My New Go-To Impact and Drill
The new Gen 4 M12 Hammer Drill and Impact Driver have been really nice to use, so far. I have been using the Impact driver to drive in 1"-3" construction screws and it has become the one I grab the most since it is light weight and compact. A 4.0 battery outlasts me for the 8+ hour day. The hammer drill has performed great on masonry & stucco walls. I had skipped the Gen 3 M12s and mostly used M18 impacts and drills and the M12 Surge. That has now changed with these Gen 4 M12s and I'll probably get a few more. I was disappointed not to receive the bag that was pictured, but that does not affect the rating for the tools - they are absolutely awesome.

Most Satisfying Purchase
One of the most satisfying power tool purchases I’ve ever made. A true upgrade. Lighter tools with more power causing me to sit my m18’s to the side for a while. Installations have been more fun, faster, and depending on the project, more accurate thanks to the weight-loss. All the above mentioned then toss in the tri-LED’s… tossin’ my money right at you Milwaukee :-P

    Major design flaw
Just purchased this set today and the trigger on the hammer drill literally broke the first time I had the tool in my hand. The design of the trigger seems fundamentally poor and prone to damage. The triggers on both tools feel flimsy when in the locked position and have a lot of play, which seems to be part of why they're prone to breaking. These triggers will NOT last long term under sustained use. Milwaukee made a big QA / engineering mistake here and needs to go back to the drawing board.

      Comes with different contractor bag
Tools work great very impressed but... mine did not come with the contractor bag pictured. I actually hate my contractor bag because the zipper jams when it is zip up all the way. So far I love the Milwaukee brand because they seem to release products that have all the bugs figured out. Just bought the M18 Short Throw looking forward to that tool too.

      Terrific product, but mistakes happen.
Even great brands can make bad apples and I got my first ever from Milwaukee. The M12 Drill/Driver combo kit (Model 3497-22, Made in China) is a terrific package overall. It's comfortable to hold and use and provides so much power I won't need the M18 version very often. The driver is slightly narrower than my other, older 12V driver and outshines it in every way – literally, in the case of the 3 LEDs that provide excellent illumination of the work area. The brushless motor has three speeds/power levels and a fourth setting for driving self-tapping screws but I haven't been able to use that yet. As with other drivers the variable speed trigger is sensitive and takes some finesse to run at really slow speeds – I have often spun off the screw head when starting. The push-in-to-lock collet is convenient since hex bits can be inserted/locked with one hand but the retracting spring is stronger than on other collets and requires more force than I am used to. It's the ONLY minor complain I have for the driver. The drill represents my first bad apple – the trigger cover broke off the second time I squeezed the trigger. I'm sure it's just a random manufacturing defect. Other than that, the knurled metal 1/2” chuck is easy to operate and tighten. The single LED provides adequate work illumination but with shadows. The two-speed ranges and twelve torque settings (plus drill and hammer) give excellent power control for any task. The width from back to chuck is barely 6” (with chuck retracted) so easy to use in relatively narrow spaces. Another plus – the drill balances nicely on the flat-bottom battery pack. Both drill and driver include reversible belt clips for convenience and, to my surprise, both units hang securely even with the larger, flat battery pack installed. The kit provides more power and flexibility than most DIYers (and I daresay many professionals) will ever need

      Great tools!!!
I think Home Depot just started to carry Milwaukee tools and I think you can compare them to Dewalt drill/drivers. You can feel the quality in the tools. They are compact and would fit into tight spaces. They come with 2 batteries. 1 for long use and a smaller 1 for small stuff. The drill/impact have lights so you can see in darker spaces and nighttime. They have a little handy belt clip on both of them. Milwaukee has been around for a long time and were hard to find in stores and Home Depot gives us another option for quality tools. The hammer drill can be also be used as a drill/driver which is pretty neat. Also, the hammer drill has a torque specification.

      Awesome!
These drills are extremely well manufactured. The fit well ergonimically in the palm and are sturdy without being overly heavy. Both have visible LEDs on the side to display battery life. With the trigger depressed (even only lightly), white LEDs provide ample illumination of your work target. The impact drill has quick bit exchange pull collar while the hammer drill has an easy-to-use rotating keyless chuck lock. Both also have quick controls for forward/reverse and power. Smooth trigger depression allows for accurate increase in RPM so that you can keep the rotation fast or slow. Driving screws has been very smooth so far and haven't had any issues with screw head stripping. Both drills have provided quick drilling (with the appropriate bits) into masonry, wood, and metal. Batteries, charger, and carry bag are included. Great drills!

      Bag not as advertized
Just bought this tool kit but when I opened it at home I was suprized to see it does not come with the contractor bag advertized. I'm now double checking the drill specs to make sure I bought the correct kit. HD site says the 3404.20 has 350lb torque but the Milwaukee website say it should be 400Lb. Confusing...

