Product Overview

Quality roofing underlayment is critical for helping to prevent wind-driven rain from infiltrating under the roof's shingles and potentially damaging the home's structure and interior. Traditional asphalt felt underlayments tear easily and absorb moisture, leading to wrinkling that telegraphs through the shingles. Competitively priced with typical #15 and #30 asphalt felts, GAF FeltBuster High-Traction Synthetic Roofing Felt is virtually untearable and will not absorb moisture, helping to prevent wrinkling. Its specially designed surface combines enhanced walk ability with a cooler working surface (versus black asphalt felts). Part of the GAF Lifetime Roofing System, FeltBuster High-Traction Synthetic Roofing Felt is covered by up to a lifetime limited warranty when installed on lifetime shingle roofs.
  • This product is water-resistant; it is NOT waterproof.  It is intended as a secondary layer of water-shedding protection underneath the primary roof covering, such as asphalt shingles. Do NOT USE as a temporary roof or “dry-in” solution to protect property or possessions.
  • Enhanced Walkability — Special spunbound surface helps provide increased traction versus typical asphalt felts
  • Tough Synthetic Construction — Resists tearing and will not absorb moisture, become brittle, or leach oils
  • Cooler to Work On — Medium-gray surface is up to 30° cooler than typical black asphalt felts (Based on GAF testing with underlayments installed on plywood deck at 90°F (32.2°C) ambient temperature and left exposed to direct sunlight)
  • Easy to Work With — Super-lightweight, 10-square, 48 in. (1.23 m) wide roll (versus typical 36 in. [914 mm] wide felt rolls)
  • Durable — Non-asphaltic polypropylene construction for long-lasting performance (unlike conventional felts that can disintegrate over time)
  • A Better-Looking Roof — Lies flatter than typical felts and avoids “telegraphing” of wrinkles, which can detract from the look of the new roof
  • Peace of Mind — Part of the GAF Lifetime Roofing System and eligible for Lifetime ltd. warranty when installed on Lifetime Shingle roofs (See GAF Shingle & Accessory Ltd. Warranty for complete coverage and restrictions)

I am not in Ca, but I would think an inspector would expect what is approved for siding, not roofing. Always read the company website

Thanks for your question. GAF does not have applications for the Liberty Membrane to be installed over the FeltBuster underlayment. Unfortunately, FeltBuster is designed as an underlayment for asphalt shingles. It is not intended to be a base sheet. Please contact the Technical Services Team at 800-766-3411 for approved substrates the Liberty products may be installed to.

Feltbuster rolls out flat and has lines every 2" to assist in keeping the roofing strait. We install most all laminate shingles at a dropped exposure of 4" - which makes Feltbuster perfect. GAF Feltbuster is reasonably priced at Home Depot, however we are not finding it in stock lately.

This is an awesome product!! So much lighter then traditional roll of felt, easy to walk on and MUCH cooler too. Well worth the extra money when comparing it to traditional felt ... not to mention a lot more sq. ft. per roll. I like the fact that is a plastic based product and not paper.

This is an excellent product. Lightweight, wide width makes for less seams, "charting" on the FeltBuster helps with capped nail placement as well as shingle positioning. I used FeltBuster in conjunction with the GAF roofing system and it has been a pleasure to work with. You can tell the difference in heat absorption versus standard felt the moment you put it down. And this stuff is durable....I walked on it with no slip or damage.
