The FastenMaster Cortex fastening system is pretty simple and works well to hide the actual screw hole. plugs can sometimes not fit well depending how you drill the pilot hole so a little silicone caulk can help keep in place. Colors blend well and although it takes extra time to utilize this fastening method the overall clean appearance makes it worthwhile.

Don't blame the screws - the system is great.
They are cleverly engineered to drill the hole, pull the board flush and countersink the hole all in one step without mushrooming composites. Set them halfway when you just want to hold board in place - they do not come out easily once the are countersunk. The wood underneath is the enemy sometimes - on occasion, it's too soft and the screw spins before it has drawn down enough. If that happens there are (2) options. First, turn screw slowly CLOCKWISE to help it lift back up, then carefully back it out, drill the hole deeper as needed with a drill bit and reinstall the screw. Or, if the screw is just not deep enough, use a sharp chisel to trim the plug as needed - gentle pressure is enough to cut the plugs. On the whole, the system work wonderfully and there are plugs for most composites out there today.

Struggled with many of the screws not countersinking or not...
Struggled with many of the screws not countersinking or not countersinking enough making plugs far too deep (large) for the holes. Had to modify many of the plugs so they would be flush with deck board after installation.

Thank you for your review and we are sorry if you experienced an issue with the screws and plugs. Pre-drilling is recommended and should help with allowing the screws to more easily set and the plugs to install. FiberonHomeDepot