        lightweight compact POWER!
I chose Milwaukee tools as my main brand after considerable research. You can verify these facts for yourself by watching test-videos or reading expert reviews like mine. When you buy cordless tools, the brand's battery platform is a crucial consideration. Milwaukee batteries consistently outperform most other brands, and always score in the top three or four. Even if you invest in uber-expensive teutonic tools, you will not get better batteries. Milwaukee power cells have the highest cold-performance ratings and longest run-time. All my Milwaukee tools still work perfectly despite years of use and abuse by three sons, one daughter and a neighbor who destroys everything he touches. Even he can't bust my Milwaukee stuff. Given that I already own so many Milwaukee tools, and that they all still work, WHY would I get these? Lightweight, compact size and even longer run-time because of the new brushless motors... That's why. I have to care for a home, a lake house, a boat, a jet-ski, three cars, one motorcycle and every appliance our family has. Since I'm often traveling to the kid's homes or grandma's house, I want a small but versatile tool kit that's lightweight. Brushless motors are inherently more efficient because they don't suffer from friction loss of brushes. Brushless motors operate by a tiny computer chip that cycles power on-and-off thousands of times per second. Between the low friction and efficient duty-cycle, good brushless motors can deliver more power with less weight. These new 12 volt tools are smaller, lighter but just as strong as many 18 volt cordless tools. So by getting new brushless tools, I save weight and space, but sacrifice nothing in performance. Other features I like... Few mention these things because they don't notice them. Trust me, once you get used to having them, they're hard to do without! The chuck on the drill is very high quality. It grips securely and is just as concentric than my fancy German tools. LARGE tab on the zipper is easy-to-use, even with gloves on. The bag has a heavy-duty zipper that works smoothly, even when new. You can make this zipper work even smoother by rubbing the length of it with candle wax or bar soap. They've improved the belt clips. Now they are easier to get on and off, but are smoother than previous designs, so they do not snag or tear your pockets. That's important when climbing up ladders. Both of these tools have battery charge indicators. That's helpful on big jobs where we need to know how much power is left. To maintain maximum battery life, it's best to not completely discharge batteries. The indicators help you stay in the safe zone. I really like the three-light system for the driver. That makes it easy to find your mark when drilling and find recessed screws in the dark. Given the consistent long-life of all my Milwaukee tools, I suspect these new brushless models will last even longer. I'll let the kids argue about who inherits them.

I have never been disappointed in Milwaukee power tools in over 40 years and this tool is excellent quality.
When you grab this Milwaukee drill, driver and hammer drill you know by the feel it is an excellent tool. It is two speed and forward and reverse, has a belt hook, a fuel gage and LED work light. Drilling capacities are steel 1/2-inch, wood flat bit 1 1/4 inch, auger bit 1 inch, hole saw 2 inch, and masonry 3/8 inch. The Milwaukee 3404-20 has drilling, hammer and drive action modes and torque settings on dial 2 thru 12. To go along with the drill driver is the m12 fuel 1/4-inch Hex Impact Driver. It is a tool of the same excellent quality as the drill, driver and hammer drill tool. It has a fuel gage, belt hook, LED work light and forward and reverse; there is three speed settings and a fourth setting for self-tapping screws. The 1/4-inch hex drive chuck makes it easy to change tools, just pull outer ring of chuck while pulling tool out and then just push another tool in chuck and you are ready to go. I'm very impressed with the quality and workmanship of both of these tools. The Milwaukee 3497-22 kit comes with both tools, one 2 AH battery, one 4 AH battery, charger and carry bag.

        Great compact set
My review of the - Milwaukee M12 FUEL 12V Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Hammer Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit w/2 Batteries and Bag (2-Tool). I got this set to replace a 12 Makita set that I had that was quite a few years old and needed to be replace. I work in a garage. I originally replaced the set with an 18 volt set from another brand but I missed how compact the 12 volt set was. The drill is quite compact, the chuck is made of all metal. The power to me is acceptable but it's not like I will be drilling alot of holes or very hard material with this. I have an air drill for that purpose. . The impact drive is very compact . It has 3 power settings and feels really well built. The set comes with a 4.0 xc battery and a 2.0 cp battery. The charger only does 12 volt unlike the charger that comes the 18 volt system . It does both. The battery life indicator is actually on the tool and not the battery. It would be more convenient on the battery. I found 4.0 battery hard to release at times. The belt clips are in an awkward position and really small. I removed them as I do not use them on any tools. All in all . Excellent compact set with some very minor issues definitely a good product

        Perfect
I myself and my wife are very happy that we got this ,My wife says it feels very comfortable in her hands and so easy to use, she had already got to use the impact drill and says to me I Love it. I just smiled...The batteries are o easy to charge and it did not take long to charge the batteries. My wife and I would like to say thank you to Home Depot and Milwaukee for this awesome product. To all my friends please go check out Home Depot and Milwaukee tools you will NOT be disappointed at all.

Milwaukee model 3497-22 M12 two tool kit is a great value with a subcompact impact driver and a subcompact hammer drill
This Milwaukee two tool kit is great you get a model 3453-20 ¼’’ impact driver and a model 3404-20 ½’’ hammer drill plus two batteries a 2.0 AH and a 4.0 AH, charger and a contractor bag. Battery charger glows red when charging and turns green when the battery is charged, both the ½’’ drill driver and the ¼’’ impact driver are subcompact so you use them in some smaller areas than other models. Both have powerful brushless motors to work and last a long time. The three led work lights help to see what you are working on. Both are well balanced light weight and have great grips to control the tool. The hammer drill is easy to adjust the torque by just turning the selector collar and the two-speed switch just pushes it to the speed needed for the work. Impact driver control is with a push button on the top the led indicators light, so you know what setting you are using very quick and easy. There is a fuel gauge so you can check the battery charge plus a belt clip to keep it handy. Get them at Home Depot

Light's on the impact is a great upgrade from the previous version. Just wish the lights were bright white led instead of the yellow true light color.

This is my 1st Milwaukee tool purchase. I had been looking at them for the compact size as I mainly do wood working. I’m very impressed with the power they have for the size. Wished I had jumped the yellow ship sooner.
