Amazing
Very impressive tool! Didnt purchase with the intent to clear this much, but i dont own a chainsaw so I figured i would try this first. I ended up cutting trees that were over 1.5’ in diameter, and it worked flawlessly! Thanks dewalt for making a solid tool!

    Worth Every Penny
I own a gas pole saw but wanted something longer since I own a lot of the Dewalt 20v tools. I bought the bare tool pole saw and worth every penny if not more. Yes a little top heavy as the motor is at the bar/chain, doesn’t cut as fast as my gas saw but super quiet, much longer reach and well worth the price. I like the angle on the blade. Let the weight of the tool do the cutting. Holding near vertical the best balance but of course don’t stand directly under branch being cut. If you press too hard it will stop the chain. I trimmed 4 large maple and oak trees in less than 90 minutes which filled 4 - 5x8 trailer loads of branches. I used a 4 amp/hr battery and still had 1/3rd charge left. I used 2 tanks of bar and chain oil so check frequently as unlike gas you will likely run out of bar and chain oil before the battery runs out. Check chain tension with each fill of oil especially when new. Great that the tool holder is built into the chain scabbard. I love the ability to add or remove the center section. Only minor complaint is the double top safety switch. I taped down the small top catch that requires pulling back before pressing down (really!) but still requires me to press down the safety before pulling up on the trigger. I didn’t want to defeat both safeties. Why a 2 in 1 safety switch is beyond me but if you require 2 don’t use any power tools! And yes contrary to the manual I used a ladder and my roof. I’ll never use my telescoping manual pole saw again!

Great, no need to climb patters you cut branches. Make sure you get the oil, Home Depot should place oil next to tool.

      Great battery powered pole saw!
While this definitely doesn’t have the power of a gas pole saw, it does exceptionally well for being battery powered. As others have said it is a bit top heavy, and it can get a bit unwieldy when it is extended out to its full length. Let me explain. I was using it to cut branches beyond the maximum 15’ cut height, some of which were directly overhead or were out a ways, and when resting the head of the saw on the branch it cut through them with ease, but presented me with a new problem. Once the branch was cut the saw would fall to the ground right alongside the branch, and while I was able to catch it in time before hitting the ground, it put unnecessary strain on the shaft. After this happened I had a brilliant(for me) idea. I bought 100’ of 1/4” rope, tied a noose on one end, and then tossed the noose over a branch higher than the one I’m cutting. Then I put the noose around the head of the saw, just above the knuckle that mounts the saw to the shaft. I grab the rope in one hand, the handle in the other and I’m ready to cut branches as far as I can reach. Pulling on the rope with one hand virtually eliminates the weight of the saw, and while cutting the branch helps counter balance the saw and once the branch is cut, the saw sits up there waiting for its next job. I hope this helps someone else as much as it helped me.

          Far exceeded my expectations
This pole saw was awesome. I really pushed the limits of this pole saw and cut a bunch of different sized branches. This saw had zero problems. My only complaint is this does not come with any bar oil at all, so don’t forget to purchase some with this saw if you don’t already have some.

Several of our trees have dead limbs, so this pole saw has been a really useful tool. The extensions slide together easily and are secured by plastic hand nuts. The weight on the saw end takes some getting used to as I imagine it does with all pole saws. The saw cuts quickly and smoothly with little effort. It does take strength to hold it up properly due to the weighty work end of the saw. Lots of safety features here as well. The battery did not come with it, but I have a battery from another Dewalt tool that works great with it.

The 20-Volt MAX 8 inch pole saw (tool only) is an excellent addition to my tools especially for the garden. Since my husband is bigger and stronger and taller than I am, I asked him to try it out by trimming some low hanging branches on a very large tree, The pole saw was easy to put together and the battery had already been charged and the oil was put in. This saw cut the branches easily and cleanly. After trimming, we cleaned the saw and put the battery on charge, The pole saw comes highly recommended.

This tool is made by DeWalt, a company that makes strong, powerful tools. You can buy tools that can do the same jobs as DeWalt and buy them much cheaper. DeWalt tools have power and torque that I don't mind paying extra for. I worked at a large plant in maintenance. One day I needed a drill and had to walk about a block to the tool room and check out a drill. Walking back to my work area, just fooling around hit the switch on the drill and felt the chuck. I almost hurt myself. I had always used cheap drills at home. I couldn't imagine a drill with torque like this one. I started buying DeWalt tools for my use at home after that day. So this saw comes packed in eco conscious molded cardboard packaging, which I've been happy to see more of recently. It is easily assembled consisting of three major pieces, one of which is optional, unless it is used to make the saw even longer for cutting higher branches. While the saw does have instructions, I merely glanced at them because if you've ever used a chainsaw, a pole-saw and a cordless drill, using this saw would be second nature. Charged up the battery, screwed the control base to the power head, put some chain saw oil in the tank and headed out to the yard. This saw cut like a champ. Dropped branch after branch. The trigger is a two step process. A little tricky getting the first switch started. it has its own mechanical toggle, a short learning curve on that. It's not really light, it's not too heavy. You're working here. The next day, I took it out again with the extension segment in the middle. I was concerned it would be too cumbersome or top-heavy but it wasn't. I was able to reach the higher branches. Also, when using the extension you are able to hold it at a wider angle to stay out of the way of the stuff you cut falling on your head. But we all wear hardhats when we work in the yard, right? I like any tool made by DeWalt. If they made a cake mixer I'd get it for my wife.
