The glaze can was very well secured in the package and there were metal clips on the lid to ensure it didn't become opened during transit. Directions on the can were very clear and easy to follow, but it required that the glaze be put on chalk paint, so I had to buy a can of chalk paint. I painted a picture frame with the spray chalk paint, let it dry completely, then applied the glaze, again letting it thoroughly dry. I was surprised when I opened the can of glaze because it only needed a couple of stirs. It didn't appear to have separated at all. I used a small throw away brush since the surface of the frame was rough and applied glaze on one area at a time. I found that to get the effect I wanted, I needed to let the glaze sit a little while before wiping it off. It was easy to wipe off with cheesecloth and I could see that you could easily achieve any effect you wanted from very light to much heavier. The glaze was easy to work with and I was very pleased with the results.

I've refinished kitchen cabinets, bookcases, wardrobes before using the much more expensive (& only available in specialty shops) Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (available in chalk, pre-mixed or powdered form) & feel in love with the ease (No sanding or priming needed) of completely making over furniture & cabinetry in a very short period of time. Have half a day? Redo your kitchen or select furniture for a whole new look. I had read reviews of Rustoleum's fairly recent advance into chalk paint & decided to give it a try. I'm VERY glad I did!! Same basic usage as Annie Sloan, same to very close overall finished coverage. Can dilute as necessary for different "aged" appearance as you can with Annie Sloan. Overall, Rustoleum is now my go to brand for chalk paint & I look forward to the addition of more colors & local availability without having to wait for order to arrive on more diverse colors than beige or gray. Definitely recommend for anyone else timid about leaving the dependable & expensive Annie Sloan line!

This was so easy to use. I covered a very old conference room table. I even used a roller brush on the second coat because I was pressed for time. I didn't give it 5 stars because it took two coats to cover completely. But I am so pleased with this paint and at a fraction of the cost of others. I am onto a desk now with another color!

I used this product with Rust-oleum charcoal chalk paint. The area that I started had dried for a week. I started to apply it to the trim of the cabinet but noticed the charcoal paint was starting to come off on the brush. I thought it might be coming from the previously used brush, so I got a brand new one. But the same thing happened and it actually stripped the charcoal paint off in one spot. I stopped covering with this and noticed when it dried it left white areas. I really like the the finish that this topcoat has and I want to use it. What am I doing wrong? I used a high quality synthetic brush from Home Depot (Trylon thin angle). Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the feedback! Please keep in mind that the Chalked paint should dry for 2-4 hours before applying Rust-Oleum Chalked Matte Clear Protective Topcoat. We recommend sanding the coating, wait 24 hours, then try again with a recoat. Rustoleum

I purchased this product to use on a wooden rocking chair I wanted to do over. The label said no prep easy to use. I thought Perfect, I'll save time sanding or de-glossing and just get to painting. This paint was so think it was hard to apply without getting brush marks. It was almost chunky. I did 2 coats and was not happy with the result. I ended up going over it in grey and did a shabby chic route with the white popping through. I would not buy this paint again. I do love their products, but overall I didn't care for this particular paint.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Shelley! Prior to applying Rust-Oleum Ultra Matter Chalked Paint, it is essential to thoroughly stir the can prior to use. If painting in hot, dry conditions, the paint can be thinned with up to 2 ounces of fresh water per quart to help extend the dry time. Rustoleum

Wonderfully amazing! Just painted my first piece of furniture (bed frame) with chalk paint and was going to wax it, but had reservatiins because I read that over time the wax needs to be reapplied. Well, that was not going to work because the bed is for my son and his first apartment and no way, no how was he going to ever reapply the wax. I am so glad I found this protective coat, because it worked great. The finish is still matte, but it is smooth enhances the color. I will definately be doing more projects with this product! See my photo to see the sheen..I missed a spot on my first coat but fixed my my second coat..no one can even tell.

I believe I didn't use this product in the manner which was expected...I should have only used this on a piece which was painted with chalk paint. I thought it might work over my enamel based piece.. it really didn't do anything except make the finish dull - see photos. Now if the difference was great when using it over chalk paint, I'd have to say it's my fault for not using it the correct way! I am going to try it over chalk paint next to see if it is more effective. And maybe I should have stirred the product better than I did! In any case, I was disappointed to see it really didn't work on my piece.

Very pleased, overall, with this product. It went on rather smoothly. I still have over half a can left and did two coats on this cabinet. Sealed it with wax, and it's good to go! I do see brush marks on the top surface. I didn't brush it on too thick, and the other chalk paint I've worked with settled more evenly... But the color is nice and it had good coverage. Would recommend.

