Won't start
Third season for this blower and it just quit on me. I have a small yard and it worked fine for the first two seasons . Can't get it to power on or start. We bought the toro because of the luck we had with our toro mower. Sorry to say no luck with the blower.

This product allowed me to clean up our yard in a very efficient manner. With the powerful blower along side a powerful vacuum makes quick work of cleaning leaves

lightweight powerful machine, Blows leaves away
Excellent leaf blower, I have not used the vac because I have a professional unit that does that. This unit moves leaves, sand and small rocks to clear sidewalks, porches/ decks and parking areas. Works wonderfully. When I need another poser yard tool, I will get a Toro, no bull

The variable speed switch has failed after two seasons of use
Machine used to blow and vacuum leaves from a small yard for two seasons. The first indication was erratic failure to shut off. Then the machine would not always run at full power. Now it is hard to find a setting where it will run at all. Find a spot where it runs and try to hold the position steady. And it turns out you can't buy a replacement part.

Read all the negative reviews: SWITCH FAIL!!!
The switch fail is a very common problem with this blower. Just like all the others, the 1st year the blower ran fine. 2nd year the blower stops turning off. 3rd year, blower power fluctuates and doesn't run at full speed. This is a safety issue that a lot of people are having. There needs to be a recall. Unfortunately, it appears that customer support is now just referring customers to service centers so we can pay to repair their bad switch design.

              Toro Blower/Vac 51599
This is the 4th yr I've run the daylights out of this unit & it's still going strong! On the "Neg" reviews I'm c-ing the very same problem, "Switch" stops working shortly after using. The "Switch" prob is more than likely caused by operator error! How is this possible? U CANNOT use a cheap drop cord when using anything that's electric. A 16/3 cord will not cut it! U'll burn something up 4 sure. U've got 2 use a quality, 14/3 cord, min & even then if it's a 100ft cord U R using & ur going out in ur yard 100ft from the receptacle, then U need 2 use in conjunction with your 14/3 cord, a H-Duty 12/3 cord that U plug this cord in 2 the outlet 1st, THEN plug the 14/3 cord in 2 that cord. Just 2 B on the safe side, I always plug a HD 12/3 cord in 2 the outlet 1st, then plug 14/3 in 2 that 1. However, if U R going 2 try & go way beyond a 100ft (like I have 2 at times) I use 2, 12/3 cords instead of the combo 14/3 & 12/3. That way U won't burn the switch or the motor & U'll get many yrs of use!

We appreciate you took the time to share your kind comments! We did want to remind of the importance to not only use the heavy duty outdoor cords, as you noted, but be sure the wire gauge is right. Your Owner's manual will always tell you the correct wire gauge, depending on the length of your extension cord. We do not recommend connecting multiple extension cords and/or to extend to distances greater than 150 feet. It is essential to firmly “seat” the extension cord into the plug of the machine. Failure to do so may result in sparking or smoking at the connection. Your Owner's manual will tell you how to safely secure the extension cord to the product. Many of our Blower/Vacs have a cord lock feature built right into them for your convenience.

Switch Fails -- No replacement for switch by Toro
Same symptons for switch like many on the internet: First, the blower will not turn completely off (keeps spinning)(12 uses) In the 2nd Year the speed varies up and down. Today, one has to turn the speed switch speed back and forth continuously to get 1/3 power.... Toro sells replacement parts for everything except the switch. Our previous Toro metal impellar lasted at least 10 yrs. The blower is totally useless with out the ability to replace a simple part, otherwise in great shape.

We appreciate your letting us know what happened. The Toro Company does not supply replacement parts for electric motors (including the switches) which are used on our appliance products because we are concerned about your safety and the electrical hazards that may result during the repair process. If the unit fails during the 2-year warranty time period we recommend contacting our dealers to access warranty consideration. To locate a dealer nearest you, please visit us at www.toro.com/dealer.
                  Works great until switch fails
I see several comments on switch issues. I have had mine for years, lot of use one/two times/year to clear/mulch leaves from my previous driveway and area next to it. Mulches great, except when it sometimes sucks in too much. Once cleared, back in biz. However about the second year the switch no longer turned the unit off. It would have to be unplugged. Recently (2 years+) it was used to blow leaves off driveway and blow/mulch small back yard - again one or two uses per year. Today while blowing a very small backyard i smelled burning and saw smoke coming from the plug/power cord connection. I figure at this point it is toast. Unplugged the unit right away and also unplugged power cord from the socket. Would i buy it again? Perhaps, if there is guarantee that the issue is fixed. Would i bring it in for repair? Not likely - past warranty and again it is probsbly toast - wouldn't want to pay to repair it, if even repairable - probably cheaper to buy a new/different one.

Response from Customer CaseNov 9, 2016
We are very sorry to hear what happened and want to help! The cause of burnt prongs or plugs is typically a poor connection between the receptacle on the end of the cord and the prongs on the product. Reasons for the poor connection could be defective or poor quality receptacle on the cord, under-sized cord, failure to plug the unit in completely, failure to use the cord lock or tie the cord to the unit or a worn-out receptacle. If the extension cord is damaged it must be replaced or have the end replaced on the extension cord. The receptacle may not appear to be damaged, but it is. The owner's manual will provide additional details on connecting to a power source.
                    On/Off switch die
This is my second Toro blower. The first blower little after the warranty expired died. The switch burned out. The second blower same issue with the switch, at least the warranty did not expired yet.

