The Best 1 gallon Battery Operated Hand Spreader on the market.

This Ryobi cordless spreader is light weight, efficient, and very easy to use. It is a lot more comfortable to use than my walk-behind spreader. It covers a lot of area very quickly and efficiently. It uses any of my Ryobi 18-volt batteries. I bought this one for my son, now I'm going to get on for myself.

    Ryobi does it again
Another great Ryobi product! I am very impressed, I bought it to spread salt for the winter. It’s easy to use and adjustable. I have a 3 car wide and 5 long. I walk down the middle and it does the whole driveway in one pass!

        Fast and Fun
it works great !!! I saw my neighbour using a similar one but is hand powered. He ended up spreading the seeds by his own hand. Glad that I bought a electric one. My Daughter loves to help me spreading seed by using this although is a bit heavy for a 5 years old girl.

Adjustable feeder door does not work!
So tired of receiving defective products. This spreader has an adjustment knob to select how much product is delivered to the spinning dispersal wheel. It doesn’t to a thing! The door is wide open and will not close. Junk .

            Don't Forget to do this . . .
Stay mindful this spreader has an electric agitator but a manual door. Once you've set the door opening and activated the agitator, press harder on the trigger and the door will open. It's not broken.

              Spreader gate stuck wide open
I own 10 Ryobi 18v tools and figured this would be perfect to help rehabilitate a new to me lawn. After getting half my product down I made a change to the setting and the spreader gate is now stuck in the wide open position. The (bad) design of the unit allows some of the fertilizer to get in the cracks and cause the gate to stick. I can’t recommend this tool! I will be returning it promptly.

VERY disappointed ( Trap door would NOT open )
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First use attempt, the trap door at bottom would NOT open at ANY of the dial settings, I had already opened a NEW bag of insect killer material, filled the bin and it would NOT disperse ANYTHING. I then dumped the material, and located a youtube review to see if I could determine what was wrong, I learned the trap door at bottom of unit SHOULD move relative to setting dial settings, mine did NOT. HIGHLY suggest BEFORE yo fill the bin to see if this operates as should.

                  Great quality!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this once it’s available in Canada. Canada has the best price in the world! Pretty durable (still working after falling couple times in ice/snow days) , easy to use (attach the battery, hold the trigger), 5 different spread speed, pretty powerful motor, biggest tank on market. I picked this after compare it with Other brand like Scxxt or “Garxxna” or “sxxjoe” Great addition tool if you have 18V ryobi one system!

Bought this to spread fertilizer, weed n feed etc. Had an old hand crank one that makes your wrist hurt. Used this with my new 3Ah battery and spread 10,000 Sf of fertilizer in about an hour. You just press the button, can't get any easier and it isn't too heavy with full load and battery, every so often I would just switch arms and I was fine. Works great, five stars as long as it remains durable which I have only used once so can't say but this was well worth the price in my opinion. Sometimes the fertilizer does clump and you have to shake the unit as you are spreading but this is not a problem with the spreader just the nature of fertilizer itself, make sure you break up any big balls or clumps once you pour it in and if spreading diminished just shake the unit around a little. The controls are all simple hand controls and work as intended, easy to use.

I normally use a drop spreader for adding fertilizer to my lawn but the new Ryobi cordless power spreader takes about 1/4 of the time so it is my new go to tool for getting it done. All you have to do is fill the hopper, adjust the pattern slide on the front, adjust the dispersion setting on the handle and pull the trigger. It is literally that easy. I just fertilized my lawn today in less than 5 minutes. I had the front adjustment wide open which makes a 180 degree pattern. You can adjust the slide on the front so that it will go all the way down to a 90 degree, 45 degree or even smaller pattern as needed. In the instruction book it shows you which setting to set the knob on based on the size of the fertilizer pellet you are dispensing. I set it on a 4.5 setting and it was spot on for the size of fertilizer I dispensed. I thought at first that I had a defective spreader because I was pulling the trigger and nothing was coming out. Come to find out you have to fully pull the trigger to open the little slide in the bottom of the hopper otherwise it spins the wheel but it won't dispense anything. This spreader does tend to throw the fertilizer quite far so I did have to go behind it with my leaf blower to blow the fertilizer off my sidewalks and driveway but all in all it was worth it for how fast it goes. I could have been a little more cautious with my pattern setting but I was quite happy with running it with the front wide open in a 180 degree arc. Ryobi has done it again with another innovative product. It is great to see them coming up with new ideas for tools that can be added to the 18 Volt One + market. I have a lot of Ryobi products and this is another great one for the collection. If you are a homeowner or a professional landscape company this spreader will make your job much, much easier and faster.