This chalk paint is very creamy and smooth. I would compare it to Amy Howard or Annie Sloan for consistency of the paint and ease of use. The Linen is a very bright white, not an off white. I expected more of a beige, like other Linen paints. I would definitely use the wax or glaze products over the paints to achieve desired finishes, just because it is so bright. I am more than pleased with my finished product. Great price per oz. I do wish Rustoleum had a larger selection of colors. Highly recommend.

Great product. Beautiful finish. Goes on easily and has great coverage. This product goes a long way. I have done a large table base and legs, 4 dining chairs and bench, a large desk with chair and a two drawer file cabinet and have only used about half of one can. I'm looking forward to my next project . This product proves that getting a beautiful chalk paint finish doesn't have to cost a fortune.

              Worked Perfectly
I followed the instructions on the packaging of the Topcoat after spending two days painting with the Aged Gray chalk paint and the project turned out beautifully with no varying results. It has made my dresser-turned-tv-stand durable especially with a messy toddler.

I just spent the last 2 weeks refinishing my cabinets and all 25 doors. They look AMAZING! I am 100% sold on the Rustoleum Chalked product as well as the Matte Clear protective topcoat. Both went on very smooth. I wound up doing 3 coats of the chalked paint, but my cabinets and doors were in horrible shape. I used 2 coats of the protective topcoat, because my kitchen takes alot of abuse. The best part is how fast it dries! Once I got to the other end, the beginning was dry and ready for another coat. Then being able to sand to a smooth finish was a bonus. I love love love this product! Everyone who has seen my "new" kitchen is jaw dropping amazed.

This stuff is the bomb.com!! I used this on my first chalk paint project and the finish was incredibly smooth. I primed the bare wood with Zinsser BIN Primer and used a synthetic brush to paint on the Aged Gray Chalked Paint and finished with this and it turned out like a DREAM! So glad I tried it VS waxing/buffing! I certainly recommend this product.

                    Beautiful Color
I've stayed away from chalk paints in the past as there seems to be an ongoing issue with whether or not to wax. I feel waxing takes away from the whole idea of using a chalk paint which is supposed to be a very flat finish. Enter Rustomeum's version of chalk paint. I found is to be very durable after even the first coat when sanding to achieve a rustic finish. It's not necessary to prime, but it is necessary to clean all oils, etc. and some some light sanding. However, if you want a very even coat and your item has some finish issues, I would recommend either priming or sealing after sanding. If you do this, your paint won't drag on the unfinished sections. Two coats are definitely needed for full coverage. Dries fairly quickly, in fact, make sure to finish one surface completely or if you can't, wait till it's dry and do the next section. In the two examples below, I used the charcoal color as a base and then Modern Masters metallic paints (orange and pharoh's gold) to add accents.

I painted a hall table to resell, and this paint is definitely not worth it. The paint is hard to put on smoothly, although it did look ok- it definitely needs a primer and a sealer. I used rustoleum matte clear finish, which 'bubble marks' on the surface, and thinned out the paint (I did one thick coat which was originally fine) so that it took on a brownish, streaky appearance. Rustoleum paint was an expensive disappointment, both in time and money.

Let's talk about this, Laura. Please keep in mind, when applying over a bare wood surface we do recommend applying a primer before applying Rust-Oleum Chalked Ultra Matte Paint. We recommend using Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Based Primer and Sealer. This helps ensure an even finish and proper coverage. We do recommend applying with a high-quality synthetic brush and using light even strokes. If using Rust-Oleum Chalked Ultra Matte Clear Coat, we recommend waiting at least 8 hours before applying.

                      good chalked topcoat
This Rustoleum Chalked Topcoat is a great topcoat to achieve chalked look on different kinds of painting projects. This is the first time I have used a chalked paint and since lately this has been a hot trend, I think I will keep using it on other projects. I applied this topcoat over chalked paint and it looks like it enhanced the chalked finish. This topcoat was easy to apply; I used a foam brush and I liked the its consistency, it was neither too thick or too runny, perfect to achieve an even application. It dries clear although it appears white in the can. It dries quickly, and it is easy to clean with warm soapy water. Good product, recommend to anyone.

                      Dries clear!
Great product from Rust-Oleum, perfect for applying topcoats/finishes to your projects. I used it with their "white linen" chalk paint and am impressed with the finish. I applied 4 very thin coats to my bedside tables. Our bedside tables end up collecting multiple things, so I wanted a thick finish. I used a 220 grit between each application. In addition to sanding, I also used an air compressor and a "sticky cloth" to help remove paint dust. Failure to do so could cause some discoloration. However, I have had absolutely NO yellowing of my white bedside tables. It has a nice matte finish with no gloss, just what I wanted. They look amazing! I highly recommend applying thin coats, allowing sufficient dry time between coats, and a light sanding with cleaning of dust between coats. Definitely give this product a try with your next project!

