A Note From The Home Depot
Looking for a new way to design a Thanksgiving tablescape? Yuni of Love Your Abode showcases a fun and simple way to incorporate your kids in adding a beautiful touch to the decor!
How To Make DIY Painted Placemats
To prepare for Thanksgiving, Emmy and I made some DIY-painted placemats for The Home Depot Kids Seasonal Workshop. This is a fun and simple way to add color and personality to your Thanksgiving table.
All you need are a few supplies from The Home Depot to make your own version of these DIY-painted placemats with your little ones.
Step 1: Pour Paint Onto Paper Plate and Mix
This is the time to get creative and make your own paint colors. I let Emmy mix some of the paint colors to create her own palette. Instead of going the traditional route and using autumn colors, she opted for a brighter palette. I was all for it!
Encourage your kids to get creative and let them make a mess. It's part of the creative mind at work. But do lay down a cloth or craft paper to protect your table and have your kids wear an apron.
We both painted together and didn't really have any specific design plan. The jute from the placemat takes the paint really well and I found the foam brush worked better for larger areas while the paint brushes were great for the smaller details.
Step 2: Allow Placemats to Fully Dry
We dried the placemats for a full 24 hours outside. Look how cute it turned out! The abstract geometric patterns are funky and add such a fun cool vibe.
Step 3: Set the Table!
We took out some faux pumpkins and went for a full-on colorful tablescape.
You can find the beautiful white dishes from The Home Depot.
Emmy and I put the tablescape together and it was another chance for me to share my love of putting together a beautiful and intentional setting.
We hope you'll join us in recreating your own version of the DIY-painted placemats for your own Thanksgiving tablescape.
We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
