Though a loyal Scotts customer for decades, I cannot express how disappointed I am in this product and their customer service.
I had a Scotts Speedy Green spreader for years. I recently gave it to my daughter for her first house and decided to splurge and pony up the $100 at Home Depot and treat myself to an "Elite" spreader.
Only 2 applications in, it seemed to be working well. On my 3rd application last night, the axle disengaged and it quit working altogether. I couldn't believe it, but assumed I had gotten a faulty single unit, and wanted to give the company an opportunity to remedy the situation.
I immediately called the customer service 1-800 number on the spreader. My rep Ivan was friendly enough, but clearly new nothing about the product or how to resolve the mechanical failure. Let me be clear...I wasn't looking for money. I simply believed Scotts would do the honorable thing and stand behind their expensive and "Elite" product and send me out a replacement. There was no interest or apparent ability to do this. The only solution offered to me was if I wanted to "cut cables off" of the existing spreader and mail them to them (yes, I'm serious), they would review the claim and likely send a refund. Shame on you Scotts! This is horrific customer service for such a large and seemingly reputable company. In quickly reviewing other posts on this spreader with former customers having the same failures, it is now clear that this product should have been immediately pulled from the market as soon as it was released. The design is cheap and flawed and will not last.
If they are committed to asking people to cut up their spreaders and send them back to them, I assured them I would do the proper thing and warn everyone I could not to make the same mistake with this company or their flawed product. Buyers shop elsewhere! Todd C.

First and foremost the product itself is 5 star. Its great tooling around the yard with it. However, Scotts royally screwed up. In an effort to avoid making sure you can use non-scotts products you have to rely on them to get the right spreader setting for the products you use in it. This is generally ok for scotts products not even then not always. A number of scotts products do not list the elite. A few do and have the same as the deluxe and then another few also list elite but recommend half. This is basic physics here, the ratio between the elite and the deluxe should be a constant and yet shows upwards of 100% difference between two scotts products. This tells me that there was NO thought behind what the spreeder settings should be and even less of a care about supporting this extremely expensive model. Listen if you dont care about knowing what setting to use then this is the unit for you, everything else about it makes it worth the money, but if you are like me and hate the idea of using anything in it for the fact you will not put down the right amount, look for the basic model to ensure best support.

Poor quality sums it up. I bought this spreader at the end of the last lawn season (September 2018), with the intent to use it this year. I opened it up yesterday, and assembled it. It seemed to do a good job until about halfway through my yard, when the spreaders stopped spinning. I spotted a piece of a metal pin on the ground, which ended up being the pin in the wheel that drives the spreaders.
Now it looks like I have to waste my time finding a screw or something to put in place, since I can't find my receipt from last fall. I don't see how the engineers could have designed this without noticing this weak point in the assembly. It's likely they DID notice it and just didn't care. What is so hard about offering customers a quality product and still making a profit?
Bottom line: buy the very cheapest spreader you can find, or spend more for a REAL quality spreader, as this is definitely not an elite spreader. I am truly disappointed in this spreader.

The Elite 72 in. Broadcast Spreader by Scotts is an outstanding spreader. I am very satisfied with it. It will broadcast just about anything you can put in it up to 6 feet wide to make any project go fast and easy. It can hold enough product to cover 20,000 square feet. Scotts says it's their best spreader ever and I believe it! I live in the mountains of Idaho and this spreader makes short work of laying down ice melt in our driveway and yard. The tires are foam filled so you don't need to worry of flat tires and being 10 inches it is very easy to get around even in rough ground. Setup out of the box is super easy. All you have to do is mount the tires which takes all of 5 minutes, if you work slow! And if you can not live without your smartphone it even has a holder for that.

Avoid this like the plague!! Nothing but plastic that didn't hold past the second application of fertilizer. The cotter key that connects the one wheel snapped off after the first use then on the second use the spreader flow setting wouldn't allow for proper adjustment. Then just to add insult to injury the handle that opens the flow doors broke off from the handle. It has a rivet holding the cable thus you can't make repairs. Totally disgusted with this unit.

An excellent residential spreader. I have about 5,500 sq ft of St Augustine grass and this spreader is perfect, not only for my size yard, but it can easily handle a much larger area. Assembly was simple, attach the wheels, unfold the handle and tighten the wing-nuts, set the distribution rate, fill and go. It took me about 25 minutes to assemble and do a quick test run on the front lawn. I really like the distribution settings, it can handle a very fine broadcast to very coarse (2-15 in half increments). It has an edge guard along the right side. The guard is controlled by a handle mounted, cable lever, easily controlled while spreading (no stopping required). It holds lots of product, is nicely balanced, easy to use and the wheels are a nice size that can easily handle tall grass, rough spots in the lawn, etc. This spreader has a large broadcast pattern which gets the product evenly distributed quickly. It's a nice upgrade for me from my tired, dated old spreader. I recommend this product.

It is perfect for seeding or scotts fertilizers...I used it for a 10-10-10 fertilizer from a different store... Granules were bigger and heavier...I filled it up 50 lbs and it was really heavy to push with the little tires...after the first bag it stopped dropping , it got stuck and I had to dump all the fertilizer ..tried to fix it but I couldn't...mechanism that adjust the setting is not working anymore...it is a very stupid spring system and i believe heavy load and big granules caused it to malfunction .. now i need to buy another spreader...

This new Scotts Elite spreader is really great to due to several new design features:
- two impellers and four outlet holes to get the fertilizer out of the bucket faster (see picture)
- wider 10” tires (see picture) that were very easy to install and that work well over uneven terrain
- a new edge guard (see picture) that flips out on the side to block non-lawn areas
- well-designed large bucket for the fertilizer so it feeds well into both impellers – no flat spots
- large, easy to use control (see picture) to adjust flow; just turn the orange knob
I only needed to install the tires with two cotter pins, insert the two hubcaps, and then flip up the handle and tighten two large plastic wing nuts (see picture) to get this spreader up and running! This is far better to use than the single impeller with one outlet hole I had on my old spreader – well worth it to upgrade! It comes with a handy chart to adjust the fertilizer flow for the whole range of Scotts lawn products, from seed and fertilizer to even ice melt, so it is a tool you can use all four seasons. I highly recommend it!

This is my third Scotts brand spreader and by far the best one. I started with a drop spreader and that worked ok for my small yard. Then I got a Scott's Mini and that worked much better. Now that we have a large property, this Elite spreader is perfect. It pushes well and holds a lot of product. I just finished putting down a couple hundred pounds of pelletized lime on the yard with no problems. The wide spread pattern shortened the time considerably compared to the mini spreader. I even used it to spread agricultural fertilizer on the clay knobs in one of my hay fields. It worked fine for that too. Price is in-line with other larger spreaders.
