Can this material be used to waterproof a sauna floor?

I've seen several places sell this as a waterproof membrane for a sauna. It'd be great if I can use it there. I know it's used in steam showers behind tile, but would it work for a sauna floor? I'd guess it'd see temps from -30F to say 180F? Thanks! Julian
Asked by: JulianR
No. If the temperature is repeatedly sustained too high for extended periods of time, it will harden the liner. The liner will then become brittle and crack. Once this occurs, you have lost the water proof barrier.

can the rubber PVC liner be extended by overlapping and gluing with PVC cement

Asked by: mike
Hello mike, I’m Chris from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question. Absolutely you can do this. Use at least a 6” overlap if you can. When you say PVC cement, you must use cement that is specifically made for gluing shower liners. It will say this clearly on the label. We sell Oatey X-15 Shower Pan Liner Adhesive. You can find it here: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-X-15-16-oz-PVC-Bonding-Adhesive-308122/100344046 I hope this helps, Chris. .

CAN TWO PIECES BE GLUED, CEMENTED TOGETHER FOR A BIGGER SHOWER?

Asked by: BOB
Yes. You can bond pieces of the shower pan liners together. Short description below: The full instructions are also written on the Oatey X15 Shower Pan Liner Adhesive can labels (sku 418455). Once you have the two pieces of liner cut square and laid flat on a warm hard surface (above 50°F), you must overlap one of the pieces over the other at least 2”. If you are seaming PVC liner use the Oatey X-15 mentioned above. Fold back the top piece of liner and wipe any debris or foreign substance off both surfaces with a damp cloth and then dry thoroughly. Apply the proper cement for the application to both surfaces allow 1 to 3 minutes in hot weather and 6 to 8 minutes in cold weather. Join then together. Immediately apply pressure on the seam for 15 to 30 seconds with a 2x4 or equivalent. Leave this seam to cure for 12 hours before installing, but after one hour there is good handling strength and you can move the liner.

5 ft. x 6 ft. Shower Pan Liner is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is one of the most flexible ways to build... This is one of the most flexible ways to build a shower base. I don’t like how the corners end up being folded and bulky in corners of shower (requiring special framing to allow excess rubber folds), but the results have been fantastic. I have created 23 showers as a contractor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Problems with folds In order to remove the creases from the folded materials, unfold the material and place it on a flat, smooth surface in direct sunlight. On a warm day with plenty of sunshine the material will heat up to 110-120 degrees, any you should be able to stretch out the material and remove most of the creases. After doing this, roll up the material (instead of folding it) until you are ready to use it. Heating the material in sunlight also makes it easier fold into your shower pan. One caution - the material will be softer and easier to puncture when heated, so use caution walking on it
