Hello, thank you for your feedback. We have not seen significant expansion or contraction when properly installed with the 1/8" gap between vents as mentioned in the installation instructions. This product is made with UV stable polymers and is tested to ensure the product resists expansion/contraction or warping when left exposed to the elements. Also, the proper air slot is no more than 7/8". This product is sold through the northern portion of the US and Canada and has not experienced complaints with rodent intrusion to date. As you mentioned, it does a very good job at exhausting heat and moisture when installed in a properly balanced attic ventilation system consisting of exhaust and intake, at or near the soffits. Hello, we're sorry to hear about your experience. All ridge vents, as your probably aware, require proper intake ventilation, typically at the soffit area. Also, this product is test by 3rd party to ensure airflow is not impeded by the integral snow filter which as you stated helps resist fine snow infiltration.
