Q:Are these safe to use in enclosed light fixtures? I know not all LEDs can be used in fixtures with poor heat dissipation
by|Jul 30, 2020
2 Answers
Answer This Question

A:  I would not use these enclosed as they will burn out early. These are great bulbs as you can set each bulb with different color temps.

by|Oct 19, 2020

A:  Hello, and thank you for your question about the EcoSmart 90WE BR30. This bulb cannot be used in fully enclosed fixtures as the heat build up will damage the bulb.

Q:Why aren't these available in Virginia?
        by|Mar 2, 2020

        Answer This Question

A:  OK, smart alecks. 1) These are not outlawed in Virginia. These are California Title 20 compliant, which is a more stringent standard than the rest of the country. 2) I checked online a few days ago, and the web site said that there were no bulbs within 100 miles of the Fairfax, VA Home Depot. Out of curiosity, I checked stores in Ohio and Tennessee, and no bulbs within 100 miles of those stores, either. Thinking that perhaps they only carry these in California, I checked zip code 90210, and sure enough, they were in stock. 3) The web site would not allow me order and have them shipped to Fairfax, VA. That reinforced my hypothesis that perhaps Home Depot was being short-sighted, and only selling these higher standard bulbs in California (due to T20 requirements). Hence, my question.

A:  Hello, and thank you for your question about the EcoSmart 90WE BR30. I'm not sure where in Virginia you are, but I'm seeing that it is available in most stores except for Waynesboro. Even if it is not stocked in your local Home Depot store, it is available online through homedepot.com. Just to be clear, these light bulbs have not been banned in any state except for California, which has it's own regulations for light bulbs.

          by|Mar 2, 2020

A:  I would say that is a question you have to ask your state legislator Why the banned them in Virginia.

ECOSMART 90-WATT EQUIVALENT BR30 DIMMABLE ENERGY STAR 2700K/3000K/5000K LED LIGHT BULB (2-PACK) This bulb is adjustable to the color light you desire. This is the first time I’ve bought a light bulb that lets you choose your color intensity. Who knew that light bulbs were going to be so smart? It’s really helpful because I need a different kind of light over my kitchen sink than I need over my jetted bathtub. This should come in handy all over my house. This saves me from having too purchase multiple color bulbs in advance of knowing when one will go out. Oh... and they are dimmable. /2 bulbs per package too!!

These Ecosmart 90- watt equivalent dimmable floods are nice bulbs with an external switch to easily select the color for your application. As a retired engineer I have been amazed at the recent innovation in the light bulb industry. I rebelled at compact fluorescents and bought up a load of 100-watt incandescent bulbs. I still felt vindicated when the price of daylight LEDs was crazy high and the light too white. Now I enthusiastically embrace LEDs for the efficiency, color and life expectancy.

From soft white to daylight with a flick of a switch! I was hesitant, but you can see the difference in each of the settings, 5K is the brightest and the setting I decided to go with. It’s just great to have the option to change or select different lighting on a whim without a dimmer or need for a dimmer. There’s only one minor flaw, and that is that to change the settings you have to pull the bulb out...not a deal breaker since I’m sure once you made your selection it will stay in that setting. The 5K does appear to be a bit brighter than other bright white bulbs I have purchased; it could be the new effect...not sure since the bulbs were installed over the weekend.

These are bright reflector flood style LED lamps. The color temperature is selected by the switch on the side of the lamp. I measured the light output with my light meter at a one foot distance. I also compared the light output of a 65 watt incandescent reflector flood lamp. Here are the results: Soft White 3700 Lux, Bright White 4000 Lux, Daylight 4200 Lux, 65 watt incandescent 2500 Lux. I measure the power consumption with my watt meter. Here are the results: Soft White 15.4 watts, Bright White 15.2 watts, Daylight 15.6 watts, 65 watt incandescent 64.1 watts. I was disappointed in the dimming capability of these lamps compared to another surface mount LED fixture that I have and the 65 watt incandescent test lamp. I tested these new LED lamps on a traditional wall mount rotary dimmer. When I slowly turned the knob from off to full the lamp would pop on half way putting out 660 Lux and then would smoothly fade up to full at 4370 Lux. When the dimmer was slowly turned from full to off, the transition was smooth until the last 10% of travel and then the lamp got brighter at the last 5% of travel.

I replaced my bathroom lights with these Ecosmart 90-Watt LED Light Bulbs. Used to have those florescent bulbs which never provided enough brightness (which you can see in the pictures I have posted...the middle light is still fluorescent - you can see the difference in brightness). The 3 choices of brightness are great option although I chose to set it on the brightest (5000K). I will replace the middle bulb as well. It makes the bathroom nice & bright.

You can't go wrong with LED bulbs for most any application. This bulb only uses 16 watts and is rated at 90 watts. The bulb is adjustable for light appearance from soft white to daylight using a simple switch on the stem of the bulb. We are using ours in a weather protected back porch flood light as the bulb is also damp rated. You can use the bulb in a situation where it can be dimmed as well.

It only uses 16-Watt and can last up to 22.8 years based on a 3-hour a day usage schedule. This is an especially good choice when one want to have the ability to change the light color from soft white to bright sunshine just by moving a switch on the bulb. These lights provide 1260 lumens. These bulbs are made in China.

We got a pack of 2-90 watt LED replacement bulbs and I love these!! They actually have a switch right on the bulb so that you can choose if you want the light to be "daylight", "bright white" or "soft white". We have a dark kitchen so even with several lights in our kitchen it still feels dark but with these bulbs it finally feels brightened up!! We have our bulbs set on "daylight" which is the brightest setting. They are extremely bright if you try to look up into the light but I love how the bright light shines down and really adds more light to my kitchen!! It's hard to show in a picture but if you look in the picture below the far light is our original bulb which is not a bright and the close light is the new daylight bulb. What a great product!!

Great choice if you don't know what shade of light you need in a given place. There is a switch on the side near the base (see pics) that changes the shade from soft white to white to daylight. This is a standard medium base so will fit a standard screw in socket. It is 3 3/4" at the head so be sure it will fit though it is not as large as the PAR38 outdoor type flood light. These are rated for damp locations though they are not for use in places where they can get wet from rain. I used these in a screened porch so they are outdoors but are undercover. 1260 lumens is a lot of light especially if you choose the 5000K daylight setting.
