We're missing the point here. If, and only if, "your own" charger is a Ryobi (and Ryobit seems to have a lock on 18V cordless tools) then use that one. If you have not Ryobi charger, your search has led you to the wrong tool. Search instead for Ryobi Cordless tree saw KIT. You want the one with battery and charge not the bare tool. After that you can add other Ryobi cordless tools in bare form for less than their corresponding kits. See? Don't purchase battery and charger independently of a tool unless you simply want pay extra.

can I use a longer lasting battery for my ryobi one + pole saw and which battery can I use?

You can get batteries for these one plus units off brand on E-Bay for some good prices. Work good for the price, but some are Ni-Mh ( Nickel-Metal Hydride) These will not charge on a Lithium Charger, but will on a Dual Chemistry ONE + charger, like a P117, that I have used. P118B would not work (Like the one that comes with The saw.

Can I get this tool without the battery and charger and thereby reducing the cost?

Today is Sunday 8/23/2020. And they have it available as tool only without the battery and charger and you save $20. I'm sitting here trying to figure out if that's a good deal because I wouldn't mind having an extra battery. Finally, I'm presuming that if I go out on a "limb" and buy this and I do not like it that I can return it within something like 30 days.

Does the bar and chain oil leak when saw is not in use?

Asked by Yeggie July 6, 2016

it makes a huge mess!! after reading back through the, manual they tell you to drain the oil tank before putting away, so this is a known problem, but no word in the advertising. I surely would not have bought something like this had I known. I am currently trying to get through to the repair service, but the terrible on hold music goes on for a half hour, then they give a message no service reps available and hung up. I'll try again tomorrow. Between that and a defective battery, which they are replacing, but the small reserve power, (1.3 amp ???) is ridiculous on a tool that works hard and draws down the power so fast. just a ploy to get you to buy a larger battery. I am really disappointed in Home Depot for representing this junk! Keep your eyes open on this one!!

*This* product listing clearly states in its title "Battery and Charger Not Included". If you need a battery, go to the listing that says charger and battery are included.

I would say no! I bought this product back in June, which came with the battery and charger, but so far, I can only cut maybe three 3" limbs per charge. Although, it does charge pretty quickly, I would not have bought this product if I had known that is all I could cut per charge.

Hi, Steffie- Thanks for the question. With the extension pole, it's 9.5 feet long for a reach of about 12 feet. With the pole removed, it's 6.5 ft. long with a reach of about 9 feet. We hope this helps!

Does the pole saw come with a supply of oil or should I purchase that separately?

It does NOT come with bar lube, and absolutely is required. you will need to add that to your order.

PRO: good value at the price i got it for, but probably only for the homeowner that doesn't use this too frequently ($68) battery lasts quite a while (3Ah) has the average set of features CON: lemon/faulty battery connection flexing while using extension pole adding/removing poles takes some time Not sure if I received a lemon or a faulty piece that somehow got past Quality. The battery (Lithium+ HP 18v 3Ah) does not fully seat in the tool. The tool seems to be missing a notch that allows the battery to slide in all the way, meaning that the battery will not clamp into the tool. See images for details. Also included is a separate tool that does have the mentioned notch. I also checked against my other Ryobi tools, which also had notches. Will be checking out customer service/warranty about this. Got it on sale and would consider it an excellent value for the homeowner that needs a pole saw but doesn't use this it too frequently. Works well and as expected, when the battery doesn't slide out. Surprisingly strong for a 18v. Battery lasts a long time while using this. Used to prune 1"-3" diameter Asian pear trees, mostly averaging at 2". Has the normal amount of features and is easy enough to use. Pole extensions take a minute or two to assemble or disassemble, so if you have to switch frequently, know that will take some time. When using the extension, the pole saw did seem to flex. Not sure if it was designed to do so, but probably not. Temporarily stored it laying on the floor with a little bit of oil and noticed a day later that it did leak some. Like other posts say, could empty it out between uses.

Bent the chain bar after a few hours of light use

The "bar" the chain goes around is possibly bent after a few hours of light-moderate use. The factory chain tension appeared appropriate, I did not change chain tension. I did not drop the tool nor apply much force to it. The motor is quite strong this could have occurred when a twig became lodged in the chain where it entered the housing. Twigs getting stuck in the chain occurred occasionally. Prior to the part failure I had no other complaints about the tool I thought it was awesome worked great, easy to use. Strong motor.

This pole saw is very easy and fun to use. It is moderate in weight and the strap makes it easier to stabilize while its extended. It's also fairly quiet for the job at hand. The connections to extend it are easy to set up as well. I've had this saw for over two years and it's very versatile to use. I have done many small limb trimming jobs with this saw without much problem. The one complaint that I have is that it goes through bar oil really quickly. It also leaks bar oil while it's in storage even when to cap is on tight. I always have to make sure that this saw is sitting upright so that it doesn't leak bar oil everywhere. It does meet my expectations. Please hit the thumbs up if this was helpful.

So far I'm Happy With it

I was hesitant to buy this pole saw as my experience with some other Roybi power tools (screw gun and impact drill) is they have a tendency to overheat and burn up if used hard. However, so far this one appears to do well. I'm impressed with how easily it cuts through 6" round hardwood. The battery lasts and it doesn't get hot. Some areas where there could be improvements: 1) The rod worries me a bit. At 9', when you cut trough a limb it's impossible not to have some momentum. I'm concerned the pole might break and I'm having to be very careful to control the downward motion. 2) The tool for tightening the chain does not have a holder built into the saw. The chain (especially when new) will get lose. Then you have to stop, trudge off to get the wrench. It's small and light, why not add a place to secure it so it's always available. 3) The oil reservoir has a small opaque viewer, not always easy to see if theirs oil. So check it often. 4) Would be great if you could assemble the battery head directly to the blade instead of having 6' of pole in-between. That way once you drop a limp you could easily use it like a small chainsaw to section. Overall, I'm impressed. It made short work of a very large maple with big branches hanging over my roof. I half believe if the blade were 14" I could cut down the entire tree.

Assembly was easy and operation was simple for this middle aged not so handyman The saw was perfect for my 20 over grown arbivitae that had reached 12 feet in height and trimming them down to 7 feet didn't require the extension pole. Battery life lasted an hour of continuous use which was fine given the weight of the unit which makes for a bit of a workout. Battery recharge is very quick and takes about 30-40 minutes. Perfect tool for occasional homeowner maintenance jobs. Price was great compared to job quotes by landscapers I saved quite a lot of money.

My pole saw stopped working. I did trouble shooting by myself. After I disassembled the pole saw, I found the root cause. Red wire in the top pole assembly is disconnected. This red wire was reconditioned before(I didn’t do it. I bought it brand new from homedepot.)
