I needed a new rule because my fathers circa 1950s model was showing signs of wear (numbers, marks fading) the mechanics still great! Lufkin came apart within an hour of use (of no use, waste of $17) "a better world through better products "?

I needed measure a recess in a building fascia that was about 4-feet down a parapet. I was able to set the Ruler at a 90º angle and place it into the recess to get the measurement I needed.

Easy to use. The slide-out rule lets you get very accurate inside measurements.

My father is an old school master carpenter. He is deceased. So when I needed to up my tool game, I looked to replace what he used daily. This came to mind along with the metal tape. Amazing how you don't see something until you look. I loved finding these here with the extension. Works great. Now if I could find wooden saw horses...

This ruler is ideal for small-to-medium jobs, especially when your typical tape measure bends and/or you don't have someone to hold the other end of your tape measure.

Sometimes a tape measure is inadequate for the job. This comes in handy, especially for inside measures by using the six inch brass extension. Feels substantial and seems like it will last a long time.

Since the review I wrote got screwed up, trying again. Useful item for times when a standard tape measure won't work. Especially if working alone. Useful features and reasonable price. OK Let's see if this one goes.

Absolutely great when working on a coffered ceiling. It gets done what a flimsy tape measure cannot do.

Old reliable for exact measurements.

Makes internal measuring easier especially when working alone.

There is no better way to get inside measurements. So much better than bending a metal tape.

This purchase was one of the tools being symbolic in my recent retooling, as it has a special function of an accurate inside measurement - that is transferred to a too long piece, where each side is then scribed with pencil dividers in turn and cut with a very slight bevel with a hand saw - resulting in perfect fits; with the symbolism being taking the time to do fine work. No finish carpenter should be without this nice classic tool in the box, as well as knowing how to use the "tell story stick."

The metal slider WOULD NOT WORK until I chiseled out excess wood binding the slider on BOTH of the rulers I purchased. I have an older Lufkin rule like the ones I purchased (as gifts) and the quality of the older rule is SUBSTANTIALLY better than the new ones. I was quite disappointed in the quality of the new rules and would not recommend them.

It does exactly what it is advertised to do. The finish is rough, particularly the extend/dept gauge. I guess I just expected better quality from Cresent/Lufkin.
