Poor materials. Broke just after the warranty.
When storing the unit after the season the tab holding the hose securely snapped off. Contacting Whynter customer service was not helpful. They stated the part is not replaceable. Nonsense. You made the part once. Send me that part. I will install it myself. They further instructed me to run the machine with the hose not secured. Unsafe, and poor customer service. Not an inexpensive unit and appears to be made with poor materials and no company support behind it.

Hi there,
Thanks for your feedback on your air conditioner. Based on your description, the hose connector was not removed properly which led to the tab being broken. It's not that the part is not replaceable but that it is a difficult part to replace. Please contact our Customer Support Team, available Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM PST at 1-866-WHYNTER (1-866-949-6837) and at support@whynter.com so we can assist you. Whynter
The product with the dual hose cools the room
I have used this product for a few weeks now, the dual hose cools a rather big room really efficiently. The double hose allows one hose to throw outside the warm air and not throwing outside air that was already cooled. One con that I have found is that the cool air is only thrown upwards, and even if adjusting the air outlet it still goes up. To conclude, really good product, cools a rather big room which was the goal for buying this product.

      Our First Portable A/C
Our 14K window unit died last year. Was looking for a different option than lifting another small truck into the window again. Read a lot of reviews and decided on this portable unit. Was concerned with leaking, so took others advice, especially the review by MBiker on July 15, 2019. Lifted the unit up on some bed lifter legs I had (the drain on the unit is really low and the unit has to be raised to drain into a pump). Then I put everything in a plugged drain pan. So far, so good.

        Excellent Unit
We use this unit to cool the house in the summer and heat the house when temperatures are 45° or so. I’m surprised how well it heats our family room and kitchen area. We like the product so much we bought a second a few months later. I modified the window unit because our windows are so large. Notice I added a stand so that the water can drain into a bucket. My only complaint is that is a bit challenging to install the flexible vent pipes.

Cutting cost of whole house air conditioner.
Super easy to install all I had to but was the window insert wood to set up the intake and exhaust.

Big improvement over single duct portable units
Having been disappointed with single duct portable AC units that create a negative pressure in the room resulting in poor efficiency and performance, I switched to this unit. Does a good job of cooling a room that is about 22'x20' (7.5' ceiling) that has a southern exposure. The fan is noisy, but better than my old unit. Word of caution: the window mount is flimsy and the plastic flex tube is inadequate for handling the hot exhaust. I replaced the exhaust tub with an insulated 6 inch flex duct, and replaced the window mount with 10 inch PVC trim cut to the proper size.

Poor build quality, lousy customer service: AVOID!
This is a review of the Whynter model #ARC-14S... Avoid! 1) Whynter uses poorly-made parts to put it together. For a "portable" air conditioner, these tiny plastic wheels are absolute garbage. They crack under the weight of the ARC-14S. The water tank easily cracks due to vibrations and then leaks. The compressor easily overheats. 2) Lousy customer service. Before you buy, call them to ask a question and see for yourself. 3) Energy hog!

              My Whynter ARC-14S Works excellent
At first I was little skeptical when I first got it going, because it didn’t right away cool off my room, but I do have vaulted ceilings and it gets pretty hot up here in the San Diego Mountain Cleveland National Forest area, but after a couple hours, it cools down my room pretty well, and not that dry air cold, that sucks the moisturity of your body, but a nice comfortable coolness that I love, which my wife noticed as well.

                Awesome unit
This brand works as advertised… I live in Arizona and purchased a unit and put it in the living room of a mobile home. It gets very hot here but this unit has the ability to cool a 500 square-foot area to the mid 70s and 80 when we hit 115 or above…(it’s a dry heat) tried to purchase a second unit but everyone was sold out this summer. Will definitely purchase two more units and save between 7000 and $10,000 instead of a heat pump. This product is the real deal. Highly recommended For extreme heat areas

the unit does not stay on AC, 5 minutes cpld, 20 min of fan than pushes the exhaust heat back in the room. I am so angry. I put this in my yoga studio. My student suffered! Taking it back after 2 days

                    Great AC unit
It was easy to install and works great just make sure you put intake hose on bottom of window kit so you don't suck up hot exhuast air from exhaust tube hot air rises ! I had to wrap a towel around exhuast hose due to heat and used aluminum foil and tape to defect air flow.

