Absolute piece of junk

Tried to attach to my dewalt first and it wouldn’t work. When attached the wheel wouldn’t go on to the arbor. Put it on my Makita and it fit after a lot of adjusting. But after using for maybe 10 minutes (all I needed it for) when I took it off the shroud had melted and no longer usable. Really disappointed. I think it should be made of metal not plastic. Surprised how terrible this product is.

Lasted 15 minutes

The design is horrible. Initially, it worked as expected, bot came loose while in operation, and was immediately destroyed by the diamond brush I was using.

Junk! Melted within 30 seconds.

I was hopeful that some of the reviews I had read were purely because it was used on thinset. I figured for my purposes it should work fine. However, as soon as I started using it, it didn't take even 30 seconds for the plastic to start melting around the area where it mounts to the grinder, as well as the little plastic brush fibers. See photos attached. This thing is not even worth $10, much less $60. Good idea but poor execution.

A Keeper

Small amounts of dust did get out while grinding some high spots on a concrete floor. Still, this works better than not using a shroud on my Ryobi grinder.

Epic Failure

I attached the shroud to my Dewalt angle grinder and after 2 uses, grinding away 10sq' of thinnest from plywood sub floor, it was in pieces. The issue is, the shroud clamps to the grinder and the clamp is spring mounted to the shroud allowing it to swivel. After attaching the shop vac hose to the shroud, the weight and force of the vacuum hose causes the shroud to swivel and rub against the top of the cup wheel. So while grinding away on the floor, I was also grinding away on the top of the shroud rendering it useless after 2 short uses.

Works, but designed for flat grinding disks

After reading reviews both 5* and 2*, I was apprehensive on will it work for the project I was attempting. I am cleaning basement walls of old paint sealer, calcium deposits and some mold built up over 40 years. Since I need to get into the indentations between the blocks, i am using a wire wheel. I could not find a 6.0 inch plastic bowl or storage container to give me a seal against the wall, so I used a piece of cardboard to increase the depth of the unit. Tried it out and suction was great and No leakage of dust. You have to think out of the box for this kind of setup. Grinder is a Harbor Freight model. 1) need to remove the guard on the grinder. 2) Need to make sure unit is centered and flush with grinders collar. 3) removable front piece may or may not line up with front of grinder. 4) could be a better mounting system.D

Game Changer

If you've ever ground up old thin set, you already know the mess it makes. I bought this in hopes of keeping dust from spreading to every square millimeter of my home. Having now done the entire kitchen floor, I can say with certainty that this thing works. Set up was relatively easy. I have a 4.5" Dewalt angle grinder - just know you need to remove the the guard and the latching mechanism before installing. Also note that this attaches to smaller shop vacs; if you have one of the bigger ones, you'll need a hose adapter. My specific Home Depot was out of them, so I got creative with a beer box and some masking tape. Once installed and in rhythm, I had the floor done in an hour. It's probably safe to say this thing reduced dust by 85-90%. Further, it's great that it keeps the floor clean so you can always see what you're doing. Bottom line: If you're about to grind thin set or mortar, do yourself a favor and grab one of these. You will not regret it.

Very disappointed

I read the instructions which are vague but simple. I bought a makita grinder which it did not fit. Therefore I went and bought a Dewalt Dwe4120 and the fit was not what I would call good. The first dust shroud pro I used melted and would not stay tight. Within a couple minutes it was trash. I am using a using a diamond wheel to remove thin set. Ok I chalked that up to maybe applying to much pressure. So I went and got another universal dust shroud another $60. I looked for every way to insure it was secure but the pipe clamp they use to secure Just would not tighten all the way down. I would use for a couple minutes or less and have to try and secure. Finally it as well was not useable, I did not get 2 room done and have 5 more. I am not going to say this is junk because it does keep the dust down. However I would not recommend to be used for removing thin set. I also would think this would be a remarkable tool if it were made of cast or a durable material with a proven attachment for specific grinders.

Melted and bound my wheel on the first use

Cheap plastic combined with my DeWalt DCG413 and diamond cup wheel melted this piece of junk on the first use. Had to throw it away.

Works great on Metabo grinder

This is exactly what I needed. I had to grind a hearth down to flush with the subfloor, and I didn't want to create a disaster of dust. Although I needed to remove the guard locking lever from my 18v Metabo LTX 150 (Metabo, not Metabo HPT), the fittings locked into the head slot perfectly, and the housing stayed secure through the whole time using it. The dust collection worked great with my cheapo shop vac. I fitted a Makita 4.5" cement grinder with it, and followed the instructions to get the brush ends about 1/8" from the face of the grinding wheel. I needed to unclip the clear part edge thing so I could grind the cement right up to the brickwork. I'm glad the housing had that. Overall, I'm super happy with it. Metabo doesn't seem to offer an OEM part like this for the angle grinder I have, so I guess I'll stick with this. It was a bit of a pain removing the guard lock lever then trying to figure out how the spring goes back, but since I'm grinding cement only rarely, it's not a deal breaker for me.
