Simulate the brightness and vividness of natural daylight with this energy-efficient spiral CFL light bulb from Feit Electric. Each lamp puts out a substantial 2800-Lumens of light using just 40-Watt of power, consuming substantially less electricity than a 150-Watt incandescent equivalent. That translates to a savings of $96 in energy costs per bulb over its 8000-hour existence. The 6500K color temperature is stark and bright, suitable for any indoor or enclosed outdoor fixture that accepts a standard-sized E26 medium-bulb base such as this.
  • Brightness: 2800 lumens
  • Estimated yearly energy cost: $4.82 (based on 3 hours/day, 11¢/kWh; cost depends on rates and use)

1. FishAyes said, twice, that this light bulb is a VERY LARGE one. I need to buy it but if it's THAT large I'm afraid it may not fit in my standard table lamp....What do you all think? 2. What's the difference between 6500K and any other K? Does it have to do with the power of the light given out? Or the clearness of it; i.e., Cool White.... Thanks so much for any help so I can buy it already... :o)
Asked by: Adela
I had to switch out the "harp" (that thing that holds the shade in place) to accommodate the size of the bulb, but I wanted a light of great brightness, and this one does that. The shade still fit the lamp, and actually, it made it easier to turn it on and off, due to the placement of the bulb.

How does this bulb compare to the amount of heat a 60 watt incandescent bulb generates ?

I want to replace a ceiling light with this bulb but I'm concerned about the heat and possible fire hazard.
Asked by: Alangski
The amount of heat a light bulb produces is directly proportional to the wattage of the bulb. In this instance, a 40 watt CFL will produce roughly 2/3 the amount of heat of a 60 watt incandescent bulb.

I ask Feit Electric: About how long do they last if I'll use it around 3 hours per day? Is the base standard to screw it to any lamp? I'm surprised that for the very high price it gives only about 2800 lumens. The incandescent bulb I used to buy, gives 2710 lumens for $1.99 per light bulb..... :)
Asked by: Adela
The life of this CFL is specified at 8000 hours. The price is higher because it puts out the equivalent of a standard 150W bulb but consumes only 40W of electricity and lasts much longer.

150-Watt Equivalent A21 Spiral CFL Light Bulb Daylight (6500K) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 198.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from intensely bright, cooler-than-daylight illumination Some years ago I replaced all the lighting (other than decorative) in my condo with CFLs. They weren't as bright as I might have liked, and the equivalent color temperature (less than 3000K) was not to my liking. I decided to give these lamps a shot, with their 6500K color temperature, and higher output. I'm generally pleased. They're really bright (for just 40 VA consumption). Though the cool light can take getting used to, it's not anywhere nearly as "clinical" looking as that delivered by Cool White tubular fluorescents. My only gripe is that these lamps are made by Feit. Feit doesn't have good reputation for reliability. A two-year old Feit CFL purchased elsewhere cracked when I removed it from a fixture. Nevertheless, even if CFLs don't last as long as their manufacturers claim, they seem to represent good value for the money. For example, assuming an energy consumption reduction of 100W, and electricity at 11 cents per kWh, the bulb need only last 1000 hours to break even on its cost.

I use to buy a CFL 150 watt equivalent from my Home Depot store that was another brand for $10.99 and the then it was no longer available so I started buying a Sylvania 150 watt NFL from Lowe's for $10.98 until the discontinued recently. I assume it's the mercury inside so now I bought this Feit CFL for $13+ when Lowe's is clearance pricing for less than $3.00! I guess there will be a 150 watt equivalent in LED soon.

The bulb that just burned out was in an outdoor fixture located in the northeast. It had to deal with cold winters and hot, humid summers. It was on all night and gave us years of trouble free lighting. I recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from work great for indoor gardening I ordered 4 of these to start my tomatoes and peppers for the outdoor garden. These are very bright white with a touch of blue which is what young seedlings like. You could probably grow some plants to harvest with these if you added a few 2700k bulbs to the mix. I made a light fixture for them out of an old plastic garbage can lid and some lamp parts from the hardware store. the bulbs stay cool enough that I don't have to worry about melting. Plus, you can get the lights very close to the plants without burning them. This makes the plants short and strong instead of tall and spindly I read somewhere that these 42w bulbs give the best lumens per watt. I am very happy with this purchase.
