So far I love the slow smoker attachment! Wish I had known about it on my last Master Built electric smoker. This should be marketed better so people know there is an option for better low temperature smoking or cold smoking and longer smoking without adding more wood. I added a gasket and latch to the top of my slow smoker to prevent so much smoke loss. So far I haven’t done any real long smokes but what I have done the wood lasts much longer and the wood smoke flavor is top notch. I would recommend a brochure in every smoker about this option.

Bubbling paint melting off inside smoker attachment.I was concerned about paint fumes getting in my smoker and making my boston butt unsafe to consume. I ran a full cycle of wood chips through the smoker attachment before using it the first time. It was connected for 6 hours when I noticed the paint bubbling and melting. I removed it from my smoker.

This is my third Masterbuilt Slow Smoker, so I clearly like it overall. Starting with its strengths, it allows me to smoke at any temperature I want from ambient to 275 F, thereby allowing me to make delicacies such as smoked cheese, smoked salmon, andouille sausage, kielbasa sausage, etc. Without this attachment, my Masterbuild electric smokers can't really generate smoke below 200 F. The Slow Smoker does have some pretty substantial improvement opportunities, however. First and foremost, I can't stand the little hook that we're expected to use to attach it to the electric smoker. So I Jerry-rig mine by putting them on stones and coke cans - this obviously shouldn't be necessary. Also, as mentioned above, this is my third one, even though I only have one Masterbuilt smoker at a time. The reason is that I do a lot of smoking and the Slow Smoker is not nearly durable enough.

The Slow Smoker delivers cold smoke as advertised. It also works well for adding plenty of smoke when using the Masterbuilt vertical smoker to provide heat for hot smoked meat. It does create a fair amount of creosote, so I went to the hardware store and purchased some stove pipe to connect the two units, and it collects the creosote. My only gripe is I can’t leave it alone for more than about 45 minutes; the smoldering wood chips create a fair amount of moisture, and the chips get stuck together and get stuck about halfway down the chip tube. I have to occasionally poke the chips with a long metal skewer to unclog the jammed chips. Overall, easy to use and worth the purchase price.

Works great but the paint started to peel off on the inside. It still works but it looks terrible.

I seasoned the smoke generator 6 hours before attaching to my Masterbuilt Electric Smoker. Even after seasoning the Paint turns to liquid and gave off a peculiar smell when unit is heating. I ruined $100 worth of food. My food had a unusal flavor. Tasted awful. This unit is a great idea but i would recommend stripping off all the paint and season before using. Im going back to a smoke tube and pellets in my electric smoker

The first time I used this it worked so well. I was very excited about this because it did exactly what ive always wanted a smoker to do... Just work, and work consistantly the whole way through the process. I cold smoked 8 lbs of bacon from the hogs we butchered a few weeks ago. The second go around I was smoking a shoulder. It worked very well for hours, probably around 5 hours. I went to check on it and noticed the light wasnt on on the smoke box when I was going to refill it. I switched it a few times, and it wouldent come back on.. I looked around back and this is what I found.. The unit had a complete meltdown. Im lucky this didnt arc when the cord severed because this is right up against my house and it could have easily caught the house on fire.. I need to contact Masterbuilt now and see what they have to say. I need a refund or replacement or something, it is a huge disappointment that this would happen after I waited for 2 months for this to ship...
