Asked by: coxman
The tines are aproximently 9 inches, it cannot be used instead of an aerator. If done correctly there is minimum to no damage to your grass.

Would this rake also be good to do light thatching on a very small section of grass. I used weed and feed on it several weeks ago and am just seeing more grass than weeds. The house was vacant for 2 years and mowed only when needed during that time though I have been trying to clear the dead cut grass out when I am feeling well enough. Thanks
Asked by: Kat
I'd recommend a soft rake for small light thatching job. Coming down with the rake on an angle pulling to the right or left in fast short stokes will work. Pulling directly down and toward you like raking leaves does not accomplish anything.

16-Tine Double Play Bow Rake with Fiberglass Handle is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 318.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Failed after about 3 years, replaced under warranty A good quality light to medium duty bow rake. Not for commercial or heavy use. It is listed as fiberglass, but it is wooden, with a fiberglass wrapper over the wood handle, it is not solid fiberglass- at least at the tine end. The bow (metal tine) end of the rake will flex and bend if you push or pull too hard and if you use a chopping motion to loosen clods of dirt. After about 3 years of ownership and moderate use (raking and leveling dirt and pushing mulch around the garden), the wood under the fiberglass sheath failed at the end where the metal rake portion (tines) enters, and the fiberglass split. Good news is the 15 year warranty. I called the number that was still on the label on the rake handle, the call lasted all of 3 minutes- received clear concise instructions to photograph the rake, labels and damage and e-mail them to the address given to me. I am currently awaiting the replacement to arrive. This company has a great warranty that they honor without hesitation.

I like the feature of the two sided rake action...But was seriously disappointed when the metal rake became unattached to the fiberglass handle after 4 hours of yard work..Basically fell apart..I returned to HD and bought a different model.I do not recommend this rake to anyone unless you plan on leaving it in the garage.

"Dual purpose" and "So far, so good" I believe the double-sided rake design will be helpful in at least two ways. First, in addition to having what would be considered regular rake tines on one side, it has something similar to a wide but short hoe on the flip side so it has a dual purpose. Second, the combined height of the two faces may allow one to drag larger amounts (i.e. taller piles) with each pull. I also appreciate that the handle is longer than many I considered. Finally, while it is a little early to write a review on its durability--I have only had the rake for about a week and have only used it once--it seems to be well built and I expect it to last for a long time.

I used this rake to move crushed stone on my driveway. Excellent. I used the side of the rake that had the shorter, thicker tines. It allowed me to move the stones with less effort than using the side with the longer tines. Very well made and should last many, many years with the fiberglass handle. The price was also outstanding.

Metal does not bend but it digs into the pole so after about half a day of use it had an uneven frame. Long story short. Pay the extra $$ to get the heavy duty and avoid the stress. Job got done but if this had to be used the long term it would eventually fail

After using this rake, and it's ability to be flipped over for further smoothing, I returned the other style rake and go a second one of these. I wish this had been out years ago. I haven't used it enough to determine it's ruggedness.

When put to the test the support arms just started bending then the actual rake started bending which ever way I would try to use it. Back to the design board with this one. I will be returning soon.
