Don’t buy it!
Very poor quality! For the price this product is a rip off. First, it was missing apart(N). I called customer service i was told it would take 2 weeks! My husband made the part, its the best piece on it cause it is real wood! The screws wouldn’t screw in correctly they are poorly made. We had to use wood glue to hold it together. I will never purchase this again! I’m so disappointed! I paid $500.00 for this product now its 800. It’s not worth $100.. Next time i will get one built. Im so so disappointed with this product. It looks nice after assembly however looks can be deceiving.
We put a lot of furniture together. Home Depot using has good, sturdy material, but my husband and I tried putting this hall tree together, it never felt secure and once we tried to stand it up, all pieces started coming apartment it split in several places. I couldn't even glue this thing back together. Such cheap material. We ended up taking it to the junk pile. Waist of time and money. Would never buy again!!

Assembly was perfect. Directions were very clear. Works perfect. The off gasing from the cheap stain was awful. Not something that I want to breathe or my family. High VOC’s make this unit undesirable.
I’ve been looking for the right hall tree for a while. The height, quality and color of this tree is perfect; and the price is great. You can’t miss it when you walk in the house. I’ve received several compliments and would buy 1000x’s over.

This piece was perfect for our storage needs and is aesthetically appealing. The cupboards/drawers are easy to open versus opening a bench and trying to see what's in the bottom. The finishing touches really add to the piece too. I was able to find wicker storage bins that fit perfectly on the top for more storage. The bench cushion zips off so it can be washed. Love it!
I wanted a fireplace and a home for all my books, hubby wanted his entertainment surround system center stage. With a little modification these provided a good compromise and they look good too!
Method:
I used 1 inch thick x 13 inch wide staircase boards from home depot and cut about 4 inches off the length of the boards to make them fit. Then I used 2 rolls of faux leather contact paper also from Home Depot to cover the shelves and installed metal shelf pins and put the shelves on top. Love how it came out. These bookshelves made room for all my books with plenty of extra space. One of the bottom doors fit a 13"W x 18"D subwoofer perfectly so to the hubby my project is justified lol.
Pros:
Sturdy, well made, thick construction and Oooh la-la attractive. This is not your typical thin plywood assembly furniture. It looks beautiful with top down molding and expensive when put together properly.
Cons:
takes awhile to assemble, took me about 4.5hrs carefully taking my time with several breaks on first one and 3 hrs on the 2nd one.
Be prepared to dispose of a ton of styrofoam and cardboard waste. Like, more than your average compact hatchback can handle because I tried. Each hall tree comes in 3 large boxes. 1 for the base, 1 for the midsection, and 1 for the top. and it took 2 trash days, 2 full trashcans and (6)13gal trashbags and lots of broken up styrofoam to get rid of all of it. Boo.
Price point. This is the biggest downside in my opinion because although these were the best price for what I was looking for (I was fortunate to purchase 2 of these for $384 each during a sale. Total with tax and shipping of about $770 and that was the max I was willing to spend.) However if you count the assembly time, possible modifications and the time and energy needed to dispose of all the waste then a price point over $430 is too high imho. Add in a set of stairs to carry the heavy assembly boxes from the garage to the living room and the price of $550 is suddenly outrageous. So is it a value item by itself? Imho no. On Sale? Sure. Above $500 you can likely find a local fully assembled all wood hall tree and use/modify it yourself.
Overall a beautiful piece when the price is right.
Very much disappointed that it wasn't measuring 49 inches in the bottom, where we are looking for exactly 49 inches. Its all messed and not looking good with the gaps on either sides. If you are looking for exact 49 inches one, this isn't the right one.
Material quality and packing was good

This is a nice sturdy piece. Mine came with an imperfection on the back piece. Bummer but HomeDepot made it right by refunding me a percentage after the manufacturer failed to respond to the request for a new piece. I am happy with it.