                      Beautiful and easy to use
Wow, this is great paint!! I like chalk paint because it can be easily applied to most surfaces and looks good alone, antiqued, or with a finish. I ended up using this paint to repaint my bedside tables and all I can say is that it looks fabulous! My bedside tables top surface was already stained, so I ended up painting over it with this white chalk paint. I then waited 30 minutes and sanded it with 150 grit paper and decided to add a second coat (though it wasn't needed). I then waited an hour and used a 220 grit paper to sand the edges until I got my desired rustic look--and I am impressed. It looks awesome! I sealed everything up with the Rust-Oleum Ultra Matte chalk clear. I would HIGHLY recommend the use of a primer because this will prevent the need for additional coats and allow for proper surface preparation. I also used this paint on my Ikea Lack black coffee table and had no issues! I sanded the table first and did not use a primer. I only have one chip in my table, so I'd say that this paint has held up. I'm pretty impressed. Next time I will definitely use a primer to help.

                      Great Finish
I've been hearing a lot of great things about chalked paint, so I thought I'd use it on a small project I was doing for my laundry room. I had a bunch of knobs that I wanted to turn into a hanging rack. I thought the wood would look nice in serenity blue. It does! I used two coats because the first coat was streaky. The second coat looked great and then the clear coat made for a beautiful and easy project. The clear coat is a MUST for a finished look that won't feel chalky. Don't be surprised by how thick and white it looks as you apply. It dries clear. It did go on easily, dried quickly, and left a nice finish. I am very pleased with the results.

Forget the priming just one coat of this paint is what I needed
We were thinking of changing the color of a trunk we have in our library and we wanted to make it look distressed. This paint did not need more than one coat, its matte so it looks nice the trunk was painted white so I didn't need anything else other than the paint. it was easy to paint and enough for my project. Rust-Oleum has good paints and I've enjoyed different projects whit their paint.

                      Perfect finish
I make a lot of frames for family and to sell. I thought i'd try this chalk finish, Wow i like this a lot. It is a true one coat application. i did a quick frame for myself to put a picture of my grand daughter and myself in and tried this paint for the finish. It is a thick paint but brushes on easy. I had a somewhat stiff brush wanting to see some of the brush strokes in the finish I'm very impressed with the outcome. This has a high end finish outcome. Can't wait to try out other colors. I will be making more frames and use this for the finish. I have a quick video of the application below, see for yourself

Great value, a nice soft white.
My wife and I have refinished several pieces of furniture over the years, and the best overall paint for this wound up being chalk paint. The problem is for a while, there was pretty much just Annie Sloan brand, which worked great but at $35-$40 a quart, was a killer. This stuff works great, covers REALLY well in two coats and almost covers in one, with no primer needed. I got this to refinish a twin bed that was a cream, yellowish color, see the pics for before and after. If I'm being honest, the sloan paint is better than this, but NOT 2.5 times better, and certainly not enough to not buy and use this for any refinishing needs. The linen white is a very "fresh" white color, not too bright white and not too dull.

                      On trend and so easy
Genuinely a one-coat product, but painting outside at 95 degrees and a ceiling fan going made it dry too fast, so I sanded it smooth and put a second coat on, fan off. Instructions say to add water to slow dry time--I probably should have simply painted it at night, but it was a chair for my kids, and they were eager to paint. The finish is fantastic. I don't know how it will hold up to constant handling, but as easy as it is to apply, and as quickly as it dries, who cares?!?! Just cover bad spots. Sanding it with 400 grit paper made it look and feel amazing! I may give it a month or two, then sand it a bit to get rid of spots instead of recoating. Great paint, easy application, great adhesion (so far), and no need for waxing or varnishing. This is the look without the work. Chalked paint is supposed to be easy, and finally with this paint, that is true. Avoid the real stuff that takes tons of fussy steps after painting. My wife has asked me to paint her childhood rocking chair after seeing how nicely this chair turned out, and it was painted by our kids. That is a huge vote for this product!

I used this on the interior shelves of a pantry where I wanted a more durable surface than wax. The interior was painted with Annie Sloan chalk paint. This polyacrylic goes on clear matte (no yellowish color). The coat dries fast and goes on with minimal bubbling. Best of all, there is no toxic fumes.
