Denver home projects (we are dry or it rains a frog strangler here). Material is a 3 layer fabric - very strong. specs state the fabric is "0.5mm" which is about 19mils (average trash bag is .9 to 3ml thick). Used it for weed barrier under heavy rock bed that allows roof downspouts to drain to street, garden path with breeze (decomposed granite), and for raised bed french drain wrap to protect drain and rock sieve from soil infiltration. I have used this product in the past; this barrier holds up well over years, allows drainage/moisture flow but block weeds from below. Use lots of U shaped fabric pins to hold in place (edges and middle of cloth) and over lap fabric rows by 6-12 inches (depending on slope or flat). Advice: Never, never use landscape cloth under mulch/bark bedding (mulch breaks down into soil; mulch should be 3-4" deep which will deter weeds while holding soil moisture/nutrients). Also, avoid cheaper thin fabric that tears easily and does not stop weed penetration. I recommend this product for any landscape project.

Product is fine, but dimensions not as advertised. These rolls are not 100 feet long. They are approximately 95 feet long. My yard is 49 feet so one roll should cover two passes and have 2 feet left over. They were about 3 feet short of doing that.

If you do not cover the 100 % with dirt or sand, the gray fabric shows. I covered it with rocks and had to put more stone on top of it so the gray fabric could not be seen. Black worked better even though it was visible, it looked more natural.

I had a big time drainage problem in my back yard. We had a new retaining wall installed this year & I was seeing tremendous amounts of water cascading over it. My big concern was erosion of the footing. So I dug a trench, lined it with Vigoro 4 ft. x 100 ft. Matrix Grid Landscape Fabric, installed a 4 inch perforated black pipe & filled the trench with 82 bags (4100 pounds) of gravel. I hope to divert any water coming off the hill in the back of our property to the existing drainage system in front of the wall.

I removed my small front lawn and placed this barrier down before covering the area with rocks. I used this product previously for a smaller side yard project and it appears to be holding up well after 6 months. It allows water to pass through without ponding and definitely keeps the weeds down. I will update my review after more time has passed to rate its durability.

Much lighter than I expected, tears easily with edge of shovel or with a rake. Not sure if it will prevent weeds from growing, too early to tell. I had a landscape company replace our grass with rocks, but they used very low quality weed liner... which was overtaken by weeds from underneath the liner! I left the old liner in place, laid the Vigoro over it. I left a minimum of 6" overlay, the rocks secure it in place.

This is a good heavy duty landscape fabric. The reason for the low score is that the 100’ roll was less than 94’ long. I rolled the fabric out on my shop floor and cut precise lengths to fit inside a wooden framework so I know exactly how much I used. I triple checked my measurements. The mistake I made was that I stapled each length into the wooden framework before I cut the next one. After cutting 4 pieces 19’ 9” long, I had a 14’ 6” remnant. I went to Home Depot hoping to get some money back or maybe even a free 50’ roll to finish my project. No dice, HD requires that you return the defective product to get anything done about it. I’m not going to tear out my work. I’ve bought a lot of stuff at HD but I won’t be going back unless it is my last resort.

It's too soon to tell how well it will hold up over time but this was less expensive than the other material available in the same quantity. It cuts easy and lays fairly flat so you can apply what ever topping material you need.

A couple of my neighbors commented that landscape fabric will only work to suppress weed growth for a couple of years, but in both cases I found shredded, very thin, black plastic barrier in their yards. So I spent more money to buy what I hope is a premium product, the Vigoro 3-layer Matrix Grid landscape fabric, then waited for the bobcat to drive all over it before writing this review. The East side of my house has an incline that almost tipped the bobcat, but even under this condition, the Vigoro fabric did not tear while the bobcat dumped tons of 1 1/2" stone on it. In fact, the fabric held up for the entire 2,000 s/f job with no resulting tears to repair. I was very impressed given the torture we put this fabric through. Installation was easy. The fabric laid flat on the ground and cutting and pinning went well. Yes this fabric does cost a little more than other brands, but in my personal opinion it will be money well spent if my yard is weed-free ten or twenty years from now. One can only hope!

The 4 ft. x 50 ft. Matrix Grid Landscape Fabric is the best landscape fabric I have ever used. Super strong and easy to work with, will not tear by hand so you need a razor or scissors to cut. I will be using it in two places, one for under a rock pathway and the other in my garden. Sick of weeding the garden, so from pictures, you can see I added some fertilizer and mulch before covering and then added some wood chips. The bare spot is where my asparagus grows. Had some pesky weeds in there that kept me busy all last year, so we will see how it goes this year.

