Could this be used for top dressing a lawn with Home Depot's 'Sunshine' sphagnum peat moss (sold ...

Asked by peat June 29, 2020

i suppose it would work, if the peat was crushed up a bit, because it would have to make it's way through the opening in the bottom of the tub, which is about the size of a credit card when fully opened.

Is the shaft that goes from the gearbox up into the hopper stainless steel?

Asked by North County February 29, 2020

Thank you for considering the Agri-Fab 130 push spreader. 45-04622 does not have any stainless steel parts. Agri-Fab is coming out with 45-0548 130 Salt Push Broadcast spreader that has a stainless steel axle and shaft.

Will this spread sand salt mixture??

Asked by Vickersb2 February 29, 2020

We recommend granular or pelleted product or ice melt. We do have some customers that spreads sand with our spreader. It would need to dry sand so it does not clump up.

You application chart just gives setting for the granule size. Do you have information on the application rate in lbs per 1000 sq ft?

Asked by NickC February 27, 2020

Application rate for Agri-Fab broadcast spreaders is a general setting of 3 to 5 for light to heavy application calculated at a speed of 3 mph, or 100 ft in 23 seconds. To ensure uniform coverage make each pass so that the broadcast pattern slightly overlaps the pattern from the previous pass. There are variables depending on the size, shape and weight of the product you will be spreading. A rule of thumb is go on the conservative side and crisscross

Gap when lever setting at off position
I have still not used the spreader, just reporting the issue after assembly. In the lever in off position, there is still gap on the hopper and the plate. This will cause fertilize to drop when i do not need to spread it. Expecting AgriFab team to read this review and advise fix. Thanks

Heavy duty but there is room for improvement
I bought this spreader for de-icing salt and gravel. It is much larger and sturdier than the ones that were available at my local big box store. It took about an hour to assemble and the instructions were decent but not great. I find that the agitator is much too small for this size spreader. It's just a coter pin so damp sand did not flow at all. Even with dry salt I needed to shake the machine a lot in order for the salt to flow. I would like to rig up something to vibrate the hopper while pushing the spreader. That would solve the problem but it will be a project for another day. My other criticism is that since there are no deflectors, an equal amount of product flies back at your legs as flies outwards. Not great if you don't like being cover with salt. All in all, this is a large sturdy spreader with a few flaws that Agri-Fab could probably solve quite easily.

Gears slip every half turn
Spreader is very heavy duty and solid and should last a very long time. The controls are easy to work as well. I gave it 2 stars because the large gear that turns the broadcaster is way too loose, with too much wobble and causes the gears to slip every half turn. I’ve been in contact with agri-fab about this already and they are aware of the issue and are in the process of replacing the gear with one that has a straight bore instead of a taper which is allowing it to wobble and slip.

Beefy Unit
I purchased this unit based on the price and the fact you can purchase replacement parts. Unit only took about an hour to put together. I just only gave it 4 stars due to the push nuts supplied. I am not a fan of them. They are a pain to drive on and they rust quickly. I replaced them with shaft collars. Other than that, I believe this spreader will out last me. I do like the orange paint scheme.

I purchased this last week from Home Depot. I assembled it in about 1 hour 15 mins. Overall I am happy with the spreader and seems to be strong and well thought out. One exception is the plastic caps that hold the wheels on. These caps are fine for somethings but not for this heavy duty unit. A 130lb hopper is meant for larger yards and when you take into account hills, bumps and slopes in my property, I just don't see the caps holding up long. I did end up drilling a 7/32 hole on each axle and installed an extra 3/4" x 1 1/4 inch washer along with a 1/8" x 2 9/16" hitch pin. You could also use a 3/16 cotter pin if you prefer but the hitch pin makes it easy to remove wheel if need to grease or service. Spent $3 in washers and hitch pins at local hardware store and well worth it.

I read the reviews here before buying and ordered one. I have worked on my cars and consider myself fairly mechanical minded. The axle is way too short for the spacers to go on the wheels and the shaft going into the hopper is tilted. I think the manufacturer has some quality defects. I have spent more than 2 hours trying to get it lined up right and had to leave a spacer off one of the wheels just to make it fit. Now it is hard to push/roll forward. Total fail. Even noticed a wheel rim is bent. Seems like a quality audit is needed somewhere.

Sturdy Spreader
I bought this spreader after doing comparisons of different manufacturers spreaders. It took me an hour and a half to assemble it because the instructions were somewhat vague. I also took note of the past reviews that said one of the main problems was the retaining cap would come off holding the non-drive wheel on. So, during my assembly I modified the axle. I installed the washers, spacer bushing and the wheel. I added a thin washer on the outside of the wheel. Then added 1/8 inch clearance and drilled a 5/32 inch cross hole through the axle. I installed a 5/32 inch roll pin through the axle to retain the wheel. You can drill multiple size holes depending on your retaining method. I could have installed a cotter pin or a spring pin but chose to install a roll pin to retain the wheel. It took me about 20 minutes to modify the axle to make sure the wheel never comes off. Too bad the factory doesn't do the same thing. Even with the roll pin added the retaining cap can still be installed.