Finally had a chance (excuse lol) to try this. A few things to note first, I have a very small yard...maybe 1,800 sq. ft. if you count everything. I didn’t want a huge push spreader to keep in my garage all year to only use about 4 days of the year when feeding my lawn and I already had a similar spreader that you have to turn the crank. The problem with the one I had before this one was it was impossible to crank the handle at a consistent speed so that it scatters the material in the hopper at a consistent rate. With this product that is not a problem as the motor seems to stay at a constant speed scattering everything pretty evenly. The only downside to this product is it does not have the same amount of adjustment numbers as Scott’s has on their bags of fertilizer, so that will be a little bit of trial and error to get it right...having it spray out at a constant rate is more important though I think. It also has an adjustment that adjusts how wide the spray is. This was perfect for what I used it for. I had a few small ice spots on my walkway this morning so I filled this up with calcium chloride ad hit my walk and driveway and the 3 AHr battery was more than enough even in the cold. It shot out the pellets perfectly and I could adjust the width so it was perfect for my sidewalk. If you use it for this, just make sure you rinse it out VERY well before you put anything on your grass! All in all it is a wonderful addition to my Ryobi tool lineup if you have a small yard or just want something easy to hit your icy walkway and keep your gloves on!

Since it's winter, I used this spreader for spreading ice-melter, and it worked great. It's somewhat difficult to keep it from spreading things too far (a motor speed control would be very helpful), but I found that I could control the range with how far off the ground I held it. I am looking forward to using it for fertilizer as well as snail/slug control pellets, as that will save me a lot of rose-bush encounters as well as getting in and out of flower-beds. Overall, it's very well-made. I like how it can be cleaned with a hose - similar items from other vendors can't handle moisture without damaging the electronics.

Seems like time really passes so quickly these days and before you know it Winter will be gone and Spring will be here. If you seed your own lawns or lawn areas and use a hand spreader, this 18 volt Lithium-Ion spreader is powered by any one of the batteries in the One+ series. This is sold as a bare tool so if you dont already have any of the One+ tools, batteries and charger be sure and pick that up too and your on your way to owning some of the most versatile and powerful cord free tools on the market today. This spreader has multiple settings to assure your distribution is at the required rate for the seed your spreading and its one gallon hopper gives you plenty of seed to spread before the need to reload. Its a tad heavy with its battery but it is very well balanced, comfortable and easy to use. It makes a good deal more noise that I was expecting but that really does not matter when your outside working. Before spring arrives if I need to I will also use this to spread Urea on the walks and driveway

If you have hand or shoulder issues and still like to fertilize your yard -- this is your tool! I really like it because while slightly heavy, you don't have to lift your arms up and crank it with your hands. If you have a bigger yard, you already know seeding and fertilizing can be taxing on your shoulders and hands working the crank and holding it upright. With this tool, you just scoop your fertilizer, seeds, pellet mulch or whatever you want to spread and turn the dial to the desired setting and pull on the hand trigger. The dials are from 0 being closed to 5 being open full sized. For me, I spread a grain size gypsum in the yard on #2. If I were using a pellet mulch, it would be on #5. Depending on your grass seed coating it can be a #1 or #2. You can also set the range/degree of spread area on the side. There is a piece that narrows or broadens the spray area. The only issue I had when starting was that when you squeeze the handle to initaite the spreading, you may not be doing it hard enough. It will turn on with just a gentle tug. But to open the shoot at the bottom of the bucket, you have to actually squeeze it all the way for it to open up. The battery is an 18 volt Ryobi. It lasts a long time. I used it in the front and back yard for 10 minutes and it went from a full spread of lighted power (fullest charge) to just one light less. This 18 volt battery can work with other 18 volt tools from the Ryobi line. If you have a nagging shoulder injury like me and holding a manual spreader brings on aches - this is your tool. And if I were to be doing this the really old fashioned way of holding the bag of seed/fertilizer - no more back aches - with this machine either. This has a limited 3 year warranty.

