the heater works great. it lights very fast and only smells like kerosene a bit when it is first lit and first shut off. the little refueling pump that comes with it is just about worthless.

Works well when it works
When the heater is lit and operational it does its' job. The batteries that came with the unit lasted about 5 lights. The battery ignition system with new batteries failed after another week. Now the only way to lite the heater is with an LP BBQ lighter. Only after purchasing the unit I find out you are supposed to inspect the wick each month and possibly replace the ignitor when it fails. Works well when lit but maintenance is problematic.

Please be sure that you are using 1-K kerosene only and that the flame height has been adjusted based on the instructions in the owners manual. You may also find that our PW-11 kerosene fuel treatment will help reduce the odors.

Kerosene odor can be minimized by using only 1-K kerosene and operating your heater in the ideal set range on the control knob. You may also want to consider our Kero-Klean fuel treatment. It is available at homedepot.com. Search PW-11 kerosene fuel treatment.

Once it’s tuned in, it works perfectly. It’s finding that spot that’s difficult. I went to YT and there’s several videos to help out.

Piece of junk
Your KW -24 kerosene space heater is a price of garbage. The outside metal cage is not manufactured correctly so the bottom can’t be secured. The flame is completely uneven is spite of my attempts to move the burner to make it even. The spring loaded wick is a joke! Keeps slipping and turning off. Who’s stupid idea was that!? Taking it back to Home Depot. Call Shanghai and tell them to get their crap together!

These heaters are life savers! During the 2017 windstorm (I believe it was in March) I lost power for over 2 weeks! If it was not for the DuraHeat heater I would have been forced to leave my home. I'm not very fond of leaving my home without occupancy especially during a power outage. I highly recommend these heaters. They are built very well and give off a great deal of comforting heat. Gives me great confidence before the next storm/power outage.

When it is running, the heat output is as expected. However, the wick adjuster is too sensitive and will slip to the lowest position if not careful. Also, when lowered to lowest position the flame continues to flicker for at least 5 minutes instead of immediately extinguishing. I returned one of these heaters for the reasons described but kept this one since I need heat for my garage.
