weren't bad while it was running, but when we shut it off it filled the entire house with a noxious chemical odor that lingered all night. I'd suggest taking it outside before you turn it off.

      Response from DuraHeatJan 8, 2023
Please be sure to "wind" the wick all the way down when shutting off. Sometimes if the wick is not turned down completely, there will be a small flame still burning inside the heater-at the wick. This low burn can cause strong odor.

      So so.
The ignition button broke almost immediately. The heat is fine but fouls the chimney on low or high. It heats about 360 square feet, enough for 2 rooms.
      by
      Response from DuraHeatJan 6, 2023
Fouling in the Chimney is often a design of low quality or contaminated fuel. Please consult your owners manual or contact our customer service department at 1-800-776-9425 if you believe that your heater is not operating properly.

      Good Heater But...
This unit is a strong performer in terms of producing heat and using fuel sparingly. My only issue with this purchase is that it had been opened and the batteries that should have been with it were missing. The igniter on the unit is also flawed.Because this was the only one in the store nothing short of returning the heater at a later date was an option. The agony and ecstasy of retail.
