We have this burst pipe repair kit on hand in case of winter frozen pipe emergencies. The kit comes with proper directions to install in case of an emergency, which always seems to happen after normal business hours. The kit comes with everything needed for the repair, except for the tools, and does not require special cements or soldering for copper pipes. It is suitable for drinking water and is lead free. A pipe cutter is needed for installation for either copper or CPVC pipes. This is a well thought out kit which also includes the deburring tool.

I'm a DIY'er. Besides my home I also own investment properties so I'm always repairing or improving something. I consider myself competent when it comes to plumbing issues although I would never consider myself a "plumber." The big jobs I leave to the pros. Some of the plumbing jobs I encounter involve replacing burst pipes and repairing leaking fittings. What I've always hated about sweating pipe is having to drain down the system and wait, and wait for the repair to be dry enough to solder. A few years ago I discovered SharkBite products. The ads seemed too good to be true but I decided to give them a try. I was, and still am, amazed at how well these fittings work. Cut and deburr the pipe, (copper or PEX) clean the ends and push on the fitting. Wet or dry I've never had a leak or a defective fitting. Another big advantage is that they are removable and reusable. This kit includes a removal tool. The fittings come with a plastic insert for use with PEX pipe. Although they can be left in place when working with copper they are not necessary and I remove them with a pair of needle-nose pliers. This kit includes everything you'll need, except a pipe cutter, to repair a 1/2 inch burst pipe as long as the split is under 12 inches. If the damage is over a foot long simply get a longer PEX or copper pipe. These are remarkable products and once you use them you'll never go back to sweating pipes.

My house has copper water pipes. My outdoor faucets are not frost-proof and I don't always remember to put freeze covers on them since freezing temperatures are unusual here, so I thought it would be a good idea to get this repair kit in case of problems. I have a number of SharkBite fittings already, including on my water heater and my water main, so I have confidence in them. In addition to the two 1/2" Sharkbite couplings and 12" of good quality "Made in the USA" PEX pipe, you get the proper tools to install and remove the couplings, although you'll have to supply your own pipe cutter. Buying this kit saves about 50% over the cost of the individual components. The instructions say to push the couplings fully onto your pipes after cutting out the damaged section, and insert the PEX into one of the couplings, then cut the PEX to length and push it into the second coupling. It seems like I'll need 1/2" to 1" of play in my copper pipes to be able to push the second coupling on.

A fast easy fix for a simple leak. If you can’t get your plumber right away, your tired of towels and buckets.....the SharkAid is the way to go. Durability is something that will take time to review. So far we are good!
