Very powerful as advertised making it easy to cut through high weeds, etc.. That being said, though, it is difficult to change positions from horizontal to vertical. Also the bump mechanism doesn't work as advertised - had to manually advance string. Company should go to an auto spool - replacing a spool was easy and the amount of string on the spool lasted a long time on my previous string trimmer without the need to now have to measure and cut 10 ft section and string it through eyelets making sure there is an even amount from the two eyelets - and then manually winding it onto Ryobi's spool - waste of time and effort.

I replaced an 18V "automatic reload" Ryobi trimmer with this 40V "bump and feed" model, which I really like. Noticeably more power. Eats through much less trimmer line. The edger is great - much faster and easier to use than my dual purpose edger/trimmer. It's a little difficult to change attachments - but I expect that to get better with some additional lubrication and time.

This is way lighter than the old one and got more Ah, 4.0 vs 2.0. The bump head is still the same old one and still problematic.

I have purchased this one twice because it's cheap. the 1st time it only functioned for like 6 10min-long works and completely non-responsive after 6 months. the 2nd time it survived about 10 10min-long works until strong plastic smell coming from the motor. I think the motor burned. very disappointed about the quality. don't buy it or if you buy it, keep the receipt. I threw away the 1st receipt but kept the 2nd. I went to home depot and they said I need to contact Ryobi directly. stay tuned.

The power is not equal to the gas engine Ryobi that I own. The battery said up to 70 minutes of power and the closest I have seen is about 40 minutes. I had to buy a second battery so I could do my yard work in a day. Overall a good concept which I think they have plenty of room from improvement.

I purchased this product after having great success with the blower. It lasted me about 3 months before it caught fire. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, bought another. I didn’t use it even 3 times before the motor burnt out, it would spark and lose power.

Spool jams often. Very difficult to remove head cover to change spool. Poor design. Frustrating.

I am clearly having the same issue that many people have had with not being able to figure out how to unlock and unlock their string head when their string jams or you want to load new string. You shouldn’t have to watch so many YouTube videos made by people who aren’t Ryobi and use things like WD-40 or little screwdrivers to try to manipulate pieces of plastic in order to open a product. You also shouldn’t have to be a heavyweight arm wrestling champion to be able to something like this. I am hoping to get a response from Ryobi themselves telling me exactly how the heck I am supposed to do this.

String trimmer worked well until it suddenly wouldn’t start. We used it maybe 6-7 times and now the motor is burnt out.

Of the many products I have purchased from HD, this may be of the lowest quality from a performance standpoint. It really doesn't do a great job stimming and I relied on the customer comments before purchasing. I am utterly confused by the favorable ratings: 2-3 Stars best for me. I have used about 10 to 15 times.

I was helping a neighbor weed eat their lawn and I was using this product for a solid 30 minutes meanwhile as I was using the product my left arm started feeling warm , I set the trimmer down for a few mins and went back to my business and it became warm again, this time after about 30 seconds I smell burning and I look down and the motor combusted into flames, fire went for a few seconds and then the trimmer went up in smoke This thing ran like a champ, but I will be buying different product

Do not buy if you have arthritis or weak hands (I have both). The trim head is impossible to open and it has been that way since day 1. "Just line up the arrows", right, if only. I've watched online videos but they haven't helped much. So, here I sit with a malfunctioning unit and stuff growing all over my yard.

Had one before. Really like it.
