Customer Reviews for MOEN Prep Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal with Sound Reduction and Fast Track Installation

It was easy to install. Feels solid. I am concerned, initially, about a sound it makes upon startup. When I flip it on it makes a metallic clanking sound, almost like a gear is loose and makes connection with metal as it starts spinning. I'm evaluating it for awhile and may return it if it continues.

Install was 1hr :56mn: 35 sec. The previous disposal was hard wired so, done the same with this one. My first install as a home owner.

What impressed me first about this Moen EX75c 3/4 HP Garbage Disposal was how light weight it is compared to older disposals I've installed. The motor portion is enclosed in an attractive black plastic shell that may be one reason for the lighter weight of this disposal. The instructions are clear and well-illustrated. Installation is aided by the special little snap ring tool that's designed to keep the snap ring open while you're installing it to the upper mounting ring under the sink drain hole. This a lot handier than trying to hold the snap ring open with a pair of pliers while holding the mounting ring in place with your other hand. Since this house has never had a garbage disposal before, I'm dealing with a totally new installation. That means that, although there's an electrical outlet under my kitchen sink, it has no switch to turn the disposal on and off. I'll have to figure out a place to mount a switch and then wire it into the outlet. Also, I have an RO water filtration system installed under the sink that I'll have to work around when installing the disposal. Other than those issues, installation looks pretty straight forward and I hope to get it installed next week after a trip to town for some needed electrical supplies. Finally, this disposal comes with a 7 year limited warranty that makes it an even better value.

You don’t realize how nice a garbage disposal is until you don’t have one and this Moen EX series is a nice and needed upgrade to our older one. The Moen disposal is 50% quieter,grinds much better and comes with a pre-installed power cord that can be easily removed if necessary, which is what I needed to do. Although quieter, it still makes noise like almost any grinder but is still better than our prior one. It was a simpler installation than I realized and had it completed in about 90 mins. The instructions were easy to follow and whether you use the enclosed instructions,look online or need to call,all the bases are covered. It has a simple snap tool that quickly secures the mounting assembly. You can hook it up to a dishwasher by simply removing a plug and hook up the dishwasher hose. It has a powerful 1/2 hp motor with 2600 rpm. I also like the compact size which gives you a bit more needed space under the sink. This is another simple and excellent upgrade that can be accomplished in a short time and won’t break the bank. Plus it has the MOEN name and reputation behind it. Overall,very satisfied and should last for many,many years.

I replaced a 20 year old 1/2 HP disposal with this one and my first reaction was the size! This is much smaller and sits up much higher in the cabinet giving you a lot more storage space. Install was typical for a garbage disposal, but the ring clip holder made it a lot easier! The motor is much quieter than my old one and it seems to be more powerful also. It was able to chew up big chunks of ice in a matter of a couple seconds. The drain ring and drain stop are very nice and sturdy with nice gaskets to keep the water in the sink, the rubber flaps that keep food from flying out are removable for washing which is nice! Overall it has worked great and I'm glad I got some cabinet space back!

My current disposal was rather old, losing power, had a bent arm and was becoming increasingly hard to keep clean so figured it was time to upgrade. I decided to move up from a 1/2 HP to a 3/4 HP and I think it was worth it. Installation was a breeze! seeming as how I already had a disposal installed, I was able to use the existing sink mount which made the install only take 5 minutes! Granted, I was kind of bummed not using the shiny, new, Moan logo sink mount but the effort to replace the current mount was rather large. Not to mention the other side of the sink would not have had a matching drain. I removed the plumbing from both the disposal and second drain. I took this opportunity to clean out the pipes and traps (they were rather nasty). To remove the old disposal, simply take a large screwdriver and insert it into the collar then pull so that it spin counterclockwise. Be ready to catch it once loose! Installing the new disposal was easy, just do the removal steps but in reverse. If you have a dishwasher, be sure to pull the plug out before installing (makes life easier). The new disposal is quiet and powerful. I am definitely happy with the upgrade and would recommend this to anyone searching for a reliable, well made disposal.

I used this garbage disposal to replace a 20 year old one that was making a lot of noise. This one was substantially quieter than the one it replaced. It was easy to replace. I could have re-used the bracket/drain assembly that was already on the sink from the old garbage disposal-- even though it was a different brand. However, I went ahead and took it out and put in the Moen bracket/drain that it came with because it looks shiny and new. I recommend this product.

Top of the line garbage disposal. This disposal is truely above the rest. The plug makes easy work of the electrical work. Normal sound quality expected from a newer disposal. We haven’t had any issues of this not being able to dispose of food remnants. Almost Looks too stylish to be hidden under the sink. Moen is always our family’s go to brand when buying anything for plumbing.

Perfect replacement for an old disposal. It fully meets our expectations. The price was right, the unit came with everything needed (including the power cord) and it installed easily. We've only had it a few weeks but it runs quiet and smooth.

The simple thing I love the most ( besides how well it works ) is the under sink lights on the disposal. I never knew I needed lights under the sink before I got them. now I won't buy a disposal without them!

When it was being installed this product was so noisy that we immediately had our plumber remove it and replace it with a quieter brand.

This was an easy self-install. It's super quiet and not like the 1/3 hp one I had before that sounded like a freight train engine grinding. Extremely happy with the disposal. It may be unusual to love a disposal, but I do.

I have not installed it yet. I cannot truthfully rate this.

It sounds like a motor boat

This garbage disposal is AWFUL, I regret buying it 2 years ago. It is SO LOUD!!! And EXPENSIVE! It is also weak and poor performing, it even has a hard time with soft green vegetables. It also shoots water and waste and the rubber ring vertically back into the sink! I have to hold a large spoon above the drain hole so I don’t get sprayed with waste. I thought Moen meant quality? No it does not! Save your money and get a nice low priced Insinkerator brand.

Super effective and strong. My husband installed the new disposal about two weeks ago. He said install was straight forward but he did have to make some minor tweaks to the drainage pipe to make it fit right. Nothing a person with some DIY plumbing experience can’t do. The only drawback with the Moen Host garbage disposal is that it is considerably louder than our old Badger Insinkorator. Since it has “sound reduction” in the model name I wasn’t expecting it to be twice as loud as the old Badger. We called Moen and they said since this one is 3/4 HP and our old one was 1/2 HP the motor will be louder. It makes sense when you look at it that way. The Moen disposal is strong and effective, and since unlike a dishwasher or some other appliances it really only runs for a few seconds to get the job done, so I can forgive it for being louder than I expected.

Great garbage disposable. It is so quite while it’s on.

I have had several disposals over years & tried different brands at the suggestion of sales associates, but this is the loudest 3/4 HP disposer I ever had. Starts with a LOUD click also. Unfortunately I bought it, paid for a plumber to install, and then turned it on and it was horrendously LOUD. Hopefully it will at least be effective once I go to use it with food waste. Time will tell. While there is a reset button, it did not come with a wrench to clear a jam, sold separately.

Light weight, quite had a little problem with insulation but that was more my doing.