                      Really love this AC
This Whynter unit is so much better than another brand we bought and returned. The set up was easy, it accommodates the larger window opening we have, and does a great job of cooling. We especially like the lower noise level of this unit, which doesn’t have the annoying vibration our other brand had. My wife likes the appearance, as do I. We also like the fact the blower shuts off when it reaches the temperature setting. I would recommend this Whynter AC.

Installed in our travel trailer as a supplement to our roof air. We live in Arizona and this portable, combined with the roof air, is able to keep our trailer comfortable. Don't believe however, that the portable alone could keep up over here but neither can the roof air. Because the outside temp is so high (116 right now) I let the return air draw from the inside. Had to modify the window exhaust because the provided piece doesn't work well with our windows. Wasn't a big problem and works great.

I purchased this AC a week ago at Home Depot online it came in on time. It’s a bit heavy, very well put together definitely good quality. But it didn’t cool my room enough. And my power in the house kept shutting off every time turned it on. I called Home Depot and they were very helpful sent me a return label and told me they'd come pick it up for the return. Love Home Depot’s customer service!

The main problem with this air conditioner is no matter where you adjust the "flow director," most of the cooled air will go up, and not out. Use this deflector and you can direct the majority of the airflow. After adjusting the slide adjustment to the unit's deflector width, use clear packing tape to secure the sides and you're ready to go! When installed, you'll only be able to open the air conditioner unit's "air deflector' to the second vent opening, but that's OK because most of the air usually went directly up anyway!

Dear Readers: We despise the recirculated air from our building's overhead A/C system. We purchased this Whynter Air Conditioner to cool our small condominium. With Whynter dual-hose set up, the Air Conditioner pumps fresh air from the outside. When we first set it up, we were disappointed by its performance. The room temperature plateaued to 73F. Based on recommendations by several customers, we decided to wrap the hose. We made some improvements to their designs. See our photos for more details. Supplies: Gorilla Duct Tape, White Reflectix FT210 2" x 30' Foil Tape Reflectix DW1202504 Spiral Duct Wrap Duck Brand Replacement Air Conditioner Foam Filter Camco 11400 Water Heater Pan Little Giant Removal Pump with 20ft. Tubing (optional) Install the Water Heater Pan: Based on expert reviews, these Portable A/C units will leak water, sooner or later. Place Camco Water Heater Pan underneath the A/C unit. Install Foam Filter inside the Intake Window Vent: Intake Hose will suck outside dirt & dust into the Air Conditioner. This will degrade performance of your machine. To prevent this, cut the Duck A/C Foam Filter and place it inside the Intake Window Vent (shown on the right-side in photos). Insulate the Intake/Exhaust Hoses: Both the Intake and Exhaust Hoses transfer hot air. Cut Reflectix Spiral Duct Wrap into 24" pieces. Tightly wrap each hose using Reflectix Spiral Duct Wrap pieces (with ~1-2" overlap) and secure with White Gorilla Duct Tape. Be certain there are no holes where the hot air can escape. For cosmetic reasons, cover the Gorilla tape with Reflectix Foil Tape. (Optional) Install Condensate Removal Pump with Tubing If you live in a humid environment, you may need to constantly drain the A/C condensate reservoir. Install Little Giant 554415 Automatic Condensate Removal Pump. Split the tubing into two pieces. Attach one tube from the drain port to the Little Giant Pump. Then attach another tube from the Little Giant Pump to a faucet or window. Now, the Whynter A/C will automatically drain itself. Results: This installation took us about 2 hours. When we switched on the A/C, we immediately noticed improved performance. Room temperature dropped to 67F and was going lower (compared to 73F without proper insulation).

Pros: Shipping to Home Depot is very helpful. The unit met my expectations an more. It was well packaged. The actually cools three rooms. The filter strained out 4th of July smoke from fireworks. The enabled us to run the unit all night. Finally, the unit is very quiet. Cons: Tabs for the hose connections on the unit side are weak. One snapped off, so I had to fuse it with a bonding agent. I would suggest disconnecting the window side connectors when removing for the winter.

I was pleasantly surprised that from the time I opened an account and placed the order, it was delivered here to nowhere MT in seven days at no additional charge. The only qualms that I had, were the bulky, obtrusive vents.

