Can I use this bulb in a normal table lamp, with a non-enclosed fixture, non-dimmer, with a 3 way knob, plugged into an automatic digital timer?

Asked by BC December 5, 2019

Answer

This application will definitely work. Just note that this is not a three way bulb, so the bulb will not step up or down in light output.

Can I use these bulbs in a garage door opener?

I’m not so sure all of these other answers encompass some of the issues with LED bulbs in Garage door openers. The circuitry on many LED bulbs emits a certain type of radio interference that affects the signals used by the remote control in the garage door opener. This is a REAL issue, and this happened to me with another bulb brand. The only way that you will truly know, will be to try them out and if they don’t work, return them. That would be my advice, as “unhelpful” as it may seem.

We found these lights to be great for areas were bright, white, almost like daylight light is needed in a specific part of the house. These are not, to our opinion, for just anywhere in the house. For example they were excellent for our needs in the kitchen / cooking area and not in the dining room. Phillips has been a trusted brand for many years and this product was exactly as described. The photo below tries to show how bright the lights are in the bowl of the light fixture, however, the camera compensates for the overexposure of the lights and by therefore loses its true brilliance.

Philips doesn't honor warranty claim on failed LED bulbs. Faulty bulbs and poor customer support. I purchased a number of these bulbs last year to use in light fixtures in my home where I needed more light than a 60w equivalent would provide. Two of the bulbs have stopped working, only flickering to life every once in a while. I contacted Philips via the warranty claim form as they bulbs have a three year warranty and received a prompt reply indicating that my scanned receipt did not go through and asking me to resend it, along with a photo of the bulbs and asking a few questions. I sent that all back within an hour by reply email as requested and that was now two weeks ago without any further contact from Philips. I have contacted them twice since then to ascertain the status, but have received no response. Of all the LED bulbs I have purchased in the past several years (Sylvania, Philips, Feit, GE, Utilitech, Great Value and EcoSmart), the Philips are the only ones to have failed so far and their warranty support is terrible. I will avoid Philips products from now on.

Recently replaced 168 bulbs in our church Sanctuary with the 40w Philips LED daylight bulbs and the difference was literally night and day we are very satisfied with our product. The only issue we had is one of the bulbs didn't burn but I trust the local store will address this issue even though I placed the order online.

I purchased 10 of these on 09/13/16. I have had 3 fail so far in less that 2 years. 2 were in the hallway and one came from a bathroom vanity. The "ceramic" base seems to discolor and crack. Picture included. So much for the 10,000 hr life expectancy. I do like the light emitted from these bulbs plus because of the low energy use there is a low heat output. If you are thinking of putting these in a hard to access location like a light fixture in a cathedral ceiling. I would look for something else.

I live in Florida and we have frogs. Many, many frogs. And did I mention bugs! OMG! We couldn't even walk out our front door without running. Well, the frogs loved the bugs and the bugs loved the light, so the frogs hung out around the door light. ICK!! I always thought one was going to jump on me. I read about using Daylight LED bulbs to keep bugs away. Insects cannot see a certain spectrum. Well Lo & Behold, no more bugs and no more frogs. I preach the truth. I will be using these on all my outdoor lights. I love the bright, clear, white light they emit. It does look like it's daylight when glancing through the curtains.

They are bright but are not daylight, more like a warm white, disappointing. Compared them to cheap daylight LED's and these are yellow where the other one is an actual white light with bluish tint. On the pic below, the bulb on the left are these 100W Philips Daylight LED and the bulb on the left is a cheap no name 40W Daylight. May not seem light a big difference on the pic, but in person it is.

These bulbs are not dimmable. They are soft warm yellowey white (like on old incandescent) bright and spread a broad light footprint with a lower energy consumption than their nearest competitor per HD stock. I installed 2 in outdoor scance fixtures and they haven't had any problems in the month I've owned them but will be replacing them with dimmable bulbs.
