Does what it claims
I got three of them and so far I'm impressed with the performance. I just wired them up with extension cords, it was pretty much simple, white to white. Black to black, and green ground to housing. I would get them again.

    Easy Direct-Wire Install
Easy direct wire install. No frills fixture mounts to ceiling joists. Included electronic ballast (not magnetic!) runs T8 LEDs right out of the box; no retro; no refit; no rewire required.

Your typical fluorescent light. More expensive to replace ballast than buy whole new strip. Found $15 3' LED light in same isle that generates 20-30% more light than this, is a really nice natural bright daylight, plus has 50,000 hrs of life.... let alone not putting mercury into our air and landfills like these fluorescent bulbs do when they burn out...

I wanted a shop light I could plug in for my plants. After getting help from associate, he showed me this one, which I bought. Turns out, it has no plug in. I guess it's supposed to be wired directly into the ceiling. Since I live 50 miles away and lost the receipt I'll toss it into the trash and buy a new one where I've bought them in the past.

Easy to install. I like the new folding ends they do save some time, but it doesn't cut the time in half. I removed two fixtures from my 11 ft. workshop ceiling and replaced with these two Metalux fixtures in just about an hour and a half.

We needed much more light in our little old garage. The 2 light 8 ft fluorescent strip light is working out well. It is light weight and very easy to install. The holes did not line up with where we needed to attach it but my husband was able to drill two in it in order to hang it securely. We chose Daytime bulbs to maximize the light in the dark garage. We are really thrilled to be able to see everything now.

It gets a 5 if you have electrician knowledge but a 1 if you know nothing about electrical wiring. This fixture was hard to rate since it is clearly slanted towards the electrician/contractor rather than a typical do it yourselfer. This is a bare bones fixture. It only contains the housing itself, the ballast, and the holders for the fluorescent tubes. The lighting fixture connectors on each end rotate to make bulb installation easy which is a VERY VERY BIG plus. Other fixtures require you to gently twist and manipulate the bulb to install it. If you don’t have a gentle touch you can ruin the bulb or the fixture. That is not the case with this fixture. Installation of bulbs is very very easy. It comes in a very Sturdy corrugated cardboard box. It is not likely to damage the fixture before you take it out of the box. Screws for basic assembly are included. Some things you need which are not included are 1) Three prong cord, 2) cable box connector 3) two T12 40W Bulbs. If you are using 14-2 WG house wire to connect it up instead of a 3 prong cord you will need a junction box, or, connect into an existing box. Basic knowledge of electrical wiring such as: how to connect the neutral (white) wire, the hot (black) wire, and how to ground the box (green) wire. If an electrician were to install this fixture it would not be an issue, but the average do it yourselfer may need to turn to u-tube to get instructions on how to wire up an electrical fixture. Pics include the fixture itself with the Three prong cord and the cable box connector installed.

This is a bare bones strip light unit. No diffuser hood. No bulbs, and you have to assemble it yourself, but for the overall cost, it is a high quality unit. To install it, you must fold both the bulb clip ends up and secure them with the enclosed screws, then install the cover which is done with a quick release clip. To wire it up, you have to punch out a knock out hole and add your own wire clamp. Then you'll need a couple wire nuts because the unit's wiring is just laying inside the cover. So overall, you'll need to be able to put it together and then an understanding of wiring to wire it up. But it worked for me perfectly and the installed ballast lit the bulbs right up. A money saving tip would be to just go ahead and buy 4 foot LED tubes instead of fluorescent. You get better light, and the LED's run cheaper, and they worked just fine in this unit for me.

A great looking, simple & straight forward light. Eight feet long gives you plenty of light. A simple installation. For my application, I just used the one light. If you need more, these can be daisy chained with no issues. The install was easy and mounting the light was simple. A lot of these lights won’t work in cold weather applications. This one claims to start up to zero degrees. It’s warm here. I will have to wait until Winter to make sure. The box showed up looking like it came through a nuclear attack. Luckily, it was not damaged.

Returned. Some slight bending in box, instructions unclear regarding attaching cover so had to attach by drilling and screwing my own holes, then only one bulb would light.

      Bought 2, both had problems
1 had a faulty ballast, the other was twisted in the box. I wanted to get a replacement, every home depot within 20 miles is sold out. I am trying the envirolight 8 footer, it's more pricey but I hope it at least works.

Light was perfect replacement for light that burned up bulb connectors. Only complaint it does have a slight buzzing sound that wasn't there before. I am using led ballasted bulbs but my other lights with and without less are quiet.
