OMG! My husband bought this rice cooker two days ago and I HATE it! What a mess. Ready to drop kick it out the front door.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I recieved the 6 cup Oster rice cooker and steamer, I was surprised at how small it was. The instructions were easy to find and easy to read. You must use the measuring cup provided for optimal results. The first time I used it the rice came out perfect. My husband said it was the fluffiest rice ever. Cooking rice in a pot on the stove was never successful for me so I hardly made it but now I am able to give my family a consistent healthy meal. My daughter is 1 and this rice cooker makes rice consistent enough that she can grab chunks of it at a time and not make too much of a mess. My 10 year old and husband had seconds and there was still some left over. I also like the fact that the cover is glass and I can see the rice leftover and not forget about it. I noticed that when I use the larger rice cookers at friends houses...they have black or metal covers and it makes so much rice left over you forget about and when you go to use it again...pppphhheeeww! With this rice cooker I could make just enough for my family of 4. Now with the steamer....I tried packing as much vegetables as possible unfortunately this feature is good for steaming veggies gor 1-2 people...but it usually ends up going to one person because the veggies come out so good. So far I have steamed carrots and brussel sprouts. It makes more sense to use one oster cup of rice with veggies if you are making tomorrows lunch for work or something like that. Overall I am very pleased with the outcome and my family is happy. ***I recieved this 6 cup rice cooker and steamer in the mail for the purposes of reviewing it***and I would purchase or recommend this for anyone given that they read the instructions and USE the cup provided.

When I first received this rice cooker, I was excited to use it. The size seemed great for my family size and looked easy to use. I used this rice cooker only 1 time because there was a mold like residue left around the edge of the liner and the steam bubbled over onto my countertops, making a mess. I cooked a small portion (about 1.5 cups, according to the measuring cup they give you to use, so nowhere near its supposed capacity) of brown rice and while it was cooking, steam boiled out of the lid. The lid does not secure the liner in any way, therefore allowing the mess that ensued. When the rice was done cooking, I removed the lid and fluffed the rice a little. This is when I discovered there was a mold like residue lining the inside of the liner, now touching the rice that I just prepared to feed to my family. Luckily, I was able to pick out a few small bites so that my children had something to eat, but almost the entire portion was ruined by the mysterious mold like residue. The instructions booklet made no sense. Because I owned another rice cooker, I understood the basics. It was much more intuitive to use than the provided instructions. I'll stick to my locking, programmable, larger rice cooker. Disclaimer-I received this product as a sample to review.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This rice cooker is perfect for a small family of 2-4 people. It's simple to use and easy to clean. As long as you follow the directions to rinse your rice before cooking, you should not have any "bubble over" mess. Rinse the rice until the water pours out clear. Also, use the measuring cup provided for the rice. This cup is different from your typical measuring cup. Inside the inner pot, there are measuring lines so you know the amount of rice/water ratio. I found that it is a good idea to stir the rice one time around the 15 minute mark just to keep the bottom rice from getting a little over cooked. To start the unit after the contents are placed into the inner pot, plug in the unit and push down the "cooking lever" located on the face of the pot. Once the rice is cooked, the unit switches to the "warming" mode. The only way to turn the rice cooker "off" is to unplug it. The power cord is a little on the short side, but it wasn't a drawback for me. The instruction booklet covers the needed information, but I wish it included some recipes. There was only a timing guide to steam various veggies. I give this Oster rice cooker a 4.5 star rating!! Its a great little rice cooker. Need a replacement rice pot and lid. Please inform me how to obtain replacement parts for this. Great cooker. Definitely recommend.

We bought this rice cooker about 10 years ago and it has served us well. It's the perfect size for our family of 4, with plenty of leftovers. Simply pour in the amount of rice you want, rinse it until the water comes clear, and then fill it with water until the water comes to the first knuckle of your index finger above the rice. Perfect every time!

Every time i Cooke rice in this product it burns… I follow the exact steps too.

This product works great to cook the rice for the most part. However the rice at the bottom gets burned to a orange color and I was wondering if it’s normal for the steam to steam over the pot top? Water sprays and steams over the edges creating a mess.

I'm a former marine scientist. I'm used to titrating and mixing and stirring and cleaning test tubes, hitting exact temperature points and following lab directions. Ive always stunk at making rice- brown, long grain, organic, jasmine, field, STICKY... you name it- it always comes out "UNDEFINABLY HORRIBLE" ...and Human error don't cover it. Sticky is mostly the description of the eaters. Sometimes it's bone dry. Directions on the rice bag say one thing, the rice cooker says another. WHO do YOU Believe? And if you go deeper, it appears some KINDS of rice require more water in that ration than others... IS the FACT this is so CHEAP responsible for ruining every RICE Evening? I can cook a chicken. I can cook a Pig. If you handed me a Horse (Chevalier?) I'd cook it AND its brains like a fine 5 star Michelin French Chef. This rice cooker is a JOKE. The rice ALWAYS sticks to the bottom of the rice pan, the rice is NEVER cooked like Uncle Ben cooked his. I VOTE this thing is JUNK.

Followed instructions including rinsing rice. Both times the rice was scorched on the bottom. Why? Super disappointing

The non-stick surface is flimsy and peels off easily. Low quality bowl that makes the product useless after several months of use.

The rice cooker is exactly what I wanted; brand name, size and color. I had an Oster rice cooker that lasted me forever! I hope this one does too!

Stop working after a month.

This is as handy as a pocket on a shirt! I stream whole potatoes instead of baking and the inside is soft and creamy. The veggies take very little time to cook and retain their lovely color. I've made rice one time and it was perfect, fluffy and perfectly cooked. I bought this as a gift for myself and should have had one years ago. No regrets here.

I bought this rice cooker about 2 months ago and really feel like it’s a total waste of money. The rice develops a dark crust on the bottom every time I use it. Total waste of money.