Looks great once assembled. Overall, excellent quality.
Other reviews have captured assembly well. There are points where you need a second person to turn, stand up, or move the unit. It's on the heavier side once assembled. Doing it as once person takes time, so don't expect to do it in an hour or two. Many parts to put together. I considered putting the
As a unit, it arrives in three good size boxes. On the plus side, the manufacturer has done a nice job of splitting them up into fairly manageable boxes. I had it delivered to my local shipping office and fit all three into a sedan.
Based on the shipper site here are the dimensions of the three boxes:
55 in x 28 in x 8 in - 64 lbs
51 in x 20 in x 9 in - 58 lbs
54 in x 21 in x 7 in - 55 lbs
Despite the dimensions, I was able to move them all without help.

Royce Smokey Brown 29" Hall Tree by Home Depot Home Collection Series
I needed a mud room/hall area tree for coats and shoes, so when Home Depot offered their Royce Smokey Brown Hall Tree I decided to order it, as it would fit the bill of what I needed. The order was processed in a timely manner and the item was shipped to me.
The tree comes shipped in three separate boxes. All boxes arrived without damage. Upon opening the box, I must say, in the 30 years that I have assembled furniture on and off, that Home Collections took great care and design in packaging each of the box. Every piece is surrounded by foam protection, and foam blocks. There is no movement of parts. Everything is securely packed. So secure in fact, that you need to be careful and make sure you search everything, because the parts are hidden inside some of the Styrofoam. Home Collections does an excellent packaging job. Not one piece was broken.
Upon unpacking each piece, I laid them out against the wall in the room with the letter stickers showing. After removing all the pieces and hardware, I took the instruction manual, turned to the inventory pages, and checked the inventory off.
One of the things I did when I ordered this item is that I checked the reviews for common issues and potential problems. It appears that many had problems with the pieces breaking on them while assembly. Taking this information into account, I reviewed the instructions and how the manufacturer wanted their piece to be assembled. Immediately, I saw some issues that will cause problems.
1. Wooden Dowels: Many of the pieces use wooden dowels to help you align the pieces. The problem is that the wooden dowels are smaller in diameter than the holes drilled for their placement. Hence the dowels swim in each pieces holes and offer nothing in terms of support as a joint.
2. The assembly of the item is to be done on its back, then when completed, raised up as a unit. I found this to be very awkward because the joints are made 90* to the force of gravity that can work with you when assembling this unit with wood glue. I made some changes which I will explain.
3. Letter Stickers: This was the very frustrating part. The stickers used by the manufacturer are not easy removal but have glue that leaves behind a sticky residue. This is frustrating because the letter stickers are placed on the finished side of the cabinet, and they are in exposed areas.
The tools you will need are as follows:
Philips screw driver
Cordless Drill with Philips Head
Wood Glue, your choice of manufacturer
Paper Towel
Warm Water
Scotch Brite or similar style Blue Soft sponge with scrubby top
Windex with Vinegar
The assembly of this item, in the manner which I will explain, will take you approximately 8-10 hours to complete the project. I highly recommend you follow this manner to ensure a solid assembly.
The first thing I did was to take every piece that has a wooden dowel, and install them. I placed a drop of wood glue into the hole. DO NOT FILL the hole with glue. One drop the size of a pea is all you need. Insert the dowel. The glue may come out and over the top of the hole. That is okay. Simply take a piece of paper towel, wet it with warm water, squeezing out all excess water, and then wipe around the dowel to collect any overage of the wood glue. This will not damage any piece. Let the glue set up for at least an hour before you start assembly. The longer the dowels sit in the drying glue the better.
When you assemble the pieces, fill the mating side dowel hole, which should be empty, with a pea size drop of glue. Then assemble with the lock nuts, using a Philip's screw driver. Do not use a cordless drill on these as you will strip them out as they are not steel, but aluminum. If you strip them out, you can not use the covering plates as they will seat inside the socket for the screw driver.
The cordless drill is used to install the lock bolts. No glue needed here. Repeat the process with the moist paper towel to clean up any excess wood glue. You can wipe with a dry paper towel to further ensure no moisture remains.
