    Easy to install but I don’t like the fact that you must have more Google products just to use lock in app. I feel as if I am being forced to buy other products after paying $300 plus dollars for something I can’t use unless I buy another product. Not fair on any level.

    Hi there. We hear your feedback on the Nest x Yale Lock. You will need to have Google Nest Connect installed and connected to the Nest app for the Nest × Yale Lock to work with the app. Setup and controls are found in the Nest app. While you can manage and change the lock settings with either Nest app or Google Home app, full features and functionality are found in the Nest app. Aside from the Nest Connect, other Google Nest devices are not required.     Battery and hardware are problems
    I've given up on Yale. I've taken two systems back to the store. Both had "hardware" issues according to the Yale tech support rep. The batter doesn't last very long. Keep batteries on tap because you will be replacing them. Make sure you have that key with you because you will need it if the system suddenly stops working. I read MANY reviews after the fact about the short lived batteries. Locked myself out twice. I would not recommend.

      Brutally difficult to get working online. Instructions do not match with reality. After 7 cycles of repeating instructions, unit suddenly worked. Horrible technology. Nice looking. Not worthy of Yale brand.

      We are unable to use the lock as the inside lock does not fit in our door and is too short. I went to the store to try to buy a longer lock but they do not sell them.

However, your door needs to meet certain size requirements. Installation requires precise alignment to connect the parts to your door and each other so you must test and calibrate it. The steps are relatively straightforward, but you must pay attention to the details. Then, connect it to the Nest app so you can control it with your phone. Install the Nest × Yale strike plate that comes with your lock. If you don’t, your lock may jam. While your current strike plate may look the same, the Yale plate is engineered to precisely fit your new lock.       Mechanical installation was easy enough. Linking it to Wi-Fi was easy / linking to Google not so much / locking it via the app was problematic as it said the locking bolt did not function properly, even though the dead bolt was fully extended.

      The Nest × Yale Lock requires precise alignment to connect the parts to your door and each other. If the deadbolt catches on the strike plate or if the hole in your door frame is the wrong size for the bolt, the Nest app will show a message saying the lock has jammed. During installation, the Nest app will have you confirm that the bolt can extend and retract without jamming. It’s important not to skip this step. An incorrectly installed lock may jam during use. When the bolt is jammed, you won’t be able to use the Nest app or the keypad to lock or unlock your door. You’ll only be able to use the thumb turn inside your home.

      We suggest trying these quick fixes:
      - Gently close your door and use the thumb turn inside your home to lock it. If there’s any friction, or if you need to push or pull on the door to get the lock to fully engage, it’s a good sign your deadbolt is misaligned.
      - With the door open, extend the deadbolt and clean it thoroughly. Be sure to remove any build-up that may have accumulated.
      - With the bolt still extended, spray a graphite lubricant on it. Use the thumb turn to extend and retract the bolt several times.
      - From inside your home, close your door and try using the Nest app to lock it. If it works, you can stop here.

      Also, once you’ve set up the lock in the Nest app, it may link automatically in the Home app depending on your settings. To find out if your devices linked automatically:
      - Close both the Nest app and Home app.
      - Open the Home app Google Home app.
      - Check if the devices are listed under a room name or under ""Local devices.""

      First I was leery because of the expensive price. Second it doesn’t have a key backup. Setup was not too difficult but the problem is even with the volume on high you can barely hear it! My problem is the app keeps locking up. Crashing and when you try to get help you have to talk to someone in the Philippines who you can barely understand and they don’t understand you! Needless to say my problem was not resolved. I won’t have this problem anymore because I’m purchasing a different lock.

        Since the lock won’t link, the first step is to make sure that your border router (Nest Connect) is within range (~50ft direct line of sight) of the Nest x Yale Lock and Wi-Fi router. This range could be shorter if there are potential sources of interference, either physical interference (thickness and type of walls, mirrors, windows, etc.) and competing signals (other wireless devices, baby monitors, microwaves, etc.). If Nest Connect is too far away from your lock, your lock will be offline in the app but Nest Connect will be online.         Lock malfunctioned and didn’t work.
        The lock kept jamming on itself because it would spin the wrong way. It won’t calibrate unless it’s in a door. Unfortunately it locked me out of my house and I had to wait for 2 hours for a locksmith to let me in. Was impossible to remove lock from frame. Screws strip very easily including the bolt holes. Had to remove a part of my door to get the lock off. Can’t return it now and Yale won’t actually send out the form to get a replacement. $300 gone.

Even if the lock is offline, most passcodes will still work. So will the thumb turn inside your home. And when power is out, you can hold a 9 Volt battery on the contacts at the bottom of the lock that will temporarily charge the lock, so you can enter the passcode on the keypad to lock or unlock it.

            Google makes a good search engine
            Google, stay in your lane! This lock has NEVER worked properly since we purchased it. Their "customer service" department kept giving us band aid fixes until the warranty expired then told us we needed to buy a new one. It never stays connected to the network and the keypad will just intermittently quit working. It's a $300 paperweight.
