This is a re-brand of the former Rust-Oleum Restore Roller. The Restore roller came in a 12" wide roller used for placing texture to deck surface for traction using their "Restore" (or now, their Rock Solid) texturing finish. However, I learned a great trick from a person online from a remodeling contractor. When patching or adding drywall next to existing drywall that has an existing orange-peel texture, you can use this roller to get a matching texture with out spraying from a hopper or can. If doing an entire new room, then a hopper orange peel system makes sense. However, if adding or doing small jobs in a finished room (like remodeling), this works awesomely! Let's say you put a new section of drywall. After taping, mudding and sanding (2-3 passes), I usually also skim coat the flat papered areas too so that paint looks and absorbs evenly compared to the plastered areas. Next, water down the mud to about half consistency. Roll onto the wall vertically back and forth. After a few minutes, roll horizontally back and forth. The more you roll, the finer the texture becomes. If you find that the texture is too thick, add water to the mixture. OR if the texture is too runny, add mud to your mixture. Once you reach the texture level you like, leave it undisturbed to dry. Once dry, take a wide putty knife and run it up and down over the texture to knock off any sharp or raised texture. It should be noted that the old restore roller was 12" wide. I cut off the roller to make a 9" roller and 3" trim roller. This was perfect. Now, the rock solid roller comes in a 9" version. I bought a second roller and cut off 3" to make a trim roller. Lastly, after using the original restore roller on a bath remodel room, a number of small projects and a large garage remodel, the roller texture membrane started to come off in pieces. Finally, the roller membrane started to separate from the cardboard tube in the center. However, this was after LOTS of use. If texturing a deck using the Rock Solid texture, I am sure you could do three large decks easily without issue.

This is my 2nd time using Rustoleum Rock solid roller on my patio deck. This roller is great in that it provides a beautiful textured finish which is good at hiding wood flaws and exposed nail heads.

This roller is terrible. It didn’t hold paint very well and it didn’t roll out the paint evenly. I had to switch to a regular paint roller, which worked great.

Thank you for reaching out, Ken! The Rust-Oleum 20X Roller Cover is intended for use with the RockSolid 20X Deck Resurfacer Coating. We do not recommend it for use with other coatings, as they will likely not be thick enough for use with the cover.

That's not what we expect to hear, Pam! For the best results with the Rust-Oleum RockSolid Deck Resurfacer 20X Roller Cover, it is essential that the cover is kept well filled between bases.

Worked great. Would have 5 stars except the it “splatters” when rolling which caused a bit of a mess as there was splatter everywhere.

The roller is a plastic coated material that doesn’t soak up any paint/stain. It kind just smears it. I took mine back and used a 3/8 regular roller

Thank you for reaching out, Jim. The Rust-Oleum RockSolid 20X Roller Cover is intended to be used with our RockSolid 20X Deck Resurfacer. The roller cover is designed to be used with the ticker paint to help apply it. We do not recommend it for use with other thinner paints and stains.

We appreciate you sharing your experience, Mark! The Rust-Oleum RockSolid 20X Roller Cover must be used with the 20X Deck Resurfacer to ensure proper application of the coating. Make sure your paint tray has a good amount of paint in and that you are rolling with downward pressure.

Great texture. Per the painter they soaked up a ton of product though and they thought a regular roller would work better

We appreciate your feedback! Rust-Oleum RockSolid 20X Roller Cover is designed for use with the RockSolid 20X Deck Coating to help apply a thick and even coat. The roller does need to be fully saturated to help best apply the thick coating.

Let's talk about this, Amy! Rolling too fast will cause paint to splatter during application. You also want to ensure that the Rust-Oleum RockSolid 20X Roller Cover is properly loaded up and used with the recommended deck coating.

Buy more than one, or avoid this product altogether. I only bought one for a small deck project, and it started to fall apart after rolling just 40 sqft. Only about 20% of the nap was left on the roller by the end of the project, and it left little bits embedded everywhere in the deck paint.

That is not what we like to hear! Our RockSolid 20x Deck Resurfacer Roller Covers are designed to hold up through the application of several gallons of our RockSolid 20x Deck Resurfacer. This coating should be rolled out slowly, without a lot of pressure, as this can cause the coating to spatter, and will also cause premature damage to the roller cover. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

Does a fairly good job of covering defects, but not the 1/4" crack the manufacturer claims. I would say about 1/8" cracks would be more accurate. Certainly better than just plain stain, what Rustoleum now calls 2X. I have a problem with Rustoleum sending 3 barrels, 2 of which were the correct color, and 1 that was not. I would use it again as it does make an old deck look better. A bit over priced.

So far this product is everything it was supposed to be. It went on thick and covered really well. Time will only tell if it lasts as long as it should. I used it on a small 8'x8' back deck that is fully exposed to all the elements including full sun. Nothing else has lasted long on this deck so I am really hoping that this product is different.

The roller only made a mess of things, splashing paint all over the siding and us and leaving a textured look behind. We ended up having to follow behind each pass with a brush to smooth it out and fill any cracks. We ended up switching to a thick paint roller instead. Save your money.

We think we have figured out what was happening here. If our RockSolid 20x Deck Resurfacer Roller Cover is causing the coating to spatter, the rolling speed must be reduced. This roller cover is designed to be used by slowly rolling out the RockSolid 20x Deck Resurfacer, and should not be used like a normal paint roller in a rapid back and forth motion. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

We appreciate you sharing your experience, Lori! Rust-Oleum RockSolid 20X Roller is intended for use with the 20X roller only to ensure the coating is applied thick enough. We do not recommend it for use with the primer.
