After using this shower pan one time small black spots are appearing on the smooth surface of the pan. I did not see them while inspecting the pan prior to the install. Also, this is my second install. My contractor scratched my first pan. Not worth it. I would just use tile in the future.

I've been in the construction business for 40+ years and know what works and what doesn't work in the long-term. Cast iron is expensive, but well worth the investment! So when it came time to build another new home to retire in, I chose the Kohler cast iron shower base. Yes, it's extremely heavy and more difficult to manhandle, but for the long haul it's worth the additional money and effort. It's rock solid, with a durable high quality finish (with slip resistant textured strips), and very easy to clean and maintain. The wife and I could not be happier with our choice for functionality and aesthetic beauty. Good job, Kohler!

The Kohler Salient cast iron shower base has the look and feel that I was looking for. Keep in mind the weight when you order the product. It arrives very well packed in a custom pallet that protects the unit. After unpacking it is a 2-man carry to your bath. I installed this 2 weeks ago and it looks great. Can't wait to get the tile completed, doors installed, and be able to use it. I looked at other acrylic bases, but I wanted a shower base that is more substantial. If you are looking for quality shower pan with a high-end look and feel the Kohler Salient is what you need.

This is a great solid base unlike anything else out there and I'm sure it would last a lifetime if properly cared for. However, for me the color (white) is not a true white. It's in the white family, maybe like an off-white, bone white, warm white? I wanted to love it but sadly after looking at for a month it just wouldn't grow on me and I had to return it. Kohler in my opinion should name this color differently or at least offer a heads up as to the shade of white.

Just be aware if you are replacing a bathtub with shower curtain with this shower pan and glass sliding doors, it is seemingly MUCH more narrow and smaller. We can barely stand sideways and wash our hair without bumping into the wall and glass doors. It just feels so cramped now. This says nothing about the quality of this shower pan, which looks great with a nice finish.

Excellent and ended up with only a 2.5 inch threshold which is really nice! Have only been using the new shower for about a month and absolutely love it. When our tile installer was doing the job he said the next time he puts a shower in his own home he is going to use one of these. Reason being, the bottom of a tile shower, especially the grout, takes a major beating over time and is a lot more work to maintain and keep clean (a lot of grout to keep clean, etc) and with the durability of one of these cast iron receptors he thinks it's superior. One thing to watch out for on the install; Because the back side of the tile must come out far enough to miss the radius of the lip of the receptor, be sure the walls are furred out far enough so your tile setter won't have to float the wall any thicker than necessary. Tile setter will know exactly what this means. Receptor is sitting on the subfloor and with a 5/8" underlayment this reduced the threshold down to about 2.5". Highly Recommend!

Beautiful finish and all around great looking piece. Nothing else compares to cast iron -heavy and pricey but worth it.

Need to check carefully before install it. I have some yellow spots that won’t come off. Still giving it five star because it look so good.

The item comes with some off-white/light grey striping. The image does not show that clearly, and I am afraid it will show stains after a while and be hard to clean. I bought a grey base so that it didn't show everything... So much for that idea. Time will tell now.

We chose this base as a part of a complete bathroom re-model. We took out an old bathtub in a 100+ year old building and replaced it with this cast iron base. One of the main reasons for this was the ease of installation and the top quality. I wasn't really interested in doing all the prep work to install a new shower base and this option looked really good. I was super nervous about the delivery, but it was no problem at all. My son and I carried the base up to the bathroom. After preparing the new subfloor and setting the pads for the feet of the base, we set it in place and that was it. We were done. The rest of the remodel was blocking it into place and tiling the shower. The instructions were very good and the quality is awesome. I put some insulation under the base to keep down some of the noise below us, but it's probably not needed. This base is rock solid. My only caution is that when replacing this with older work, the plumbing connections can be a little dicey. Very doable, but takes a little care. We're very happy with the base. Easy to clean and keep looking great.

Great shower base. Heavy, but solid unit

This shower pan is beautiful and very well made. It was shipped on a pallet with a protective wood frame and arrived perfect. Three things to know up front: 1 - it's stated weight was 240 lbs for the 60x36. 2 - It has a "shallow" depth so if you are planning on using a shower curtain just be sure it has magnets. 3 - the lip around the 3 sides is not to tall for tile so be sure it works for your liking.

The cast iron base shower pan is heavy, but was packaged extremely well to prevent damage. The pan, though more expensive than acrylic options, will be easier to clean and much longer “like new” appearance.

We purchased this cast iron shower base and had a lot of questions and concerns before we bought it. I hope to address these questions and concerns in this review. Does the base grip well? YES! Much better than expected. Is the base free standing? Yes. This is one of the best features of the base. No need for mortar, just set and forget. Is the $110 delivery fee worth it? YES! We had it delivered to the master bathroom. It took 2 strong men and lots of strength.

Our shower base has a defect on the floor near the drain. We like the style, but it’s too bad that the quality control at Kohler wasn’t better.

The shower base was very well packaged and arrived in excellent condition. Being cast iron it is very heavy with absolutely no chance of it flexing. It looks great installed and I’m sure that it will last a lifetime.

It appears but at this time it is still sitting in the garage awaiting installation

I love Kohler products. I could have spent less and gotten an acrylic shower pan. I wanted the quality of Kohler cast iron for durability and beauty!

We have a basement under our shower and I didn't want to risk any leakage/grout issues with a tile floor. So we went with this Kohler cast iron. It is rock solid and not going anywhere. It's been down for 3 years now and I still love it as much as the day it went in. If we ever build another house, this will be going into it!! Thank you Kohler. Btw, I've read a few reviews of people having a hard time cleaning the shower base where the non slip strips are. Well Kohler makes a Tub & Shower cleaner. Spray that on, leave for a few minutes and then wipe gently with a Mr. Clean Magic Sponge. Poof! Gone. Rinse and it's like new again.