This item is a four-pack of an item I previously reviewed. This bulk pack is currently priced about 10% lower than four single packs. The product is substantially better than anything similar that I have used, and although instructions suggest a covering of 3-4 inches of mulch to prevent ultraviolet light damage and to obtain the longest possible product life, I have not yet done so. I have not seen any deterioration or penetration by weeds. Quality and durability of this product far outweighs any pricing premium over cheaper, inferior products.

As you can see in one of my photos, I used the fabric this summer to lay pea gravel over a sand base. I followed the directions which was to remove or kill the grassy area first. This is a step not to miss as no fabric is really non-permeable to stubborn weeds. The good thing about this fabric is that it is thick but breathable, so water flows through it without standing. It creates a nice base for mulch or stones. It is easily trimmed to allow plants to grow within the fabric area. This package is superb with 1,200 square feet.

The Vigoro 4 ft. x 50 ft. Matrix Grid Landscape Fabric (4-Pack) is the what you want to get now for your gardens. Its winter now while I am using these to keep weeds from sprouting up before my spring plantings. I recommend the 4 pack since I always fail to have enough and have to go back to Home Depot for more to finish my job. If you have leftover you know you will use it again. It comes in a perfect four pack. This works very well and is very well made compared to similar products. Save money and get what you need with the four pack. In the Spring when I get ready to plant I will just cut in my holes and plant.

I had a concrete sidewalk poured and needed to create a flowerbed. I used the Matrix weed guard to keep weeds and grass from coming back. I first killed the grass with a weed killer a week before I installed the landscape fabric. While I presume the grass will die, I stretched out the landscape fabric to my desired length cutting slits in the fabric where I had pipes coming into the flowerbed. As my fabric was 4' wide and my flowerbed was 3', I just folded over the excess 1' instead of cutting 1' off the whole length of my flowerbed. I then put rubber mulch over the top of the landscape fabric. I'll likely install some plants in the spring.

This Vigoro landscape fabric looks to be the best quality product of this type yet. It is made up of three layers. A non woven top layer, a matrix grid core center layer , and a non woven bottom layer. Even though you cannot see the core layer, the fact that there is this technology for a higher quality makes the performance that much better. Other landscape fabrics are polypropylene that end up falling apart with the UV rays. This one is UV resistant. These are large rolls. Four feet by one hundred feet each roll. They have four hundred sq feet in each roll. The package contained four rolls. It will cover a very large garden area or can be saved for another year or project. Buying this four pack saves money. Single and smaller rolls are available at a higher price per sq ft. The installation of this fabric is about the same with most landscape fabrics. Just unroll on the ground, use pegs, pins or rocks to hold it down, and cut where the plants will be with a box cutter or scissor. Mulch can be used on top. Now, all we have to do is wait for spring!

Really strong landscape fabric. I got it caught up on a bush branch and there was no tearing, but it still cut easily with scissors like the thinner fabrics do. I put it over an area with heliconia that had pierced cheaper material. This isn't a thin plastic like other weed barriers it's an actual fabric, so i feel pretty confident it will hold back the stronger unwanted plants/weeds.

Really good landscape fabric is not cheap. THIS is the best I've used so far. The weave is tight, yet lets in air and water to keep the surrounding plants from choking out. It's thick, but easily cut with scissors or a sharp knife. In addition to using around my yard, I will also be using this in a cemetery restoration project, topped with marble chips on grave sites.

Perfect for what I needed! This is one tough fabric and it is UV protected. The lifetime warranty gives me the confidence I will not be pulling this up along with a bunch of weeds in a few years. I have used a lot of different methods to control weeds in the landscape. Forget black plastic. It does not breath and keeps the water from getting into the soil. I like Preen but the wife won't let me use it anymore since her chickens like to scratch in the mulch and she does not want her chickens eating the Preen. I really like the heavy black landscape cloth and have used it to keep dirt out of foundation drainage systems. This seems to be every bit as tough as the black stuff, is permeable (I tested it) so air and water can get through and it is gray in color. I am using this to put border of river rock around a house. I dont like weed wacking up next to the house and I dont like mulching up to the house itself since over time the you add mulch and it just gets too high. Too close to level where the framing begins. I know someone who did that and when I went to refinish the hardwood floors, I found termites! That where the gray comes in. I hate walking past a bed of landscape stone only to see the black plastic or fabric showing through. Sometimes its envitable but at least the gray won't be such a stark contrast. I also have an elevated deck and plan on using this in the spring to keep the weeds at bay there as well.

We were looking for some heavy duty weed block to place under crushed gravel for a path on our property. I chose this product first for the color, as it would match the color of the gravel should any bare spots show up in use. Secondly, we needed something that would hold up for years of use under the gravel, and not shred from foot traffic. This fabric is very thick and sturdy, so I'm pretty convinced it will do the job for us. Much thicker than what you'd find at other discount stores - definitely feels professional grade.
