Wide tongue and grooves makes for easy installation
When I was given the opportunity to install an engineered hardwood floor I was initially intimidated. I had never installed flooring before but after watching many YouTube videos I told myself, you can do this! After I botched cutting a few angled corners I quickly got the hang of it. I enjoyed it so much and it was so easy that I installed a luxury vinyl plank floor soon afterwards in a bedroom. Cue in this Selkirk engineered wood floor and once again I thought, can I do this? This flooring has a plywood bottom. The first two installations didn’t. I ordered a new 10 inch sliding miter saw and waited for for both the flooring and saw to arrive. In the meantime I watched installation videos. I was pleasantly surprised at how easily these planks fit together and how lightweight each plank is, even lighter than LVP! Wide tongue and grooves so no struggling or repeated repositioning to make them join. I’m allergic to a lot of chemicals so I knew I couldn’t glue down to floor and since I’m installing on concrete, I knew nailing or stapling isn’t an option. I watched more videos and decided to float the floor using tongue and groove glue. Basically I’m glueing the planks to each other instead of to the floor. Very simple using a glubot bottle. Since I have underlayment left over from my second installation I decided to use it. This flooring is being installed in a downstairs bedroom that’s a guest room at this time so it does not have high foot traffic. It’s your choice to use underlayment or not with this flooring but I don’t want to walk on a cold floor or worry about moisture that may come from the concrete so I’m using it. Love how easily these planks fit together and they are very long planks, 72 inches long! For a wall measuring 12ft, two planks will cover that distance. You’ll want to stagger the seams so you’ll have to do more cutting in smaller rooms, which takes seconds using a sliding miter saw. You can also use a table saw or jigsaw. These planks are perfect for larger or longer rooms. You’ll finish in no time if there are no angled corners. I don’t know how floating this floor will hold up over time but using the required 1/2 inch spacing I think it will hold up well. I use the L shaped spacers that sit on top of and between the planks and wall. The floor does not move at all during installation and these spacers are available at Home Depot. I also use a rubber mallet, brass hammer, 12 inch pull bar, and a rubber L tapping block to install. With some planks all it took was hand power and they fit together perfectly. I wipe away any extra seam glue as I go along. I also undercut door jambs at doorways. Some important points from the instructions include: 50 year residential finish warranty, 10 year commercial. Do not install in bathrooms with showers or tubs. Subfloor should be level and free of defects. Install flooring screws into floor joists prior to floor install to minimize squeaks. Use water free adhesive. Do not use vinegar to clean flooring. Wipe spills immediately. Use felt protectors under furniture. Don’t spend a ton of money to hire a flooring installer. This flooring is DIY; like fitting the pieces of a puzzle together. Actually it’s easier than that! A breeze to install, looks fantastic and I know will last for years to come. Highly recommend.

          Beautiful Engineered Hardwood (A+)
I needed to replace our old carpet in our "bonus room" above our garage. We use this as a guest bedroom and this "engineered hardwood" flooring was indeed a perfect choice. The "Native Flora" has an attractive light-gray color, with a nice degree of visual appeal including variation in grain, light/dark sections, knots, and other natural Maple wood structures. I like the 7.5" width, which would be unlikely to achieve with solid wood flooring, but you still get the look and feel of hardwood flooring with the 4 mm maple veneer. Each box weighs about 50 pounds and the load was delivered quickly after the order. Product is easy to clean, with no visible gaps or grooves. 50 year residential warranty seems consistent with product first impressions - seems built to last! Love it!
