unit came fully assembled. No problems . Excellent instruction on use and care of trap. meets all my expectations. Works great!!

The triggering mechanism does not work very well. The bar that connects the pressure plate to the hook release is not designed very well and does not move easily enough to properly release the door to swing close. After the door trap is set, the pressure plate is not high enough to allow for enough distance to release the door when the animal steps on the pressure plate. I haven't tried to start bending things and replacing parts to get it to work yet and quite honestly, for the money this cost I shouldn't have to rework the design. It does not meet my expectations and I would not recommend it. I kind of feel like I got suckered.

Used this to catch some stray cats. Took em to the vet, got em fixed. Brought em back. Lots of room in this cage. It's very durable, and also pretty heavy. Make sure you can lift the product weight before you buy + whatever you think your going to be catching.

The trigger mechanism is not very sensitive. Racoons were able to steal the bait off the hook and retreat without tripping the trigger.

This live trap is easy use. We have caught several raccoons and opossums and it was easy to set and release the animals. The animals have room to move around without getting hurt. I would purchase this live trap again.

I was trying to catch a large cat and bought this extra large trap to do the job (this was a very, very large tomcat!). The cat was either really, really smart and kept avoiding the plate to drop the door or the plate was just too small/skinny for such a large trap. I ended up throwing food in the back of the trap and when the cat was all the way in the back of the trap, I stuck my finger through the bars and pushed the plate myself to get the door to drop. If the cat hadn't gone in there with me standing there or it had been a wild animal I was trying to catch, I'm not sure I could give a very good review.

Product is just as described. Well made. Functions as advertised. Perfect for larger animals.

Pleased with trap as it holds large raccoons that escape smaller traps. Had to rebuild and reinforce trap with tightly pulled cable ties when it arrived as the door and most of the metal clips had fallen off. The trap is also a bit difficult to set and I've had to use pliers to bend the hook into place. Overall glad I bought it though.

Assembly of the trigger plate to door release was poor - misaligned. I was unable to get it to release smoothly and with minimum pressure.

The first one we received did not work properly but was returned easily and a replacement was sent. It arrived quickly and worked great.

Basic construction was heavy enough, but assembly of unit was poor with clamps holding sections of unit together. Loose and missing clamps and clamps crimped too tight and in the wrong place was problematic and caused problems with trigger. Also trigger design was poor with too much lost motion and inaccurate dimensional control of trigger positioning. Could not get trigger to work properly due to above problems. Spring loaded trap door and latch design was good.

This may work for an extra large hamster, but it is <<not>> extra large. Construction, etc. was acceptable, but the size is overstated.

Needed an XL trap to relocate a 25+ pound raccoon that had been tormenting our cat and dog. Quite successful; used marshmallows for bait.

This is our third Havahart trap but the first X-large. Although it is very sturdy, the trigger mechanism leaves much to be desired. Very sloppy in play. Four nights in a row we watched the targeted animal enter, eat, lay down, and leave without the trip plate springing. We had to do a lot a wire bending and testing to get it to work dependably. Hopefully tonight is the night!
