this paint is a nice dark gray it goes on relatively thick and even. It dries fast and is as it says sand able. I have used dozens of cans of this paint for a WW2 German vehicle I am working on and is a good match for a nice flat panzer gray. But it would work for a primer coat for any darker color especially in the blue spectrum. It comes in several other colors If you desire any other color spectrum. I highly recommend it.

the nozzle is high pressure and streams and shoots out heavy, lumpy , and runs no matter how you follow the instructions. Very poor design...Try krylon paint, its nice and thin the way it fans out.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Tom! Certainly, it is important to thoroughly shake the can of Rust-Oleum Automotive Sandable Primer prior to use, and occasionally during use as well. The can should be shaken for no less than one minute after the mixing ball in the can begins to rattle. This ensures that the product is mixed well, and prevents larger particles from being sprayed through the nozzle. You also want to make sure the finger that presses down on the nozzle stays clean and free of any paint. It is important to have your index finger centered on the nozzle itself. If your finger is too forward it can cause some blocking of the spray mist as it comes out of the can, which can cause sputtering or larger drops to be sprayed on the surface. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Worked very well
While restoring an old milk can, I found that I had many small imperfections. I used bondo to complete my restoration and was very pleased with the results.

It wasn’t grey, it was black. Can still use it but not the way I wanted to. Better luck next time I guess.

This is not what we expect to hear, Paul! For the best results, we recommend ensuring your finger is placed on the center top of the nozzle and fully pressed down. If the nozzle is not fully sitting on the can, please give us a call at 866-585-8430 for further assistance.