                        Poor switch design
The infinitely adjustable switch failed. There is not a part available to replace this switch. That's probably gonna send me to another brand. My unit is only 3 years old. It worked great, did what I wanted done until it didn't.

                          Poor Quality Zipper on Bag
I had two of these leaf blowers and I like how the mulch the leaves down but I now have two bags with broken zippers. Toro might spend an extra nickel and put in the heavy duty zipper. I bet most would pay an extra dollar to get a zipper which would hold up.

Great blower while it worked. It is out of warranty and the speed control module has failed. The speed jumps all over and will not shut off. There should have been a recall on this model.

                                Landfill fodder
I've had this blower for about two years. Today, the plastic rotary switch that turns it from off through several speeds to high, stopped working. In fact there is no off anymore. I have to unplug it to turn it off. Another fine landfill product from Toro.

Works well but the variable switch has issues
I love this blower. It is powerful and balanced so it isn't too heavy. The vacuum works well and is a real time saver picking up leaves. The only issue I have is the variable speed switch keeps failing. I have owned 3 and everyone has had this same problem. Toro has stood behind their warranty and replaced these so I can't complain.

                                  Powerful. Handy. works great.
Surprised by the amount of power. Chops great. Blows great. Seems well built for heavy duty plastic. The only negative I can really think of is the power cord is very short - a foot or so - and occasionally comes part way out which causes it to arc and smoke. Tie the cords in a knot so this doesn't happen, and problem solved.

                                    Pretty good, except
I had this blower for about a year and a half and it does a good job of blowing leaves, and cleaning cedar needles off my patio. It struggles to vacuum/mulch wet leaves, however. Something we have here a lot. Although I suspect any vacuum, except the big truck-mounted ones would have the same problem. What's really annoying is that about 6 months ago the power rheostat decided to stop shutting off completely, so to shut if off I have to unplug it. AND, I can't find a place to order a new rheostat, so there is no way to fix it.

Great power for blowing and vacuuming
I like the idea of the metal impeller. It chops up small twigs very well and significantly compacts a pile of leaves. Like many other reviewers I have problems with the variable speed control. When I turn it down, the machine will go to slow speed but not turn off. I have found that if I tap, or hit, the speed knob it may, or may not, turn off. Very intermittent and not trustworthy. Note to designers: Use a three, four or five position mechanical rotary SWITCH vs a variable control (potentiometer).

bought this unit about two years ago, first of , i use it to collect the fallen leafs in my rock gardens , it has some serious suction, what i liked about it , it has the metal blades , fills the bag up fairly fast , i just dont like corded tools , but aside from that , i have started using it to blow out my pool lines , well it certainly has the power for that , all in all , so far so good, , and bought it on sale for around 69 dollars plus tax , its already paid for itself

                                          Toro ULtra Blower Vac
Purchased this vac approximately one year ago because reviews rated it high and it had a metal impeller. In General its a very good machine with utilitarian features. Used this quite frequently during the leaf season in Florida. However , I encountered two problems which appear to be too common with this machine. First the shoulder strap holding the bag during leave gathering broke and put an end to my collection. Toro could fix this problem quite simply by increasing the strength and amount of stitching at the point of connection. Secondly the power adjustment control will not shut off and I have to disconnect the power cord to stop the machine, A Problem. Several other review have noted this same problem. I gave this a two star rating and if these two problems were addressed and solved I would have given it 5 stars. I'm surprised that Toro hasn't read some of the reviews and addressed the problems.

I have used it to remove debris from all my perennial beds where I don't want the plants damaged or the soil disturbed. I use the mulch that's produced around all my broad-leafed evergreens to insulate their shallow roots for winter.

I bought a red one, brand new. Works fine in my little yard for leaves/gutters/Douglas fir needles. Next-door neighbor bought one. Buddy owns a black one. Mother owns a black one. Sister owns a red one. No complaints on the blower part, but the "leaf vacuum" part is a joke - toss the bag and pick-up chute out and use it as a blower. I've had mine maybe 4 or 5 years and I beat the heck out of it and it still runs fine. Extension cords are a hassle, but it beats mixing gas and oil and hassling with a 2-stroke engine. BIG bonus: it won't drive your next-door neighbors crazy!!! * warning! if you yank the cord out of the outlet, be sure to turn it OFF before you set it down on a gravel driveway!! #ask me how I know this# *

First one had a loose screw rattling around in the motor housing so took it back and accepted the replacement without thinking twice. Second one worked well for about 15 minutes, but then wouldn't switch off. Took it back and got my money back. I won't consider buying a Toro product again.

Seemed to work OK picking up leaves between bushes, otherwise it constantly either gets clogged or takes forever to pick up dry leaves in the open. Looking for a snowblower for upcoming winter months and now I know I won't be getting a Toro snowblower after buying this waste of money.

Ensure the blower opening is not being clogged with sticks and the blower tube has been cleared. You are correct in making sure the leaves are dry before trying to pick up the leaves. Have the blower inspected by your local authorized Toro dealer if you have further issues.