The first step of assembly is easy but it is very fragile so do not attempt to stand it upright or it will collapse and break on you. Let the wood glue have time to dry when assembled. Doing this will help strengthen the assembly. (Figure 1)
Once you complete the basic square of the center section, let the glue dry to help build stronger joints. You will now move on to the top cap and the cubicle section. This again is where I vary a little bit. The initial trim piece with outside walls that you will build is very fragile to move around. I chose to build it while matching all areas to the crown top piece. I did this also because the top center trim piece is cut short and if you assemble it together first, with glue, it will not be square to the assembly and cause a problem. The outer pieces are held by dowel and lock bolts. The middle piece is small and is only held by dowels at the ends, and screws in two tabs in the middle. So I put a drop of glue in the socket of the outside pieces, and also in the receiving holes for the dowels on the center piece. I put one side together first, and then assembled the other side next. Then I installed the two wood screws to hold the center piece. Then I added the two cubicle inner walls, repeating the glue process. The assembly was given time to dry and it was solid. This was done with the top section sitting flat on the floor (Figures 2 and 3)(Figures 4 and 5 combined).
Once the cubicle area was assembled, and the wood glue had a good hour or two to dry, put a drop of wood glue in each of the cubicle bottom sides that would accept dowels. Then I lowered it down so that it was on it's back, and facing correctly to the center section. I then joined the top section and the cubicle together. Using the Philips screw driver, I locked the cams on the lock bolts. I also cleaned any wood glue that oozed out as stated earlier. I then carefully lifted the assembly up so that when upright it was upside down, resting on the top of the crown. This is where I let gravity do its work. I left the assembly alone for the night and let the wood glue dry. At this stage you have the top crown, cubicles, and the middle section assembled (Figure 6). I let these dry overnight.
The following day, I assembled the bottom section walls to the bottom of the center section. I followed all the same steps with gluing the dowels, etc. Then, using gravity to my benefit again, I installed the base. I let the wood glue dry for a few hours. While that was happening, I assembled the drawers and the doors.
Now I focused my attention to mounting the three wood sections that served as the backing. I carefully lowered the whole assembly to the floor. Then I carefully lifted it back up so that it was standing upright. I then attached the top, then the middle, then the lower, back sections. Now the assembly is tight and sturdy.
Lastly, was attaching the doors and installing the draws.
Overall it took me about 10 hours to assemble this piece of furniture. Approximately 5 hours each day. Because I took the time to glue the wood dowels in place, and be patient to let the glue set, it strengthened the assembly tremendously. Without doing so, the wood dowels served no purpose. They were smaller then their holes, and they were loose. I suffered none of the broken pieces that others did while assembling because of the method I used.
The color is nice, and the tree stands tall. The cubicles will handle sneakers, shoes, and work boots. Cowboy / Western boots will not fit. They are too tall. The drawers are nice and can hold a lot of materials. The cabinets also can store quite a bit. The good thing is the magnets are strong and the alignment of the doors is spot on, so they close nicely and hold.
The cushion is about 2 inch thick and comfortable to sit on. The bench is the right height for putting shoes on. I can see the cushion become a small dog or cat's favorite place to perch or sleep. There are three double hooks to hang your coats on. The height of where the hooks are located will leave the coats laying on some of the cushion.
Overall, I am very happy with this piece. It polishes up nicely. If you have a ding, go to your local office supply and get a brown Sharpie. The color matches perfectly and will hide any ding.
I rate this item 4 stars out of 5.
I lowered the quality to average because of the sloppy tolerance with the dowels, yielding them useless without wood glue.
I lowered the quality to average because the instructions do lead to possible damage in parts from assembly because the dowels offer no support which is needed.
I lowered the quality to average because the letter decals are NOT easy peel. They leave a glue residue on the finished side. I had to use Windex with Vinegar and a Scotch Brite to remove the glue residue. Anything harsher would have marred the surface and created a finish variance.
Please take your time when building this. Do not rush. If you do this, you will have a wonderful piece that is solid.
Thank you Home Depot for offering this item.