I know this is usually used to spread fertiliser and seed. I might even use it for that sometime in the future. But what I use it for is to spread salt. It does a great job of spreading salt evenly on the sidewalk. This is a good thing because I have a cornet lot, and 180' of city sidewalk to take care of. One battery is more then enough to handle that, as well as my driveway, front steps, and sidewalk. I can adjust the feed rate for the amount of salt needed for conditions easily. I had been using another hand-held spreader that ran on 4 AA batteries. It worked most of the time, but was not as powerful as this one, and would sometimes jam. So far, I have not run into a problem with this spreader. But it hasn't been tested at temperatures around 0 degrees yet.

Most lawns need fertilizers, grass seed overseeding, iron and other types of mixes and using your hands is not the most efficient way to apply. This lithium battery spreader by Ryobi really makes it easy, effortless and kinda fun to use. Sometimes a push broadcast spreader is the way to go but often a handheld is perfect. This Ryobi one is easy and simple and although turning a manual one is not difficult, this battery driven one speeds up the process and has a push button on/off on the handle to give complete control. It is a bit heavy, especially once you fill the hopper with intended fertilizer or seed, but not enough to cause discomfort. You will need to already have the RYOBI ONE+ 18v battery, but it is interchangeable with RYOBI 18v products. This spreader doesn’t take up any more room that a conventional manual type but just makes everything easier. Works well and easy to maintain.

Very comfortable ergonomic design is easy to use. I'm not a big fan of fertilizing my lawn so I don't have a push spreader. I still needed something for occasional grass seeding, throwing out ice melter, deer repellent, etc. The really old hand-cranked spreader I owned was awkward since you had to hold it out in front of you, support the weight of the stuff you're spreading, and turn the crank. The Ryobi lets you keep you hand by you side with your arm straight down, kind of like carrying a suitcase. Holding the trigger flings the product away from you without spraying it on your legs. Easily adjustable dosage setting dispenses the right amount. When the trigger is pulled, the motor turns on and a sliding trap door opens. An impeller in the hopper spins to keep the product moving without clumping while a slotted wheel below throws the material out. There's a handy shield that flips up on one side in case you're going alongside a driveway or building so the stuff just goes where you want it to. The best part is how easy it is to clean. Just remove the battery and rinse it off. Note: There is NO battery or charger included, just use one of the One+ batteries from your other Ryobi tools to run this.

This small Ryobi 18 V spreader is fantastic. Fully adjustable from just a sliver of a hole to more then a 1/2 inch. So you can spread many types of fertilizers, grass seeds around your yard. You can get into many hard to get to areas. I have 8700 sqf. of land with several embankments and small out of the way areas. This spreader allows me to get every where That I need to get to. I love it, it's very light and holds about a coffee can size of product. The Ryobi batteries last along time.

ONE+ 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Spreader I like the RYOBI 18-Volt ONE+ Cordless Power Spreader that is easy to use spreader to spread seeds or fertilizing my lawn with it’s battery to plug in. It is not heavy to carry it to spread to my yard. All I do is to pull the trigger. I had it for one week & used it one time. Easy for a lady to use it. There has the flow rate to control distributing with an adjustable knob and lever easy. It is a large one gallon capacity tub to fill up seeds or fertilizers. Also, 3 years limited warrant.

                    • This Ryobi seed spreader looks to be well made. You can adjust the distribution opening from 0 to 5. In order to have the opening come open you have to depress the trigger quite fully. If you just press the trigger part way only the distribution wheel spins (which would help keep seeds or salt - if you're using it as a salt spreader - from clumping up at the bottom.)

                      Great autospreader
Zero issues first year. I use it professionally, often on 10+ houses per working day and it's a beast. I swap out the battery (1.5ah to save weight) once a month and never out of power. It is always critical to clean an autospreader often, but I had very few issues with jamming. One caveat is this thing is HEAVY and has a hard trigger pull. You can use the limiter knob to apply evenly or get a feel for the trigger and adjust it as you go. It has massive range and is a blast to use.