I really like this air conditioner. However, I pushed the square footage that this is recommended for plus the high temps here in AZ. It will keep my garage fairly constant while running continuously, if I start it up early enough in the day. But when the mid day temps are high, it struggles and can't keep up. Since my garage doesn't have windows, I had to jury rig the tube mounting. It worked out nicely and fit easily between the 16" on center wall studs. See photos. The packaging was somewhat inadequate. UPS doesn't do well with heavy objects. There was some Styrofoam in the bottom that was broken up, but the unit was not damaged in anyway.

after years of sweating it out through the summers we finally decided to buy a portable AC and after much research settled on this one. it works well and keeps the living room and kitchen comfortable. as for the noise some people mention, I find it no louder than a window unit. the unit is larger then it appears in the listing, no problem though, as long as I'm cool I can live with the monolith for a few months. would recommend this unit .

I bought this AC to supplement the existing heat pump on my 3rd floor. The heat pump can never keep up during the summer and the Whynter AC has been working awesome for the past few weeks. I only turn it on when I'm on the 3rd floor so it takes about 30 minutes to cool down from about 85-90 degrees down to about 72-75. I would recommend this to anyone as a much cheaper alternative to a split unit.

This product is a disappointment for me. I need a cooling solution for my office which is about 15 foot square and 8 foot high. This is a very noisy unit. I guess it would be fine if you work in a construction site office where noise is part of the environment, but I work in a studio setting where the noise level of this unit is completely unacceptable. The second issue I have with this is that there is no auto-off for the fan when the room gets to the desired temperature. Again, this point references noise. The effect is that you get no respite from the noise. It is either loud and intrusive or even louder and more intrusive when the compressor kicks in. The packaging was excellent. The delivery bad. I was told I would be informed by Home Depot when it arrived for pick up. I did not get any form of delivery notification. So, I had to go in and check if it was there +- 10 days after due delivery date to find out that it had apparently been there all along. The installation into the window is very awkward although the concept may be good. I found that the window panels did not fit into the window frame and left a lot of gap all around. There was no sealing strip (foam rubber or something suitable), so I ended up using masking tape to seal the gaps. (Very ugly!). The input and outlet pipes are cumbersome so that the unit is pushed in towards the room by about 3 feet, which takes space and creates and ugly setup and intrusion into the room. Also, I have not drained the unit yet, but I can see that it can be a challenge. The drain is a small plug at the bottom of the unit. This means that the air intake and outlet hoses have to be disconnected, the unit rolled to a suitable place to drain the water - I see hassle and mess coming! I would suggest that Whynter add a little pump with a switch and output near the top of the unit for easy draining. I think Whynter has good technology and the ability to produce a product with a very nice finish. However, I believe that every point that I have mentioned can be solved with a commitment to designing a product for an excellent user experience. I don't see that kind of thought or standard in this product. Sorry, but that's my perception based on my experience. If Whynter comes out with a design improvement, I would be happy to review it and give praise if praise is due. So, no. I regretfuly would not recommend this product to anyone.

I've only had this up and running for a few days now but it's been running great. Setup was fairly straightforward and took about 15 minutes to hook up everything. I have windows in my living room that are about 20 inches wide so couldn't fit a conventional window unit into them. This portable unit does not take all that much room so didn't need to move the furniture already in the room that much. It's also using a standard 110 outlet so no extra wiring. Other than normal a/c noise, it isn't any louder than a window unit. Not that I plan to use it in another room, the wheels are there for those who might.

This A/C unit comes with a window kit to connect the input and output hoses to the outside. I am using it in a garage room that does not have any windows, so I used (2) 6 inch external ducts through the wall. Then i used a 6 inch to 5 inch reducer to connect to the 5 inch hoses supplied with the unit. All parts were in stock at Home Depot. The ducts came with a built in flapper that works fine with the exhaust hose but I had to put a screw to hold the flapper open for the input. Since this duct is now open all the time, I added a screen to prevent birds from getting in. After this installation everything works great and supplies the room with lots a cool air. If you have a window this would be a simple installation. I would recommend you use a 2 tube unit. A single tube unit only exhausts the hot air. If you have a fairly well sealed room you can not continually exhaust air with none coming in. The 2 tube unit is more efficient and more reliable.
