I have the Beckett filter/pump. The UV bulb had burned out - it's needed to reduce/eliminate the algae. I still had the instructions in the container for the pump, basically you unscrew the ring, the tube is pulled out. Once the plastic tubing is removed, you can replace the light bulb. Very easy. Remember to use a little vegetable oil on the bottom of the plastic tubing when reinserting.

I'm using the bulb, for other water treatment ideas - with products like these, you have to have faith in what you know about UV and assume that it's working for your needs, by exposure. It's a rugged little light and I haven't run into heat issues.
